yapper reader x listener katsuki
notes: grumpy x sunshine also. basically just yap yap yap reader and bro stfu katsuki. based on some prompt i remember seeing forever ago. deviating from my usual 'reader and katsuki childhood friends go to ua tg' bc this is such a cute idea
the field is buzzing, students from different hero schools gathering in small groups and instructors calling out over the noise generating quite the racket. there’s tension, excitement, and a bit of rivalry in the air. class 1-a stands off to the side, eyes scanning the new arrivals. bakugo stands isolated from the group with his arms crossed, mouth already in a deep scowl.
he hates group exercises. hates surprise training simulations. hates-
“katsuki!!”
and then it happens.
a blur comes flying in from the other side of the field. he hears it before he sees it, and by the time he turns his head, it’s too late. you launch yourself at him from behind, tackling him in a full-body hug that actually makes him take a step forward. his body tenses immediately, hands twitching instinctively like he might throw you off-
but he doesn’t. he would never.
“kats! kats!” you giggle, climbing halfway up his back like he’s your personal jungle gym. you hook your chin over his shoulder, big goofy grin stretching across your face as you hug him tight. “hi!!”
there’s a long pause. bakugo doesn’t move. doesn’t shout. doesn’t blow anything up. the whole world stills in suspense.
eventually, he sighs, a hint of a not-angry expression present on his face. "hi."
“uh… are we… seeing this?” kirishima says under his breath, eyes wide.
“kats, i swear, it feels like it’s been forever since i’ve seen you! i mean, seriously, how is it that we’re both doing this hero thing and still barely getting any time to hang out? it’s like the universe just hates us or something. i’ve been stuck in this crazy hellfire intensity training like all week, and it’s not even the fun kind, it’s just endless drills and lectures and like ugh ohmygod, i’m so over it. anyway, i missed you kats!! how are you? healthy? well? making friends? wait, who am i kidding. youre definitely healthy because youre like a health-conscious old man, and definitely no friends."
you’re talking so fast he doesn’t have time to respond to anything. he just stares down at you, not saying a word or moving an inch.
eventually, he reaches out, drops a heavy hand onto your head, and mutters, “shut up.”
you beam like he just handed you flowers. “there he is,” you giggle, grabbing his arm and hugging it to your chest. “so grumpy. so cute. i miiiissed you!”
he grumbles something pissy under his breath, but makes no move to pull away.
aizawa’s voice cuts through the air. “pair off.”
despite you already hanging on him, bakugo grabs you immediately. “we’re teaming up.”
“wait, what?” mina says from behind him. “you’re not gonna work with us?”
“we’re teaming up,” he snaps again, louder this time, like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.
“but you always-”
“shut up. all of you. shut. the fuck. up.”
you’re already bouncing beside him, eyes bright. “oh my god, kats, i have so many ideas. okay, okay—what if you blow a hole in the wall and you know how i texted you last week about that new feature on my costume? i could use that to- wait! or we could climb over the roof and-”
“you talk too much,” he mutters, dragging you along gently despite his annoyed expression.
“you love it,” you sing, completely unbothered.
he doesn’t answer.
but the tiniest corner of his mouth tugs up.

You.
Sitting in your room, sitting against a wall. Because well what else are you supposed to do while you’re crying your eyes out?
No one else was awake (Atleast that you knew of.), so you go ahead and cry without many worries.
But little did you know that someone was listening. But not completely sure on what to do, or if he should even help you.
. . .
Minutes feel like hours as you continue to cry in what you thought was a private time. Until a knock comes.
Just once, and only once.
. . .
Bakugo. He was Katsuki fucking Bakugo, what was he doing outside his classmates dorm room at, what? 2:00am?
Well he didn’t exactly know either. All he knew is that he heard crying, and ignored it at first.
Until he heard whose room it was coming from.
. . .
You get up slowly and hesitantly, unsure of who it would be outside your door at this time. Wiping away any tears you had and taking a breath.
Thoughts running through your head, “Was I too loud?”, “Who could it be?”, “Do I look okay?”, “God I hope they can’t tell I was crying..”.
And with those thoughts circulating you walk to the door, and open it just enough to where you can see who it was.
. . .
At first, you thought your mind was playing tricks on you as you stare up at Bakugo with a bewildered expression. Him back at you with a scowl. Neither breaking eye contact.
One moment passes
Then another.
Before Bakugo breaks the silence by speaking in a low tone.
. . .
“Y/n. Let me come in.”
You look up at him for another moment then nod slowly and step out of the way. Still not fully understanding what he wanted, but not in the mood to argue.
Little did you know, that he was staring at you, not of anger or anything else. But he was seeing the puffy eyes you had, slight tear still on your cheek. The small pout of your lip.
. . .
After a moment of awkwardness and getting situated in your dorm. (You on the bed, Katsuki on your chair that was not in the best condition.)
You glance back up at him and then sigh quietly.
“So.. Bakugo what did you need to come in for..?”
A moment passes by with neither of you saying nothing. Bakugo wondering what he could say to not seem like a total weirdo for coming in this late.
“..heard something come from your room. Didn’t let me sleep. So I came to see what it was.. got that..?”
“Ah.. alright. Well sorry if I was being too loud. If that’s all you wanted to say then I’ll walk you out.”
Exasperated, you stand back up with a slight hint of annoyance in your tone. I mean who comes in at 2 fucking am to tell someone they were being too loud?
And if he heard shouldn’t he have minded his own damn business!
Then.. well the unexpected happens.
. . .
Katsuki stares at you for a moment then stands up and steps closer. Of course he sucked at comforting but he definitely wasn’t going to let this pass by without a word.
Not when you were crying.
“Why were you crying? And didn’t even try to say you weren’t.”
Leaning down to look at you better, then hesitating slightly as he put his hand on your chin and tilt it up.
Not wanting you to look away and even try to lie.
. . .
To say you were surprised would be an understatement.
Since when did Bakugo care about you? And why was he so insistent on knowing? (Although you’d never admit it, it was nice to know he cared this much.)
“Why do you want to know Bakugo? To use it against me?”
“No! ..No. I’m not going to use something like that against you. Just tell me idiot.”
Damn it, when he says it like that it’s hard to say no.
..well not really. But when it comes to Bakugo why would you say no? Especially since he never cares this much for anyone.
. . .
“Fine.. I just.. was feeling overwhelmed okay? Now can you at least let go of me?”
You shuffle a bit under his gaze, and touch. Glancing away for a moment then glaring weakly at him.
Tears beginning to well up once again (without your permission, how rude.)
Then once again, Katsuki surprises you.
How?
By pulling you into a hug.
. . .
What?
It takes you a moment to comprehend what is happening. But you don’t get much time to think about it before he speaks again.
“Come to me next time idiot.. I don’t care if you’re scared of me or some bullshit like that. I don’t want you to be upset like that alone.”
A beat of silence is there before the tears flow freely. (How you held back this long, I don’t really know.)
Lowering your head to his chest and slowly gripping the back of his shirt is almost an instinct you didn’t know you had.
This never happened, not between you and Bakugo. But you weren’t going to let it end now.
Not when you needed it this badly.
And unbeknownst to you, he did too.
. . .
Thank you for reading my first real post, I hope to get better over time! Please send me any advice if you feel like I need it ^^
boyfriend katsuki doesn’t know, or care, about the difference between your wants and needs.
you’re out of your favorite lip gloss? it’s sitting on your desk the next morning, the exact shade, down to the brand, like he memorized it months ago.
you mention craving a drink in passing? he’s pressing the bottle into your hand within minutes, like it just magically appeared in his pocket.
you linger a second too long in front of a display window, eyes catching on a delicate necklace? its draped around your neck by nightfall.
when katsuki’s your boyfriend, the world bends to your desires. because if you want it, then in his mind, you need it. and katsuki always makes sure you have what you need.
you’ve been locked in a tower for years.
and yet, the moment you spot the man climbing up the side of the tower, your first thought isn’t what the hell is he doing here or how do I stop him or is he some thief trying to rob me.
it’s more like: is this what freedom feels like?
you sit there, watching as the man makes his way up, all confident and smug, like he owns the world. something about his cocky grin makes your chest tighten. he’s definitely not a normal person.
he finally reaches the top, and your hands tighten around the edge of the window as he peeks his head over the ledge.
“oh, great,” he mutters, brushing his hair out of his face. “another damn tower.”
you blink. “who are you?”
he looks at you like you’re the one who just asked a stupid question. “the name’s katsuki. who the hell are you?”
your jaw drops slightly. “you climbed up here—without permission?”
“yeah. what of it?”
you stand up, grabbing the frying pan you keep tucked away (you’re not stupid, you know how to defend yourself). “i’m gonna have to knock you out if you try anything funny.”
he raises an eyebrow. “do you know how ridiculous that sounds?”
“do you know how ridiculous you sound climbing into someone’s tower?” you shoot back.
he shrugs, still standing there, like he couldn’t care less that he’s in someone’s home. “i wasn’t planning on being a good guy today.”
you narrow your eyes at him, gripping the frying pan tighter. “you should’ve thought of that before breaking into my home.”
katsuki glances around, seemingly trying to find something to occupy his attention. “i’m just trying to hide from some people. didn’t expect to find a princess up here.”
your eyebrows shoot up at the word princess. “i’m not a princess,” you snap. “i’m just trapped here.”
he quirks a grin at that. “sounds pretty princess-like to me.”
you sigh, turning your back on him and walking toward the corner. “whatever. just… stay out of my way.”
he snorts but doesn’t follow. instead, he walks around, casually inspecting the room with the disinterest of someone who’s seen it all.
you’re not sure why, but there’s something about him that feels different than all the other intruders who’ve come into your tower. there’s a confidence to him, yes, but also an edge—like he’s not afraid of anything, but he’s got something to hide.
—
after a little awkward silence, he finally speaks.
“what are you doing up here, anyway?”
you look up from your window, your hand absentmindedly tracing the long strands of your hair. “i paint. i… i always wanted to see the floating lights.”
“the what?”
“the floating lights,” you repeat, your voice soft. “they float up every year, the night of my birthday. no one ever told me why. but… i want to see them. one day.”
he glances at you, and for the first time, there’s a spark of something softer in his eyes. “and you’ve never been outside?”
you shake your head. “no. never. i’ve tried. but—” you pause, pulling your legs up to your chest. “i don’t know how to leave. i don’t know what to do.”
there’s a long silence, and you’re not sure if it’s pity or something else, but katsuki finally shrugs.
“how about i help you?”
you blink, stunned. “what?”
“i’ll take you to see these damn lights of yours,” he says, crossing his arms. “just one night. that’s it.”
your heart skips a beat. “you would do that?”
he smirks, his usual cocky grin returning. “you’re not the only one trapped here. i’ve got my own reasons for needing to disappear for a while. so let’s call it even. you don’t kill me, and i take you to the lights.”
you hesitate, your fingers twitching nervously. this is crazy. he’s a total stranger. but there’s something in his eyes… something that feels like trust. or maybe hope.
“okay,” you say, finally. “okay, let’s go.”
—
the day passes in a blur of frantic packing, hasty escapes, and the feeling that this is your first taste of freedom.
katsuki’s the one who leads the way, even if he grumbles under his breath about “getting out of this place before anyone finds us.” you follow him, every step feeling like you’re walking out of the only life you’ve ever known and into something else—something real.
you don’t notice the first time his gaze lingers a little too long. maybe it’s while you’re laughing at something stupid, sunlight hitting your cheeks just right. or when you’re brushing your hair back behind your ear as you look up at the sky. it’s fleeting—barely there—but his expression changes.
a small, teeny tiny smile. the kind you’d miss if you blinked.
he doesn’t say anything about it. he just walks a little closer beside you, like he doesn’t even realize he’s doing it.
—
the boat ride down the river is quiet. the lights above start to flicker, rising like stars stretching their wings.
you’re almost there.
you’ve never seen anything like it. the sky is full of floating lanterns, glowing softly in the night.
you sit at the bow of the boat, staring up at the lights with wide eyes. you could reach out and touch them if you wanted to. you could feel them.
“this is… this is amazing,” you whisper.
katsuki’s gaze is on you, not the sky. his lips quirk into that same soft, secret smile. “yeah. i guess it is.”
you look at him then, really look at him. and maybe it’s the lanterns, or the water, or how your heart is racing, but something feels different. like this moment matters.
“you’re not like anyone i’ve met.”
you smile back, breathless. “neither are you.”
you both sit there, eyes locked. the world feels too still. too quiet.
katsuki reaches out slowly, almost unsure, brushing your hand with his. when you don’t pull away, he links your fingers with his, gently. like it means something.
“hey,” he murmurs, barely loud enough to hear over the water.
you look up, lips parting.
“can i—” he leans in, slow, cautious, voice dropping lower—“kiss you?”
your answer is a breathless nod.
and then he’s kissing you, tender and slow and so incredibly soft you forget how to breathe.
it’s not rushed. it’s not wild. it’s careful.
like he’s memorizing every second of it.
his hand comes up to cradle your cheek, thumb stroking just under your eye as he deepens the kiss a little. not too much. just enough to make your fingers tighten gently around his.
you pull back, lips still brushing, and his forehead rests against yours.
neither of you says anything.
you don’t need to.
the sky is full of the light you spent years praying to see up close.
but somehow, all you can focus on is him.
B-B-BOYFRIEND!
pairing: bakugou katsuki x reader
scenario: he wants that cookie so effing bad but reader is oblivious to it all.
clueless.
you were damn clueless about what you were so sure you wanted.
look. bakugou didn’t mean to overhear unlike other times (ehem the sports festival) but you weren’t really being quite about it. often complaining to the other girls about how you’re looking for a boyfriend, how you want someone to be there for you yet no one seems interested.
mina in particular would glance over where he sat, laughing at your obliviousness. pointing out your blindness to the fact that someone IS interested but you waved it off like a fool as if he doesn’t cook your favorite food each time when he’s assigned dinner duty, as if he doesn’t walk by the road so you’re on the safer side, as if he doesn’t let you ramble whatever it is you wanted to talk about listening genuinely and how if it were anyone else he’d walk away without a second thought. yet you can’t see all the lengths he’s going through just to show you how capable he is to fulfill that role.
it’s getting to the point where he thinks you don’t like him specifically because how can you not get it? are you avoiding him by pretending not to know on purpose to lightly let him down?
fuck, he even talked about his situation with his self proclaimed friends and they all told him to just fess up to you but damn it do you make him feel like a fool himself.
“dude why don’t you ask her yourself?” sero genuinely asked, wondering why his strong headed friend who doesn’t hesitate in the face of danger become so suddenly hesitant when it came to you.
“yeah! be a manly man and just do it.” the red headed boy spoke all fired up, patting the unshaken boy on the back whose face never seemed to cease from its frown.
“what? don’t tell me you’re scared kacchan?” kaminari teased and for what’s probably the hundredth time he got blown up by bakugou’s quirk, again, he really never learns his lesson.
so when the end of the year party eventually comes up you find yourself cornered by the explosive boy. dragged firmly away from the crowd of your peers, looking at you with angered brows and an upset pout. you supposed he tried to look indifferent and unaffected but he looked like anything but.
“what’s up bakugou?” you asked smiling up at his sharp expression.
“you’re blind as fuck.”
“what the— not even a hello???” you asked incredulously at his unprompted comment.
“shit. okay wait, let me think. you are unaware of things you should be aware of.”
…blink…..blink...blink
“is this about the homework I totally failed? I told you not to bring it up bakubro—“
“no and don’t call me that!” he shouted, popping a red vein.
“why??!”
“because I don’t want to be your ‘bro’”
“what. you don’t want to be friends anymore?” you wobbly asked, eyes watering like that one emoji you always fucking send him. for instance,

finally you understood.
“you want to be best fri—“
“FUCK NO! WE’RE NOT DOING THAT SHIT SO I’M JUST GONNA SAY IT.” he exasperatedly yelled, grabbing both your shoulders. breathing in once and out he spoke loud and clear, the feelings he held close and dear.
“I WANT YOU, YOU DAMN IDIOT! LET ME BE YOUR BOYFRIEND!!!”
“what?” you stared at him all startled and wide eyed as your mouth pulled downwards and eyes squinted to tears as you began to cry.
“what the— why are you crying!? do you hate me that bad?” bakugou asked hiding his hurt by wiping your tears away with his thumb as he gently held your face.
“no I want you too!!!! I just never thought you felt that way about me.” you whined planting your face in his chest.
“yeah no shit.”
“what?” you asked, slightly pulling away.
“nothing.” he answered shoving your face back in his body with one hand, relived that you actually felt the same way all this time.

bakugo carries your photo in his wallet, one particularly special to him.
✮ content. pro-hero bakugo x fem!reader. fluff. reader & bakugo are married w/ a kid (brief mention of family). early 30s.
Bakugo keeps a picture of you in his wallet, and no, it’s not from your wedding or a fancy hero gala.
Hell, it's not even recent.
It’s a polaroid that's almost a decade old; faded, creased and worn with time. The scribbled note in permanent marker on the bottom is still legible in your handwriting, a few hearts with the words "love you!!” etched on to it. Mina insisted on taking everyone's pictures for the new year, flashing her camera around until there were little white squares littering the floor. At the end of the night, you grabbed one — the one — that you thought was the best of the bunch. Bakugo still remembers how your face lit up when you found it as if you’d discovered a hidden treasure.
Well, in one way, you did.
It was a sweet moment, one that you viewed as a cute candid shot of you two on the couch together, sitting in his lap with your arms around his neck as he held your waist. But to him? That was the night he knew, all those years ago, that you were his future — his forever.
So now, as he stands at the grocery store shopping for your little family, the photo peaks out of the pocket of his wallet and fills him with a nostalgic warmth. It’s a small token, a reminder, that being the best hero isn’t his only reason to keep going.
And he wouldn’t trade it for the world.
