The urge to draw western frobin
Ahhh, look at me! I finally decided to pull the trigger and actually post a fanfic for once!! Just a bit of background for this story: This is a Whitebeard pirates x reader story. UNLESS ASKED OTHERWISE, most things in here will remain platonic/friendly (and a bit fluffy). I also do plan to write chapters giving each Commander their own time to shine with the reader. (I know everyone's here for Marco, Izo, Thatch, and Ace, but come one! Rakuyo, Atmos, Namur, Speed Jill, Vista, and literally the rest of the sixteen commanders exist as well. Why only write for a fourth of them when they all deserve a chance?! (Yes, I'm THAT big of a dork to be able to name all of them. I know I didn't include a lot of the others on here, but trust me. I can XD) Anyways, this is considered chapter 0. Since this is only the prologue and the introduction to what exactly the reader's life is like, this isn't the official first chapter of interaction. (That's actually Chapter 1!) I'll also be sure to add a few additional triggers with the chapters as the story progresses, but something to keep in mind with the story as a whole: THERE ARE UNDERLYING THEMES OF DEPRESSION. It's subtle in some spots, but laid on thick in others depending on the story progression. Ok, I'll leave now. Enjoy! _______________________ Word count: 1375 _______________________
Life is a fickle thing, is it not? All at the same time, the day could fly by for one person while it dragged on for another. A couple could be experiencing the happiest moments of their lives, another their last. I guess in that regard, it was better to say that time was a fickle manner, but life itself had a funny way of ruling over those decisions. And unfortunately for you, time nor life has ever worked out in your favor. Not in a long while.
Every morning, it was the same rinse-and-repeat cycle that had once been something you believed would lead to happiness. It had been that way for ten years now. Get up, make the long trip to the island’s high end part of town- which was on the opposite side of where you lived- open the jewelry shop for the day, work your shift and cover for the boss, close up at the end of the night, go home, find whatever was the easiest and low maintenance in the way of cooking, go to bed, and wake up the next day to do it all over again. Of course, the last few years hadn’t always been so…lacking. No no no, the ‘oh-so’ happy residents of the town had made sure of that. On days where you had travelers visit the shop, there was always small talk sharing in their adventures or their life that had led them to that very moment, and in even rarer occasions, there was always a bone thrown your way and they’d be generous enough to give you a tip for your work.
Of course, that was one nice customer to every 50 or so? And that was taking what kindness you were given far and few in between and paying it up to flatter the residents of the island. And that was saying a lot since all they gave you was their usual snappy remarks or some new form of taking their anger out on you. A lot of the customers had gotten angry so often that your boss- in the one or two times he even bothered to roll out of bed- had told you that safety glasses were now a must while working ALL the time rather than when you did the work the old lapidarist had slacked on before leaving. And to think that this is what fate initially had you set out to sea for. Life outside of the mundane island was, well, avoiding the island itself. No pirates ever stopped there, and Marines were the same way. Everyone avoided the island like the black plague.
The only reason you had ever dared to come to the island yourself was both for the lack of its history and people, and the fact that a job opportunity had fallen into your lap. At the time, it seemed like a dream come true, yet now it felt more like it was a personalized nightmare to make you hate even the smallest joys of life. Yet here you were, still playing the sucker who kept on dreaming that it would get better. And to an extent…you still hoped that it would, that one day everything would work out.
See, life was a fickle thing. The whole reason you had ever been brought to the island in the first place was your line of research. A gemologist, that, of all things, was what you had settled on in life. Not that it was a bad thing! Because it really wasn’t. It was just…odd. In comparison to a world that piracy had existed in, it was just odd that you’d settled on studying jewels, stones, and gems rather than hoarding them. But, it kept your nose out of everyone’s business and the eyes of the government, so you were happy enough with it. And to you, upon your initial arrival to the island, believed that the smiles everyone wore had been a show of the happiness that threatened to overwhelm its visitors. Yet it took all of but a few hours to find just how wrong that was. Threatening to rip someone’s throat out and shove it up where the son doesn’t shine just for bumping into them wasn’t exactly the most friendly thing in the world. And saying it with a smile as well, it was enough to get to anyone.
If the bitter nature of the people was bad enough, they were all lazy as well. Going to the grocery store just for a night’s worth of groceries took longer than the walk home, even when you were the only person in the store. Trying to see a doctor meant that you’d be waiting a few months out to even get any sort of chance to SCHEDULE the appointment. It was a miracle how no one had ever died on the island. And your boss was no better. The man had only ever been at the shop two days out of the ten years you had worked there: the day you were hired, and another day where you had to go home early after getting a ring thrown at you and the bezel had sliced a little too close to your eye. It hadn’t hit the inside of your eye, nor had it scarred- from what you could tell, anyways. You were lucky to even still have it functioning at this point.
It was only a couple of years after you had started that the old lapidarist had suddenly just stopped showing up to work. Truthfully, you didn’t blame them, despite the dread that filled you anytime you dared to question their disappearance. The only reason you stayed was because of the free rent and the time you got to do what you loved…ok, it wasn’t free rent, but no one had come to collect the payments from you, so it was free housing. At least the laziness of the life there had been good for something. But…was it worth it? That was the question you had always come back to every chance you had been alone during the day. What good was your work if the people were never happy? What good was it when the jeweler felt as though it were going to financially collapse?
The old displays had been sold by the boss for a quick buck to find a way to meet ends in order to make the shop’s monthly bills, so none of the work you made ever got proper recognition. Your paychecks had gotten farther and fewer in between until you almost had nothing left. You weren’t sure if it was just a case that the boss was taking what he owed you to pay for the shop or if he was simply not bothering to even pay you anymore. The people were never happy, your house was always in shambles, but you never had the money to ever fix it. To say the least, you hated it. You hated everything about the island, about your home, about your job. Yes, job. It had gotten bad enough to a point that you’d have rather numbed your mind for hours on end sitting behind a desk to write- much like the person that took heavens only knows how long to write this- rather than continue your personal studies for the career you once wanted.
Sometimes, the idea crossed your mind that maybe settling down wasn’t for you? I mean, you had been happier when you were travelling from place to place to understand the type of jewelry that was popular on each island, why, and how valuable it was. Truth be known, when you looked at the point your life was at, a deeper part of you ached. It felt like something had curled up on itself every time you noted that you did what most people had spent a lifetime doing. You managed to settle down earlier on in life before you got too old and it got to be too late. But what did it matter what you thought? For as long as you stayed on the island, you were at the mercy of the people and whatever they decided to throw at-
‘Snap. Snap. Snap.’
You guys are quickly going to know me as the crazy lady that simps for Heat and Thatch because, well....they're all I pretty much draw alongside my ocs, lol. But, that's ok. If we're going to have a fan base for these two, I'll be willing to single handedly supply fan art for them, lol. Anyways, continuing up yesterday's remarks of spamming art out, this was actually a piece I did last year for Christmas. I honestly do like how the colors turned out on this one. And I didn't really get to explain it in a whole lot of context when I posted it, so I will here: In a lot of the fanart that I post on Lee (my sweet bean that's in this post) most of the time she'll be drawing really upset/concerned or pretty much sleeping. In her info that I have posted up on Wattpad, I do explain it a bit, but pretty much she had nightmares about how she parted from her last crew (don't want to spoil what happens if you'd like to go read up on her-) and usually when she's around Heat, she pretty much is comfortable and feels safe enough to relax, hence the reason she usually is sleeping when he's near. Obviously it's not all the time, but it is a fair bit of the time. Also, I do have to say this as well: Lee is basically mute. She does talk maybe once or twice every now and then, but beyond that, she writes to communicate. Unlike Corazon, her reasoning is actually a medical condition that does impair her vocal cords. I will be putting out more art of these two because (HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN'S HAIR AND THE WAY I USUALLY DOODLE HIM?! IT'S SO FUN- Plus, Lee is my first and favorite oc, and I will never stop drawing her <3)
THIS- :0
Still the hottest couple on the Sunny (Moony??)
So, I actually have two separate projects that I'd like to do collabs for. Firstly, I'd like to make a crew with all ocs! I have the details posted on Instagram (or at least did) so if you're interested in this, don't be afraid to comment! As of currently, no one has actually joined the collab, so there is definitely room left to join. The only rules I can remember off the top of my head is 1. You unfortunately cannot use a current/ existing oc. Since this is an all oc crew, everyone that joins the collab will be working on their ocs and their lore/ how they mingle and come to know one another. (In other words, it wouldn't be fair to your current existing ocs to actually have to change their lore to fit the crew's, if that makes sense-) and 2. There can only be on oc per person. Going further into depth on this, a lot of the oc lore that'll be exchanged will actually be done via discord. I'll actually create a server for everyone that joins to go discuss details and such, and then the info can be shared publicly from there. I still don't know if this collab would remain restricted to just art, or if it could also swing in the direction of writing as well. Either way, this is one of the two projects! __________ The second project that I'd like to do an open collab for is a Zine. And currently, I am on the fence about who I'd like to make the Zine over. I'm Stuck between Thatch, Rosinante, Heat, or Fukaboshi. Why these four specifically? I personally like these characters, and the amount of content there is on them is absolutely DISGUSTING. There definitely should be more!! I am going to for sure do a Zine, but I want to know who would like to have a hand in it, and for which character (Because if I can actually find enough fans for each character, then I can actually make a zine for all of them, lol.)
Here's part two for the concept designs! Up next we have Kimchi! (Or seagull boy as most of the crew nicknamed him.) You would think with a group of adults, at least one of them would be the navigator? But actually, no. This little rascal is the crew's navigator. While most people have to use a log pose, surprisingly Kimchi has a strong intuition and can usually lead the crew where they need to be without using a compass or map. None of the crew ever could figure out how he was able to navigate the sea, but according to his own account, he had been on the sea for three years alone before they found him. And speaking of finding, that's actually a funny story. At the time that they found him, Kimchi was on a makeshift raft in the middle of the ocean. The only reason they had ever taken him aboard was due to the fact that he was trying to catch a seagull to eat- hence the nickname 'seagull boy'. At the time that they found him, Kimchi was 11. This boy is an absolute riot to be around. He takes his role as a pirate 'very' seriously and will refuse to spill the beans about anything...unless, you know, you bribe him with a snickerdoodle or cinnamon roll. (or any cinnamon sweets for that matter-) Most of the time, just to mess with Woton or Ahiru and Shiro, Kimchi will usually take their belongings and hide them under his 'wizard hat' just to cause trouble at times...yes, the giant safety cone he has on is a wizard hat to him, do not try to reason with the boy, lol. The two little plush he has in the front pocket of his outfit are gifts from both Lee and Willow. While he may not say it, they do mean the world to him. (But he can't let people go thinking he enjoys something from two icky girls, now can he?)
*ahem*
The monotones- The book of love
Bear Ghost- The Mario cliche
Bear Ghost- Peas and Love
Dion and the Belmonts- Teenager in love
These are songs that 110% remind me of Thatch and would definitely be something he'd listen to.
(I also have other songs that remind me of other WB pirates if you guys would like them as well óvò)
(On another note, DO YOU PEEPS KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE WILL WOOD AND BEAR GHOST?!)
This is a fun little fact that I wanted to share with you peeps here because I don't think I ever really did before. Sooo, allow me to go into detail about it now. I think that a lot of people don't understand why I themed Bernice's outfit the way I did. (Granted, I only draw her in the striped and dotted turtleneck, but she does have other long sleeves she wears. I just forget to actually draw them and default to her turtleneck, lol) So, allow me to enlighten you peeps a bit here! Looking at Thatch and Bernice, Obviously there's a lot different about them. Bernice has a Devil fruit, usually dresses fairly warm, tends to keep her hair messier, but withing reason, and has her outfit themed more around a darker purple and black color palette. (With a few splashes of either white or yellow depending on the outfits.) Something I think a lot of people fail to realize is just how cold it would get sailing all the time. You can argue that 'it wouldn't be cold' or that 'most everyone would be used to colder wind coming off the sea', but you have to think as well that something like that wouldn't be the same case for everyone. Especially if you're on different ships. Depending on how fast the wind is moving would depend on how fast the ship moves. Sooo, Bernice wears what she does due to actual weather and temperature reasons. Thatch is obviously on the opposite end of the scale. He wears his outfit due to his work on Whitebeard's crew, doesn't have a devil fruit (Thank you, Blackbeard, for that -_- ), keeps his clothes fairly clean despite his work in the kitchen, and tends to make his hair nice. His outfit is usually themed around mostly white, but he does have some yellow in it. I'm sure you can already see where this is going, but let me geek out for a moment here. Obviously black and white are opposites on a grey scale. So you could see that much with their outfits, yeah? Now here's one better for you: yellow and purple are complementary colors on the color wheel. For those of you that aren't really art savvy, basically complementary colors are colors that sit opposite of one another on the color wheel. (Red and green are one, orange and blue are another.) Now knowing that, and knowing just how their outfits are described, do you see where I'm going with this? In short, Bernice and Thatch are an opposites attract pairing, but on a deeper level. And don't worry, for those of you that think I only themed it around the uniform Thatch wears, I did not. I'm actually going to be working on a few pieces in the near future where a lot of their outfits are themed around this idea :3
Hello again! Are you peeps (hopefully not) tired of me posting out art? Because I still have quite a bit of art that I need to upload to all of my platforms, and this is the next target for me, lol. Well, starting off what is going to probably be another day filled with art posts, we have this cute piece! I actually finished this one a couple of months ago after hitting 100 followers on Instagram. This originally was going to be a two part drawing challenge. But because of issues with IG, I no longer post on there. The premise of this was a DTIYS kind of thing, although it was going to cater more towards each person. Basically, the first part of the challenge was going to be draw a character with both a zodiac AND mbti type that would get along with your zodiac and mbti type (so kind of like a more accurate soulmate/best friends kind of thing) And because I call my followers 'peeps', the first part of the challenge for the 100 followers was supposed to be like this. You draw a character you'd get along with according to both, and where you'd be drawing yourself in the second half, you put a duck of some kind there. For obvious reasons, the second half of the challenge never came out, but to be honest, I really like how this one turned out. Especially, too, since Fishman Island is one of my favorite arcs (I dunno why so many people trach on it. It's really good. Plus, look at the bright colors used in the scenery, character design, everything! It's so sad that a lot of people hate on it ;v; )
Is this probably evil to post only a tidbit of this story here? Yes, yes it is. Do I have good reason for this?...Yes, actually. Long story short, I'm currently looking to find a way to leave my job and have a full time sustainable gig from home. My main goal/ my dream goal is to finish the children/tween chapter book I am working on so I can make the art for it. But, as to be expected, that's easier said than done when you're trying to balance a job still, as well as art and animation. Sooo, I'll be doing this to gain people's attention in order to get more people to support my Patreon. Don't worry, my art isn't stopping, but until I can find a way to leave my job and make more time to actually be able to pump out both my art and writing 24/7, this is the only way I know I can get peeps to head over and support it. Ah, but don't worry! if you aren't able to support my Patreon, then please do wait. It may take some time, but with the progression of this story, I will be uploading a full version of it to Itch.io as a downloadable version, it'll probably be something you have to pay for, but maybe like a dollar or so at most. (Yes, I want to be able to write and draw for a living, but I don't want to bankrupt people doing such, lol.) Anyways, the full version of this is going upon my Patreon, for now, here's just a small excerpt from Chapter 0: Please note: this is a randomly selected paragraph of the two that are a part of the chapter. While the chapter itself is not very long, it's only the precursor to the main book. ___________________ In a clearing where the trees parted had been a winding road that stretched on forever. The dim lights of the vehicle stood as a small flicker of a flame on the night drive in comparison to the light show that was taking place in the sky above. Between the low hum of the engine and the distant sound of the thunder, it became vacantly clear that the chirp of crickets had been snuffed out before their symphony could begin. Within the small cramped confines of the car that continued its trek down the road were two passengers. A man’s hunched form was over the wheel of the vehicle while his eyes squinted on the paved road ahead. The other passenger in the crosswise seat had been curled up. Their rhythmic breathing gave away the peaceful state of slumber that had befallen them. They couldn’t be blamed for it, the need for wanting sleep. Not many could find the beauty in nature. Well, I guess that wasn’t the case for them. The road ahead might’ve stretched on forever, but at the end of the journey would be their new home. Change was always a big deal. The thousands of ways people handled it came in all various sizes.
Ok, please bear with me here for a few seconds- I won't be long, I'm going to try and be quick about this. So long story short, I'll be taking the next few weeks to try and clean up my account here. I didn't actually think this would become such a jumbled mess of things, but apparently it has, lol. And there's surprisingly a lot of you that have come across my account to read Appraise Love, so I have decided to do something a bit different than what I do for all of my other platforms (except Youtube, that's the only other one I've done something like this for-) So basically, here's the plan: I take all of my head canons, stories, writing works, etc. and put them on a dedicated account for JUST writing things, and then leave this as my art/cosplay account. I'm actually going to poll this as well because I don't honestly know what's more convenient for you guys and the way you find my writing. So I guess vote for now and I'll get back here once this is over to finish cleaning up my account :3
Just a gremlin who was let loose with a pencil, lol(22; she/her; Gemini; INFJ 9w1)I'm very quiet with new people (And if I happen to not reply to a comment/pm, it's probably because I don't know what to say, lol)If you like what you see here, then you should check out my other social media platforms!https://linktr.ee/ducky531
