tl;dr at the bottom
so today i was at the dentist and they saw that i take adhd meds. he said something like âyour case must not be as severe as some peoples. my son has adhd and he is always bouncing off the walls. but i can just sit here and have a normal conversation with you.âÂ
there is so SO much stigma involved with adhd and it drives me insane. iâm so sick of the â10-year-old boy who canât sit stillâ stereotype. this is definitely a way that adhd is presented, and of course theyâre struggles are very valid. but neurotypicals only seeing adhd through that lense is so harmful. first of all, adhd is NOT just a âkids disorderâ. seriously with this one? every article you find is âmy child has adhd how to fix?â or âdoes my child have adhd?â as if only children struggle with adhd. as if it will just magically disappear. iâm so freaking sick of it. next, itâs the lack of understand of the inattentive side of adhd. this most likely comes from many of the symptoms being more difficult for the untrained eye to pick up on. inattentive adhd isnât âless severeâ then hyperactive adhd or âeasier to handleâ. itâs just different! as someone who is primarily inattentive, people just seem to constantly underestimate the effect that it has on our lives. they donât see that we spend hours and hours on a project, all they see is that we turned it in late. they donât see that we have to actively focus on focusing, all they see is us not paying attention. we have to work longer and harder than our nt piers (iâm not saying we have to work harder than nt at everything, just many tasks that a nt would find easy and fast we donât because of the way our brain works!), but since people canât see that, they see us as lazy. âpay attentionâ âtry harderâ âlook at the boardâ âare you listeningâ âlook at me when iâm speaking to youâ âitâs only a few problemsâ. these are things iâve been hearing since i was in kindergarden. this goes for any neurodiverse person: you arenât âweakâ for using your accommodations. they are there to help you, to even out the playing field. i use all of my extra time every time i take a test. is it kind of annoying? yeah. but at the end of the day, it drastically helps me. school and our society in general can be very ableist, and just because youâre struggling with something that neurotypicals arenât, doesnât mean that you are âless capableâ or âmore stupidâ than neurotypicals. be kind to yourself and donât compare yourself harshly to a neurotypical who may be able to do what you can in a much shorter period of time. thatâs not fair, because you have an extra barrier to work with. if you struggle with these things and feel unseen, i see you, and there are many others going through the same thing.
if you have primarily inattentive adhd, or inattentive traits in your adhd, or adhd at all, you are such a badass!
!! of course everyone with adhd is valid and a badass! and primarily hyperactive people are amazing and have some of these struggles and some different ones that i donât fully understand i just wanted to address some things about the inattentive side. i also know everyoneâs adhd is different, i donât speak from everyone whos primarily inattentive and they wonât relate to everything i say!
*this is based off of my experience and research but iâm not saying everything here is a fact, i just want to start a discussion.*Â Â
i realize that i just wrote an extremely long post about adhd, so hereâs the very crucial tl;dr:
inattentive adhd is so valid and isnât âless severeâ then more hyperactive forms of adhd.
just because people canât always see your problems right away, that doesnât mean they arenât valid.
you arenât weak for using accommodations!
just because somethings takes longer for you than a nt doesnât mean you are bad at it, or that you are stupid.

When a ceremonial monarch who largely didn't do anything died, tumblr cheered about it because she symbolised colonialism and imperialism. Not because of anything she personally did, but because of her *symbolism*.
When someone dies who personally presided over mass executions of political dissidents, oversaw as a political leader massive repression of women, religious minorities and ethnic minorities and helped organise genocide and civil war throughout the Middle East, only Iranian and Jewish tumblrs are saying anything.
Skewed priorities much?
Why Gritty Why
It is May but it is still October.
It is still October whenever another hostage's body is found. It is still October whenever another IDF casualty is announced. It is still October whenever the red alert shows up on my phone. It is still October when people chant for "intifada". It is still October when people call for our home to be destroyed. It is still October when people deny what was done to our brothers and sisters. It is still October when people show support for Hamas. It is still October when a new lie about us is believed and spread. It is still October when a former role model wishes us dead.
It is still October.
When will it stop being October?
When October 2024 arrives, will it still be October 2023?
Adhd symptoms no one talks about:
I cant finish cleaning my room because I can't organize my desk because I haven't organized my vanity because I cant organize my vanity because I haven't organized my closet drawers because I cant organize my closet drawers until I organize my nightstand and I cant do that until I GET A NIGHTSTAND because the space between my really heavy bookshelf full of books and the space between my bed is abnormally narrow BUT TONIGHT WHILE I WAS AT ROSS I found the perfect nightstand so now I can go home and put all the stuff thats supposed to go on and under my nightstand on and under my nightstand and then I can organize the space next to my bed, then I can organize the closet drawers, then im at another impasse because I still need the proper vanity organizational materials; but we have made some achievements tonight boys
you know what, iâm about to say it
itâs not just expecting jews to be or proclaim to being pro-palestine/anti-israel/antizionist that is antisemitic, itâs also expecting them to hold or proclaim to holding perfect pro-palestine/anti-israel/antizionist views and politics all the time. and by âperfectâ i certainly donât mean sensible, nuanced, or productive views and politics, i mean views and politics that unchallengingly espouse the mainstream narrative of a solidarity movement riddled with antisemitism. pro-palestine jews become agents of zionism the second they express the slightest discomfort at the unchecked and rampant antisemitism in the movement, the tokenization of their activism, the exterminatory rhetoric surrounding israel, the use of material produced by people with a history of antisemitism, the abuses of bds, the support for deeply antisemitic & armed religious movements, the celebration of people who killed civilians, the erasure of jewish diversity, history and culture, the denial of antisemitism from the holocaust to the jewish exodus from muslim countries, the inappropriate and ahistorical nazi comparisons, the toxic strategies used to dodge accusations of antisemitism - i could go on. expecting jews to be uncritical supporters of a movement in which antisemitism - that is, for those who forget, anti-jewish racism - has such a large audience and amount of offenders, thatâs antisemitism, always.
