this was the third time. the third time you got left on delivered for a ridiculous amount of time. you roll your eyes at the unread text you sent about three hours ago, when you were still in school. but you had already walked home, showered, and changed, and miles still hadn’t answered.

“lil nigga must think i’m one of his hoes, cus he sure as hell actin’ like it.”

you roll your eyes as you mutter under your breath, plugging your phone up and going down stairs.

“gramma!” you called through the house, knowing that your grandmother was doing your siblings hair in her room. pulling a juice out the fridge and taking a sip, you wait for a response.

“what you need, baby?”

“is it okay with you if i go out for a lil bit? like to the mall or something?”

“did you finish the dishes like i told you to?”

“yes ma’am.”

“then it’s alright with me, baby.”

“thank you!”

you went and got changed, plopping on your bed and laying on your stomach. you picked up your phone and dialed eli to see if she wanted to come with. the phone rang three times before she answered.

“heyyy, wassup shawty boo?”

“girl, what the hell is a ‘shawty boo’?”

“it’s you. you’re my shawty boo.”

you roll your eyes before flipping onto your back, glancing at your phone for a second before putting it back to your ear.

“whatever. anyways, you tryna come to the mall wit me?”

“of course. is miles coming too, or is it just us?”

a small scoff left your lips, and it took all that was in you to not roll your eyes once more.

“hell nah, he ain’t coming. he still hasn’t even read the text i sent earlier when i was in class wit you.”

a scoff, sounding a bit more disdainful then yours, left her lips, coming out a bit muffled due to the phone speaker.

“lemme bite his fucking kneecaps, see if he leaves you on delivered again.”

you cackle and kick your legs before releasing a loud sigh.

“girl, you always talking ‘bout biting a nigga’s kneecaps. but whatever. it’s just us two, you down?”

“yea, i’ll be ready by the time you roll around.”

“aight, i’m on my way.”

you and eli sat at the table in the small cafe, drinks in hand. she had a pout on her plump lips and a furrow in her brows.

“nah, he must wanna be single cus you too damn fine to be gettin’ treated like this.”

she paused before shaking her head, blonde coils of hair bouncing side to side with the movement.

“yea, he needs his kneecaps bit the fuck up. lil nigga is triflin’.”

it had been an hour since you picked up eli and arrived at the mall, and still no response from miles. both of you were fed up.

she grabbed your hand and stood up.

“come on, shawty boo, we going shopping.”

“ion got money for that-“

“i just got paid, lemme be your sugar mommy for a bit. you tryna get them new forces? the pink and purple ones, right?”

you rolled your eyes and let her drag you to the sneaker place at the mall you two would window shop at.

“eli, these shoes are too damn expensive.”

“girl hush. you know miles gets jealous when anyone else treats you, maybe he’ll notice and stop being a dickhead, yea?”

she strolled the aisles, looking for the pair you had been fawning over, and her short figure looked even shorter in front of the tall shelves.

she bent down to look at a pair of jays, her thighs spilling out of the rips in her jeans slightly. you groaned obnoxiously.

“eliiii, hurry the hell u-“

you went silent and crossed your arms, teeth gritted in a tight lipped smile.

“hmm? shawty boo, what did you say- oh hell no.”

she stood up and looked at the scene you had your eyes glued on. there he was. miles gonzalo morales, a couple aisles down, with the girl from algebra that stays flirting with him.

“this nigga gotta be on some shit.”

eli’s blue eyes widened in disbelief, and she started to walk over there, dragging you with her.

“eli, ion feel like dealing wit this right now-“

“i really don’t care, cus he doesn’t answer his phone for shit, and if he did, all he would do is deny.”

she huffed and came to a stop in front of the two, before clearing her throat in the most obnoxious way possible. miles turned around and his duotone eyes widened.

“oh shit-“

“oh shit is right you bitch ass motherfucker.”

eli looked up at you in surprise, before smirking and backing up, realizing that her presence wasn’t needed.

“so i’m sitting here, left on delivered for hours, and you’re over with the bitch you called annoying? the bitch you called aggravating? that’s real fucking crazy to me.”

miles rolled his eyes before holding his hands up defensively.

“look, ma-“

“don’t fucking ‘ma’ me! i been dealing wit yo shit for too long, nigga! you fucking lucky ion let eli break- or bite your kneecaps like she wants to!”

he looked from you to eli, slightly confused.

“bite my kneecaps..?”

eli nodded.

“you heard her. and you!”

she turned to the girl, who had been standing behind miles during this whole ordeal. she looked up from her phone, a bored look on her face.

“i’m sorry, what? i didn’t hear you, there’s so much height between us.”

eli’s eyes widened and a smile of disbelief found its way on her face before she turned to you.

“lemme drag this ugly ho, lemme fuckin’ drag her.”

you shook your head.

“she ain’t worth your time. hell, she ain’t worth shit. miles, we’re done. you not welcome at my house, you not welcome in my space. stay the fuck away from me.”

miles shook his head and took a step towards you.

“cmon, ma, you know i-“

“shut the hell up. i don’t wanna hear allat.”

eli nodded before taking the shoes she had in her hand to pay for them. while she was gone, there an awkward stare down happening between you and miles.

“… so it was all for nothing? everything we did was fake, huh?”

“you know that’s not true-“

“no, ion know shit, miles. why would i trust a damn thing coming out yo mouth when you’re standing right in front of me wit another female?”

“she has a point-“

eli came back with the bag and handed it to you. miles eyed it disdainfully.

“the hell is that?”

you raised an eyebrow in confusion.

“shoes, nigga, the fuck it look like? i wanted the pink and purple forces, so eli got ‘em for me.”

he scoffed and pointed at the bag.

“really, ma? ¿hablas en serio? you lettin’ other bitches buy you stuff now?”

eli grabbed your hand before you could respond, dragging you out the store before you could respond, muttering under her breath.

“stupid bitch. him and the girl.”

you sat on your bed in your pjs, hugging your pillow. eli wanted to stay, but you insisted she left.

“lemme know if you need anything, boo.”

you had blocked miles, getting tired of him blowing up your phone, when just a few hours prior he wouldn’t even click on your contact. your eyes were puffy and raw from how much you’d been rubbing them, wiping tears that you didn’t want to fall. you were drifting in and out of sleep, when you heard your window open. you didn’t look. you didn’t need to. you knew who it was.

“so you gon’ block me? like i won’t show up to your house?”

you sat up, looking at him tiredly.

“i said you not welcome here anymore, miles.”

“but you blocked me, so obviously you want me to come talk to you in person, ma.”

“that is so not what that means.”

he ignored you and walked up to your bed, crossing his arms and looking down at you with an amused smirk.

“… so what you boutta do? find someone else? you ain’t gonna find someone like me, and you know it.”

“that’s the fucking point, miles. you cheat, you lie, you neglect. you think i wanna find someone like that again?”

“who the fuck are you talking to? pon algo de respeto en mi nombre, no me hables así, ma. this was a one time thing.”

“it shouldn’t have happened at all, miles.”

he sighed in exasperation and sat down next to you.

“mami, she didn’t mean anything. i love you, not her. tu y solo tu mi amor. you know that. it’s always been you.”

“then why am i not enough? why do you need her on your arm? why do you ignore me?”

at this point, the tears started to flow again. he plopped down, laying next to you and looking up at the ceiling, his lanky legs hanging off your bed. he plays with the bracelet on his wrist subconsciously. the bracelet you got him for his birthday last year.

“i meant it when i said you were the only one for me. but- you’re perfect, so perfect, and i’m not good enough for you. i stand next to you and feel so out of place, like i can’t give you all you need. i’ve never cheated before, ma, i swear! i was only with her because of how fake and superficial she is, and i felt like i was better than her. te amo, con cada parte de mí. pero no soy lo suficientemente bueno para ti, y duele.”

now his eyes were teary, and the green and brown of his eyes were shiny, and gorgeous in the soft light of your room. he sat up to look at you and started to cry, tears falling down his soft, freckled cheeks. his lips were pursed and his brows were furrowed, and the dimple that showed when he smiled was nowhere to be found.

“ma, please forgive me. it’ll never happen again, i swear. i should have talked to you, told you how i felt. just- please. don’t leave me. i need you.”

his chest rose, his breathing coming out with a stutter. his eyes were big, and desperate. you put your hand on his cheek, wiping away his tears before leaning in and placing your lips on his gently.

he clung to you, as if you were all he had, all he needed. as if you were his lifeline, his float in the heavy waves of the sea. as if you were the last little bit of light in his dark. his fingers gripped your shirt and he kissed you like it was his last time, moving his soft, plump lips furiously against yours.

both of you were still crying when you pulled away, and neither of you said a thing for a moment.

“… miles?”

“yea?”

“can we please just be us again?”

“… yea.”
