Asking and reaching out is not weakness. You are not annoying because you need attention. Make yourself known.
fuck it’s august??? what’s next? 2022???? can’t do this anymore
Even though they never stick to their resolutions, Molly has made it a Weasley tradition that the whole family must pick a resolution and share it with the others. One year, when the kids are grown and groaning about having to pick a resolution that they always ignore, Molly gets fed up and decides they’ll do this “Secret Santa” style. They’ll draw names out of a hat and pick anonymous resolutions for each other because she’s just not giving up on a resolution. One year she might actually meet her goal. She encourages the family to take this seriously by bribing them with a special Christmas meal in February if they take their resolutions seriously for just one month.
Molly’s assigned resolution is to stop critiquing her children for their appearance or identity, which she immediately protests but Arthur gently reminds her that this was her idea and perhaps one of her kids is trying to get her to realize something.
Arthur’s is to laugh more.
Bill’s is to visit home more.
Charlie’s is to write them letters first instead of always having to be written to first.
Percy’s is to try something new that doesn’t have to do with schoolwork.
Fred’s is to apologize when he upsets someone.
George’s is to take a risk just for himself.
Ron’s is to be more accepting of his strengths and good qualities.
Ginny’s is to at least be honest with herself about her feelings.
Just the resolutions they assign to each other stir up some complaining and questions. Molly insists she doesn’t critique, just be a mother. Percy complains he’s already got enough on his plate. Fred is sure Percy is just trying to get Fred to stop teasing him, which is not going to happen. George has no idea what his resolution even means, and Ginny insists she doesn’t get hers either. Ron just sulks. Arthur, Bill, and Charlie are the only ones to start out with a good attitude about their resolutions.
But one of Molly’s decadent Christmas meals so soon again has them all at least willing to try. When Molly sees that, she agrees to try as well.
It’s a very trying month. A lot of stuff spills out between the family. With Molly pursing her lips, Ginny finally feels free admitting that she’s a girl and she can be a girl and a tomboy and that’s okay. And she’s bi (”welcome to the club, sis” Bill tells her). George is coming out as aromantic (which earns him a high five from aroace Charlie). Even Percy is admitting that he’s asexual (he rolls his eyes at the high five, though). Molly’s first instinct is to deny all this, but a look from Arthur has her pursing her lips and going silent, actually resulting in her doing some soul searching.
Percy’s new thing happens to be dating, which he’s more comfortable doing after saying out loud that he’s asexual and feeling like he can tell others, too. Charlie never knows what to say, so he takes advice from Tonks on what he should say. His resolution ends up helping Arthur to fulfill his own assigned resolution to laugh more. George helps Fred understand what his resolution means, and Fred helps George realize what his resolution means. When Hermione calls out one of their pranks, Fred actually apologizes to her and the third year tester, who had really just wanted to hang out with the twins. George decides to go for it with Angelina, who tells him she’s flattered and honestly feels the same but doesn’t want anything to ruin their Quidditch dynamic. It’s disappointing but also somewhat freeing for George, who usually doesn’t do anything if it doesn’t involve Fred.
As resistant as Molly is towards accepting that her resolution, it’s Ron who really has the hardest time with his own resolution. No clarifying moment comes to Ron to get him to stop comparing himself to his brothers (or Harry). It’s a lot of support from his siblings, whom he’s embarrassed to talk to about this, and Hermione and Harry that ensures he sees any progress at all, as small as it is.
It’s one of the best Christmas dinners they have, especially since they’ll get two that year. It surprises them who assigned their resolutions, though. Molly was sure hers was Bill, but it turns out to be a grinning Ginny, who’s smiling and laughing and talking more freely now that Molly is finally calling her Ginny. Arthur thought his might be one of the twin’s - probably George, but it turns out to be Molly, who kisses him and tells him she loves his laugh and he deserves happiness. Bill thought his was probably Molly’s, but it’s Fred, who does enjoy his visits but also enjoy’s their mother’s attention being a little diverted away from him and George’s own shenanigans. Charlie thought his might be Bill’s so there was less pressure for him to regularly write but was completely surprised to learn it came from Percy, who feels comforted by letters from his older brothers, feels like he can also make his own place in the world after Hogwarts. Percy was sure his resolution was from Fred, who just wanted him to make a fool of himself or take himself less seriously, but Bill winks and tells him not to forget there’s more to life than just classes. (”School is still important!” Molly can’t help but cut in.) Fred had wondered if his wasn’t from Bill trying to get him to mature just a tad or something, but a red-faced Ron admits it was him and that sometimes he takes it too far. Fred bites his lip and apologizes for ruining spiders forever for Ron, who actually genuinely laughs. Ron suspected Ginny might have given him his, but Arthur gives him a warm, fatherly smile, and tells him he hates seeing him so conflicted and down about his own abilities and potential. Which leaves Ginny realizing her resolution was from George, though she had suspected Charlie, who had been the first in their family to come out and the first who had realized Ginny might have her own secret to tell. George gently slaps her on the back and reminds her that that some of the rest of them were intuitive and knew their siblings pretty well, thank you very much. Ginny gets up to hug him and thank him. She’s so much happier now.
All in all, it turns out to be a pretty good start to the new year.
I can really imagine Draco being the kind of person who skips meals a lot. At first it’s because at the manor when he was a kid there were always set meal times and at Hogwarts that’s no longer the case so sometimes he just… Forgets.
And then during the war he just spends as much time as he can hauled up in his room to avoid any of the visitors at Hogwarts or Malfoy manor, which makes finding a decent meal quite difficult.
After the war he’s completely lost his eating routine and even when he does remember that he should eat there’s often this little voice inside his head whispering but do you deserve to eat? Is the pain of being hungry not the perfect punishment for an evil death eater like yourself who slipped through the mazes of the law?
And even when his self hatred lessens a bit he still…. doesn’t eat. He eats with friends, with colleagues at work, with the kind lady next door when she knocks on his door to borrow some sugar (which is just her excuse for a chat). But when he’s alone it just doesn’t happen.
So when, after three days of living on tea and biscuits he emerges from his potions research to pick something up in Diagon Alley, he’s just walking across the street and then suddenly… He isn’t. He’s on the floor, a god awful stinging pain in his stomach, shoulder, the side of his head and the arm he used to catch himself is quite clearly broken.
Not many people care though. Passer by’s are never much inclined to help in the first place, and when they see it’s a Malfoy sprawled out on the street they simply step around him and move on with their day. A couple of youthful fellas don’t even bother to go round, they step on him, which is when…
“Hey! How dare you treat a fellow human being like that!” The fury in Mrs Weasley’s voice is of a kind Draco hasn’t heard since the battle of Hogwarts. He tries to roll over and get a good look at the woman, but his muscles don’t agree with that idea and he faints again.
When he comes to, he’s in a place that is both familiar and completely unknown to him. He’s never been there before, but he knows some of its occupants and the house reflects their spirit brilliantly.
“Ah, I see you’re awake my love.” Mrs Weasley is at his side in an instant, helping him sit up and drink a cup of strong, sweetened tea. “What on earth got into you, to go without eating for this long? I often say to my guests that they look famished, but in your case you actually are skinny to the bloody bone.”
Mrs. Weasley pushed him back into the couch pillows with a kind yet firm hand. To his surprise it didn’t hurt. The Weasley matriarch must have healed him while he was out cold.
“I’m sorry ma’am, I didn’t mean to bother you.” Draco apologised, feeling incredibly stupid laying there on the Weasley’s couch. “I’ll pay attention to that next time I go out.”
“Next time you, next time you go out?” Mrs Weasley sputtered. “Okay that’s it you’re staying here until you’ve properly learned how to take care of yourself young man. I won’t have you leaving this house until you look like you’re living on good meals and love instead of desperation and thin air.”
“But-, but ma’am,” it was Draco’s turn to sputter now. “Don’t you know who I am?”
“I know exactly who you are. Namely a child who’s half starved with no one to properly look after him.” Mrs Weasley said sharply, though something in her eyes told Draco that she knew his last name damn well. He was mildly offended by being called a child though. He was twenty seven, not four. “So, don’t move as I go into the kitchen to make you some decent soup. Try to sleep a bit while I’m gone.”
Then Mrs Weasley left, leaving a baffled Draco. But also a very tired Draco, who was starting to feel the toll of not eating and barely sleeping for three days. Damned potions research for being so interesting. Though he couldn’t make himself think about that now, he was too busy falling asleep again.
“Mum! You didn’t say anything about adopting our best potion freelancer!” Draco was startled awake as the Weasley twins fell out of the heart. “Though I must say I-”
“Fred! Stop disturbing our guest right this instance!” Mrs Weasley came out of the kitchen with a ladle swinging threateningly above her head. “Yes I adopted him because I literally found him passed out in the middle of Diagon alley since he doesn’t eat. And if I find out you two knew about that but didn’t say anything you can both sleep in the garden for the rest of your pitiful existence. Now come into the kitchen and help me peel the potatoes.”
“Wow, passed out in the middle of…” George half whispered as he shot one last look at Draco. “That’s not good.”
No it isn’t. Now come over here and help me feed the young man.”Mrs Weasley ordered. “Both of you.”
Draco, who’d been pretending to sleep the entire time, actually fell asleep again as the twins left the living room. He didn’t wake again until soft fingers and a dreamy voice coaxed him out of dreamland.
“Dracoooo.” Luna whispered, poking his cheek. “It’s time for dinner. You have to eat.”
“Hmpf.” Draco muttered, feeling entirely unprepared for that task. He felt like shit in the middle of a lion’s den and it wasn’t a place where he wanted to be. “Don’t want to. Leave me alone.”
“Luna will do no such thing.” Mrs Weasley had returned, and she clearly wasn’t having his nonsense. “You’ll feel better once you have a good meal in you, Draco dear. That’s a Weasley promise.”
Reluctantly, Draco opened his eyes at that and let the two women help him off the couch. He felt pathetic and dumb and completely unfit for a meal in a way that had nothing to do with his stomach.
“Nice hair, Malfoy.” Fred joked as he started piling way too many things on Draco’s plate after a warning glare from his mother. “Goes brilliantly with the mud stains on your sweater.”
“Thanks.” Draco muttered, feeling way too out of it for a snarky comment. He only just managed to sit down without assistance. “And thanks for all this, Mrs Weasley. You really didn’t have to.”
“Bullshit. If she hadn’t done it I would have.” Draco was startled by the voice of Potter and turned his head just a bit too fast as he watched the man enter. Lucky for him, Potter chose to sit next to him and disguised his unsteadiness by pulling him into a big hug. “Dammit Malfoy, I knew you were skinny but I thought that was a family thing. Turns out you just don’t bloody eat at all.”
Potter sounded almost angry as he spoke, which Draco found quite confusing. He had no time to question it though as Mrs Weasley ordered them all to tuck in, which he did. He only stopped eating when his stomach was filled to burst. Only then did he notice all the other people around the table. Neville, Luna, Potter, Mrs and Mr Weasley, Ron, Hermione, Fred, George, Dean, Seamus, even always busy Holyhead Harpies chaser Ginny was there.
It looked like a true family.
“It’s a nice thing to be part of, isn’t it?” Potter asked with the biggest happy grin on his face. Draco opened his mouth to utter some sort of protest, but Potter wouldn’t let him. “Shut it Malfoy. You are part of it. And you deserve it too, otherwise you wouldn’t be here. Not that it matters if you agree with that or not, Molly is still going to bring you breakfast lunch and dinner until she trusts you to eat properly on your own.”
“You’re damn right I will.” Mrs Weasley confirmed. “Walking half starved through Diagon Alley… That a level of idiocy that I haven’t seen in many moons. Though I’m glad you did love, who known what would have happened if you’d passed out somewhere where no one would find you?”
“I would have died, probably.” Draco noted, realising for the first time how big an issue this eating thing was for him. If he’d passed out in his potions lab, the fumes would have done him in, and in his own flat… It wasn’t odd for him to be alone for a week. Passing out there wouldn’t be the brightest plan either.
“Well then fucking eat like a normal person.” Potter said angrily as he trapped Draco in a bone crushing hug. “You’re not allowed to die, Draco.”
“I’m not?”
“No.” Potter shook his head. “I forbid it. And I’m the saviour so you have to listen to me. It’s the law.”
“I’m quite sure that’s not a law, Potter.” Draco chuckled, but he still enjoyed the sentiment. “But alright, I’ll try.”
“You’ll try when you go back to your own place. Which won’t be for at least two months, Draco.” Mrs Weasley shot him a warning glare. “I’m nourishing you back to health and good habits before you can walk out the door, understood?”
Draco nodded, slightly baffled by how fierce everyone was. He was quite sure they cared more about his health than he did. But as he stayed at the Burrow, quickly integrating into the strange family, he slowly started to care for his own health a little bit.
And it slowly became clear that he wasn’t going home at all. Or rather, not his old home. He had a new home now. First the Burrow, and after a few weeks, Harry’s own flat. Because he was Harry to him now. That, and his boyfriend. A boyfriend who bothered him just as much about food as Mrs. Weasley did.
And for the first time in his life, Draco was glad for it.

isn’t it weird how it’s already february but it’s also only february
I really like assessing how these characters feel and their deeper emotions, especially when relating to this specific song. It demonstrates many different aspects of every single one of these characters, so why not make an analyzation?
EVAN:
Let’s start off with Evan. Good For You begins with the fight between Heidi and Evan after leaving the Murphy’s. Heidi is outraged that Evan’s been spending all this time with the Murphy family, and Evan’s response is to argue that Heidi is never there. Some people say Evan behavior here is really shitty and while I do think that his actions aren’t that good of decisions, we can really understand where they come from. I’m positive that Evan has an intense fear of abandonment. He fears that the people in his life will one day decide that he’s not good enough for them and leave him behind. (This most likely originated from his father leaving at a young age.) He’s terrified that he’s just a burden to his mom and that her life would be much better if he wasn’t there. This fear causes him to refuse to bond with his mom. He doesn’t want to create a connection or tell her his problems because she already has so much going on with work and classes. This is evident when Evan expresses that he thinks Heidi believes Evan is the worst thing that ever happened to her. (She denies this of course). This is also fueled by the fact that Heidi didn’t know of Evan’s broken arm until he was in the hospital. Heidi didn’t respond to Evan’s calls. This wasn’t her fault of course, she was at work. And even though Evan most likely knew this, it’s hard to shake off the fact that maybe…that wasn’t the case. His anxiety can cause him to overthink and he jumps to the conclusion that he really is just a burden to her, which is part of what caused him to let go in the first place. On the other side, he gets validation from the Murphy’s. It’s almost like the Murphy’s actually like him, even though it is all based on a lie. It’s like he’s a part of the perfect family. Evan finds false comfort in that. He really is good at heart and though he did bad things, we can really see where he’s coming from.
A note on his treatment towards Jared, it really isn’t his fault. Evan is under the impression that Jared only hangs out with him for car insurance, that he doesn’t really consider him a friend. That has a huge affect on Evan, since Jared is really the only friend he’s got. So when he lashes out, he thinks Jared won’t care what Evan thinks of him, because why would he? (Of course, Jared has his reasons for doing these things as well, More of him below).
Now for Evan in the actual song. He expresses extreme panic with his few lines. We can see how overwhelmed Evan really is with all the chaos the lying has brought. It’s taken a huge toll on him and he just wants to get out. He wants to erase everything and take back all these lies. But it’s not that simple. Evan’s newfound confidence that starts to shine throughout act II begins to break down as he realizes the affects of his actions.
Heidi:
Heidi’s feelings are the most obvious, given that she has the most lines in the song. She just found out her son has been spending all his time with this family she doesn’t even know. She believes Evan thinks she isn’t good enough for him. She thinks Evan wants to escape her, while Evan is afraid of Heidi thinking the same thing about him. Evan was the best thing that ever happened to her, and he’s leaving now. Heidi is outraged at the lies her son has been telling her about where he’s been (and this is before the big reveal in words fail).
Alana:
For most of the musical, Alana’s been a relatively positive character. She seems well put together and hardworking, but it is revealed to the audience that she’s struggling as well. Her symptoms of high-functioning anxiety are much more obvious to the audience, given that she does sing some of Waving Through A Window in Act One. But her issues are technically revealed during Good For You, after Heidi’s singing. Evan questions why Alana is even a part of the Connor Project, angry and unable to see any possibilities other than her wanting something to put on her resumé. Alana debunks this, stating that she knows what it feels like to be alone and like know one can see you, just like Connor did. She then remarks how Evan used to know how that felt like too. This shows a feeling of anger towards Evan and how he disregards her feelings. She’s almost jealous that Evan was able to realize that he wasn’t alone in this and find solace. She thinks Evan doesn’t care anyone but himself, which isn’t true, but Alana doesn’t know that of course. “Do you even care that you might be wrong? Was it fun? Cause I hope you had a blast while you dragged me along.”
Alana’s anxiety deserves more recognition, and more people need to realize that her sharing the note wasn’t out of malice, it was out of the sheer need to help people like Connor, people like her.
Jared:
Jared, oh Jared. Throughout the musical, he’s the sarcastic, funny character. The token asshole. Or so you think. It’s obvious to most viewers/listeners (more obvious in the actual production than the soundtrack itself) that Jared is putting up a mask of false confidence. He acts cool and put together while he is actually deeply insecure. He doesn’t know how to communicate his actual feelings to Evan, instead telling him they’re only “family friends” so he can get his car insurance. Jared doesn’t know how he’s making Evan feel when he says these things. He could possibly be thinking that Evan just interprets them as what they are, jokes. He fails to realize that Evan believes Jared doesn’t care for him. When Evan yells at Jared during one of the Good For You cutaway scenes, his real feeling show, but the aggression that Jared uses to cope is still evident. Jared’s “Fuck you Evan! Asshole!” isn’t just anger. His voice trembles, quivers. He sounds like he’s about to cry, or is already crying. He thinks Evan doesn’t care about him. They both really have the same problem and are unable to communicate what they’re feeling to one another. Some people are unable to see Jared’s inner struggles and disregard that part of him, only seeing the shitty things he did having bad intentions. It doesn’t excuse his actions, but as with all the deh characters, you can really see where Jared is coming from.
