one reason why doctor who is my favourite show and it will always be the show that impacted me the most is their take on humanity and human rituals. when the doctor said i need you (companions) to see because i can’t see it anymore… you’ve seen one star being born and dying and you’ve seen them all… you make all of time and space your backyard and what are you left with? a backyard…. when the doctor said “Come on. No human’s ever seen this. You’ll be the first.” and donna said “all I want to see is my bed.” and when the doctor said “that’s what you do. The human race makes sense out of chaos. Marking it out with weddings and Christmas and calendars. This whole process is beautiful.“ and when the doctor said “there is not happy ever after, it’s just a lie we tell ourselves because the truth is so hard” and when river said “no, my love, happy ever after does exist. it just means time. little time.”

it makes me so happy that alex wrote herself her own river song fanfiction and got it OKed by doctor who, so now it's canon

river song is The character to me because she's trying to be soo mysterious (it's like 50/50 on her wanting to be mysterious, and it simply happening due to the time travelling back to front nature of their lives) and sexy and so capable and all of these things and she IS, obviously but also. i don't feel like we talk enough about how weird she is?? how truly extraordiary she is. river song reads books like "history's finest exploding restaurants: the best food for free, skip the coffee" and also randomly has a fez in her bag (it's 11's). her and her husband are not only married to each other, but also both married to cleopatra. she married a guy because she wants to kill him and scoop out his brains for the most valuable diamond in the universe. she's my dream girl.
