"I- i just wanted to play in the playground," the kid said, voice shaking trying to control the tears.

"Oh that sucks,"

"And im too small to make them back off. Why am i too small? i hate myself,"

"You are still growing," itBroke tadashi's heart. He knows oh too well what he feels, it was his own feelings, small tiny and easy to bully with no friends.

"You are still growing and one day you will be big and strong and have friends!!"

"I don't think so,"

"Just you wait, it gets better i promise,"He doesn't think he can tell him how it gets better or his future, but he also knows he can give that kid a hug. A much needed tight hug to his younger self, a hug he also needed when he was young.

Then he woke up. He couldn't argue it was a dream, but it also felt too realBut even if he didn't actually hug his younger self, he manged to hug his inner child.

He opens his eyes, stars at the ceiling with teary eyes.

"Shit, are you ok babe?!" Kei asks, he always wakes up before him.

For those of you watching the death spiral of Twitter in real time THIS IS WHY us fandom olds always defend AO3 and it’s donation drives.

Twitter is an incalculable loss for artistic expression, news, and so many other facets I can’t even begin to count.

This sort of loss of information is impossible with AO3 and how it’s set-up. Obviously an AO3 style model isn’t sustainable for every site bc the moment images get involved the server costs skyrocket exponentially, but now more than ever the theory applies.

AO3 is an archive of our own, donators have direct say via vote about what happens to the site, you help shape it.

As long as AO3 has donation drives and doesn’t rely on advertisers it will remain around as a foremost place of art and freedom of expression. What happened to Twitter can’t happen to AO3 as it currently exists. And that is why we fight tooth and nail to protect AO3 from corporate interests and out of touch billionaires like Musk.

I hate that Twitter is dying and that anyone has to experience it, but please learn from this experience!

Ao3 is actually massively culturally important and very very good at being what it is. I’m so serious when I say that ao3 needs to be protected as the anti censorship, by fans for fans, nonprofit, volunteer run, expertly designed archival site that it is. You don’t have to read or like fanfiction to understand that on principle, ao3 is a site that should be defended.

"I'm not asking you to make any stupid decisions, Tadashi. I'm just- I'm just telling you," Kei says. He swallows, licking dry lips, and Tadashi looks at him with a mix of- of disgust, of horror. "I just needed to get it off my chest. I'm happy for you and Yachi, I really am."

It's a lie, and they both know it.

"Tsukishima Kei, you don't just confess to someone the day before they're supposed to get married and expect things to go on as planned. Are you fucking stupid?"

"I-"

"God. You're so- so infuriating. You always have to get the last word in, don't you?"

"Yamaguchi, I-"

"All these years and you still won't say my first name? You just confessed your love for me, and you won't call me Tadashi?"

Tadashi's words are sharp. Deservedly so. Even still- he feels sick to his stomach trying to process them all. This is going...worse than Kei anticipated. He'd expected denial, some annoyance and doubt, not- not anger.

"Why did you wait until I moved on? Why did you have to wait until it's literally too late? I don't- I used to love you, Kei, but I don't now. I can't." Tadashi chokes out, and oh no he's starting to cry. He's always been an ugly crier. Kei hates that he still thinks he's attractive even when he's crying.

Kei swallows again. Why did his throat feel so thick? It's getting hard to suck in any breath. "Why'd you stop? I- I was almost there, almost ready, when you started dating Yachi."

"Because I was tired of waiting, Kei! Are you-" Tadashi makes a strangled noise in the back of his throat, running his hands over his face and into his hair, mussing it up more. He'd started going for the purposefully-messy look after highschool, when he'd realized that if he can't fix his horrible cowlicks he could at least learn to work around them. "Kei, I loved you. I loved you so, so much but you hurt me. That night, Shouyou's first match with the Jackals, when we- we went and got drunk, and you were hanging all over me and then the next day you acted like it never happened...I- You told me how much you wanted to kiss me, and I told you to ask again when you were sober. You never did. And maybe it's my fault for believing you'd remember, but it fucking hurt. So I decided, fuck it, I'm not going to let myself get worked up over it and I fucking got over you. And now you're here. Confessing to me. The day before my fucking wedding."

"I'm sorry, Tadashi."

Upon hearing the crack in Kei's voice, seeing the tears in his eyes, Tadashi deflates and melts into his seat, scrubbing at his eyes. "Sorry doesn't give us back time, Kei."

"I know. I- I wish it did, though. Does that make me selfish?"

Tadashi snorts. "Obviously. But I'm not much better. I wish we had that time back too."
