Just thinking about “The Incident” that just happened on Hermitcraft and I realized something. If a war does start from this, this would be the first time Scar and Grian have been on the same side during a war in all of Hermitcraft (if I recall correctly). And it’s all because they jointly messed up.
I mean, Doc is going to completely destroy them, but they’re still on the same side.
Not gonna lie, I think the lack of fandom consensus over the symbol of Martyn’s victory makes a lot of sense in-universe.
Martyn won by being independent. He lied, betrayed, killed, and prioritised himself. He knows this is a death game, is fed up of it, and goes for it.
This isn’t some sappy poetic end in which love and friendship win. We don’t get a coherent continued narrative of the sun, the moon, the stars because Martyn took that narrative thread and chopped it. He wanted to win. He just wanted it to end.
Martyn is the sea, everchanging and salty. He’s also the woods, fresh and green and lively. He’s Mars, a warrior for his red planet. He’s a meteor, crashing and burning. He’s everything all at once, like how he goes everywhere and meets up with everyone. He’s everything, but at the same time, he’s the void. Space. He’s nothing.
But then again, he doesn’t fit in. There’s no poetic end that everyone can instantly agree on. It’s divisive. Martyn caused that.

Grians appearance / skin never changing no matter what life he’s on has to be symbolic of something, just hear me out.
He’s really the same person in and out whether he’s red life or not. He can be just as cruel, just as blood thirsty. It doesn’t affect him the way it affects everyone else. The way other red names will go mad and their eyes will turn that blood red color, Grians eyes will remain those same beady brown beads they were before he died. Whether he’s your friend or your worst enemy, he will look at you with his tiny innocent eyes. His red sweater will not change color, perhaps the red motif in every design shows that he if Grian wants you dead, you will be dead whether he’s on red name or not.
I think I can also use this idea to add to the Grian watcher theory. The lives don’t change his thoughts in the same way, not having as much control over him. With his higher level of knowledge and inner workings of their world, he uses the lives to his advantage. Always reminding people “he’s on red life, he’s allowed to do that.” But Grian himself doesnt actually feel that change. He will push people from cliffs, lure creepers to his friends side till they explode, whether he is green yellow or red. Because at the end of the day, despite that horribly red colored sweater, Grian is the color purple. Always a watcher.
This guy is really going to regret sitting down with Jon
I LOVE when the monster characters are so so human (sometimes even moreso than the human characters)
im listening to tma for the first time with a friend!
characters who view themselves as tools/weapons first and people second... characters who martyr themselves for a cause because they think that's the only way they can be worth something... characters who push themselves past their breaking point again and again and again... characters for whom devotion and masochism are inseparable... characters whose self-sacrifice becomes self-annihilation...... what was my point again? i had a point. anyway.
like as a feminist and an asexual if you ever imply that not having sex / not having "enough" of it is a conservative or reactionary trait I will be running you over with a bus pronto
