911 (2018 - ) 2.01 // 8.12
The 911 episodes ratings on imdb are sending me.
This is fucking WILD.
the way they had a solid rating across the board and now they have an episode rated 2.2 is insane.
the difference between this eddie and the eddie from buck's perspective last episode. and they're both real. eddie IS so cool and so funny and so good and he has a silver star and he's a loser and a yapper and a liar and the best dad in the world. he is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie.
"dad would be so proud of you" is literally not a complement considering he was an abusive acholic asshole and bobby was the one who found him dead. not a complment and most likely a way to try to manipulate bobby. fuck that actualy
Ok I need everyone to understand that Buck and Eddie are both products of their upbringing. Buck was a child of neglect, which led to him having abandonment issues. While Eddie was a child forced to grow up too fast, which led to him having hyper-independence. Two different kind of traumas. Two different kinds of trauma response. Which would require two different kinds of help.
Buck and Eddie help each other overcome these things and because they are two different kinds of problems, the way they help will ALSO be different. Ever since they met, Eddie has always been there for Buck (don't even fight me on this) and Buck has always given Eddie what he needs. It will look imbalanced, but it's really not. They both need SOMEONE in their lives, just in different ways.
Buck doesn't need someone to take over his lease, or to take care of his son, or to help him figure out childcare, he needs someone to Not Leave Him Alone. Eddie doesn't need someone to tell him he's not expendable, or to be reassured he's trustworthy, or to be promised he's not going to be abandoned, he needs someone to Give Him a Helping Hand. And the moment they became friends they have been those SOMEONES to each other.
They are each other's persons. Equally.
yeah idk man maybe i just don't like it when characters whose whole story is about choosing to live and overcoming suicidal ideation end up dying in a hero sacrifice. kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth, not gonna lie.
Okay I have so many thoughts about that episode but chief among them is the amount of allusion we got to the relationships within the fire fam. The whole episode was dedicated to reminding us how interconnected they are and how deep those ties run. Like obviously there’s the couple dynamics of Chim and Maddie, Hen and Karen, Bobby and Athena, (and Buck and Eddie), but there was also the little reminders that Buck is Chimney’s brother in law (went home with him after the dinner), that Karen and Chimney are friends outside of Hen and have their own relationship (that actually predates him knowing Hen), that Eddie and Chim are friends (Eddie went running to him right away!). All to drive home that Maddie fought like hell to get back to her FAMILY and Chimney loves her so much that he wouldn’t let himself fully believe she had run away!!
All of this in the same episode we got “it’s not nothing” and “I hope you know you do matter to me” is CRAZY
Ok we’re slowly making progress. We went from “You do matter to me” to “I appreciate you Buck.” Soon we’ll get an actual “I love you Buck”
OH MY FUCKING GOD NO NO NONONONON MADDIEEEEE. I SAID NO MADDIE NDE ON MY PREDICTION HOW DARE YOU 😭
Literally Buck being Eddie’s biggest supporter is so important, Eddie feels so alone and isolated and like he’s on the outside right now, but he’s got Buck. No matter how far away he always has Buck like!!!!!!!!!!!!
Currently hyperfocusing on 9-1-1 and Buddie instead of studying like I should lol. 24 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ (they/them)
