I accidentally took it into my head to draw them. (I tried to draw it in my own style, not the style of the series)

does anyone else have that book you read in like middle school that haunts you to this day. like it fundamentally altered your brain chemistry because of how fucked it was. and im not talking warrior cats, or watership down, or animorphs. like the book that you read that youve never met someone else whos read it or you were convinced you made it up somehow

Every year I seem to get a re-interest in the children's book illustrations of Erik Bulatov and Oleg Vassiliev and considering the season I wanted to do something related to the Nutcracker inspired by their work heehee :]] Below are some sketchbook doodles and an alt version with some text playing around with a picture book feel!!!
