I went back and watched the Hen and Chim goodbye scene when Chim was leaving to find Maddie in s5 and the difference between that goodbye and the Buddie goodbye are making me insane.
Hen shows up after Chim is done packing the car up and offers to go with him.
They're both crying the whole time.
Hen is clearly sad to see Chim go, but is so supportive of him going. She isn't bringing any of her feelings about him leaving into it.
They hug goodbye without any awkward 'should we hug' moment.
Hen sadly watches Chim drive away, but there isn't a super long, lingering shot on her as she does.
Compared to the Buddie goodbye.
Buck helps Eddie pack up.
Buck finds Chris's favourite shirt that's he's been missing and tells Eddie to make sure Chris knows he found it (because he clearly doesn't want Chris to forget him either).
Eddie tells Buck he matters to him and he's going to miss him, but instead of getting tearful/emotional about it Buck still seems like he's trying to hide how he's feeling from Eddie.
Buck baked Eddie cookies to help him stay awake while he drives (because he saw how tired Eddie got after driving around all night looking for Maddie a few weeks prior).
The awkward little dance before they hug.
The way they both clung to each other during the hug and Buck buried his face in Eddie's neck was such a different vibe from the Chimney and Hen goodbye hug.
Buck tells him "You get out of here" when Eddie's leaving.
Eddie turns around to look at Buck as he's leaving, like the last look wasn't enough.
Eddie waving goodbye and looking at Buck in the mirror as he drove away.
Buck standing sadly in the middle of the street in the rain as Eddie drove away with the close up on his face felt tonally different than the Hen look while Chim drove away.
Their friendships have always felt different and been portrayed differently, not just in a 'they're different characters' way, but in a way that feels especially stark watching the goodbyes one right after the other. I don't have some grand observation, just that the vibes were so different even though they were both between two best friends saying goodbye for an indeterminate period of time.
calm down guys, it's only the 8th
sorry i got so caught up in maddie being chained up in a basement that i overlooked the fact that buck was being a fucking weirdo about moving into eddie’s house at dinner
..... I don't have to want to sleep with everyone i have feeling for...... BUCK, DID YOU JUST ACCIDENTALLY ADMIT SOMETHING?
eddie saying he's sorry that buck couldn't keep the dog, that he had to give him up and it's said so sincerely and deeply and yeah it's about the dog but it's also about him, it's him saying im sorry i can't stay im sorry i can't let you keep me here im sorry that we have to let each other go, im not sorry for going to be with my son who i belong with, but im sorry you won't be there with us too

Okay btw the parallels between someone who's lost literally their voice and Eddie who's lost his voice when it comes to parenting his kid and doing what he wants... yeah...
My thoughts on the episode:
• I’m so angry that Eddie wasn’t there, whether Bobby’s death is real or a fake-out. He’s a main character who’s been so sidelined it’s insulting, an integral part of the 118, and maybe the character most similar to Bobby himself, with their connection to Buck, their Catholic upbringing, being both widowers and having PTSD/PTSD-type issues.
• For real. They could’ve shown Buck answering Eddie’s videocall and Eddie immediately understanding that something went wrong from Buck’s devastation. It would’ve taken one minute at most and said so much. But no.
• I’M NOT A BIOTERRORIST. But if I was one, I would have FOUR doses ready: two of the superstrain and two of the antidote. a. 1 superstrain to unleash onto the world, b. 1 antidote to use on myself in case I catch the superstrain, and c. 1 dose of superstrain and 1 dose of antidote to sell to Big Pharma for millions so they develop both the antidote and a vaccine. But I guess crazy clouds your mind.
• They could’ve just escorted Moira out of the building before she had the chance to do anything.
• So Bobby caught the illness from a tiny tear in his breathing system but Hen didn’t catch it from having HER CHEST CUT OPEN AND INTUBATED??? Ok
• THEY COULDN’T HAVE TRIED A HAIL MARY OF DOING A TRANSFUSION OF CHIM’S NEWLY CURED BLOOD TO BOBBY? If he was gonna die anyway, couldn’t it have been tried?
• I guess Athena now will have to pretend she didn’t just try to kick her children out of the house.
• Also, how will Athena stay connected to the rest of the cast?
• If Bobby’s death is real, it’s a terrible decision on Tim Minear’s part. 9-1-1 is comfort TV, and striked gold with the cast from season 2, but now they’re messing with the formula. The GA watches mainly for Athena and Bobby (who’s now dead) and the fandom watches mainly for Buck and Eddie (who’s being sidelined). It’s a New Coke situation - if there’s a moment for executive meddling on ABC’s part, this is it.
"don't run off on your people because you have no idea how hard it is on them" buck baby don't bring that precious dog into your gay breakup with your bestie it's none of his business
and actually if you are making people being upset about eddie's absence about like some sort of ship win then fundamentally you are misunderstanding why people are so upset. like, it's INSANE that eddie wasn't there. from just, a general point of view. the fact that a main character of SEVEN YEARS was left out. was not there with his family of SEVEN YEARS when someone deeply important to him died* is crazy and unjustifiable. like, it wasn't egregious because of the buck of it all. it was the fact that eddie should have been there with his family. i literally couldn't give a fuck if tommy was also there. whatever. but including him and not including eddie in a 118 main character death. eddie for whom the 118 is literally his family. who has worked with and loved and supported and been supported by and almost died with these people over and over for the past SEVEN YEARS. that's simply a terrible and absolutely unnecessary choice. and people are justified in being upset by that.
Currently hyperfocusing on 9-1-1 and Buddie instead of studying like I should lol. 24 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ (they/them)
