๊ช โโบโ Finding Zatanna alone on the rooftop wasn't a surprise to Selina. What took her aback was the state that she found her friend in. It looked as though the whole world weighed on the magician's shoulders and it pained her heart to witness it. She only hoped that the situation could be remedied as easily as beating some punk to kingdom come.
Hearing the words 'justice league' dashed any of Selina's hope of helping. She sighed and moved to sit next to Zatanna, her legs dangling off the edge of the building as she leaned back on her palms. "You know I've never been their biggest fan. A bunch of goody two-shoes, if you ask me," she said with a smirk. Then she pulled off her knit cap in a show of sympathy. "But I thought you loved being one of them. What happened, Zee?"
Noticing the way her friend anxiously picked at her nail polish, Selina covered her hands with one of her own, giving them a gentle squeeze. "Those losers were lucky to have you, baby."
Response to @felin3fatal3 -> "what life choices brought you here?"
"Well, it's a little hard to stay an average stage magician when people from the Justice League start asking for help. I assume that's not what you're asking about though."
Still dressed up in her regular stage show attire, the woman had taken to the rooftops of Gotham to escape the world for a while. She should've known that it would only be a matter of time before someone found her here. Heroes and villains alike were constantly gallivanting from building to building as if they were crossing the street. Zatanna would've had a better chance of having some alone time if she'd hidden under one of the many bridges throughout the city.
The magician was sure that she looked like a mess. Windswept hair, nail polish that had been absentmindedly picked off had turned into a small pile in her lap. She wasn't even attempting to stop Catwoman from whatever scheme had her running around the city at this late hour.
"Let's just say that the Justice League and I are going our separate ways. It's probably for the best."
๊ช โโบโ Selina wasn't a world traveler, but she knew that there was nothing like the sight of Gotham at night. Imposing gothic architecture mixed with the cyber noir flair of neon lights set the city apart from any other in the world. Surfaces slick with rain provided reflections of the lights from every angle. If she could take her heart out of the equation, Selina could admit that the there was beauty between the cracks and shadows. Unfortunately for her, though, she always led with her heart, letting her emotions rule her actions. When it came to Gotham City, those emotions were less than positive. Sadness, anger, abandonment, resentment just to name a few.
Blรผdhaven might be a short drive away, but it was the escape she needed to clear her head. The ability to live her life without any reminders of her scumbag of a dad, and the time to properly mourn Annika were invaluable assets that she wouldn't have been afforded in Gotham. There was a sense of normalcy that her life had been lacking.... until she turned on the news one evening and saw the reports of the Falcone estate up in flames and Sofia Gigante taken into custody. Again.
Selina had no plans to connect with her half sister, but even she had to applaud the "gas leak" that wiped out the Falcones. Able to read between the lines, she knew that Sofia had more to do with it than was reported. Though she had tried to wash her hands of her past, too many thoughts kept niggling at the cat burglar's mind. Annika was strangled... just like her mom was... just like she nearly was. There were too many coincidences between the murders they say "the hangman" committed verses what her father actually did. Unable to suppress her curiosity any longer, Selina packed a bag and took the two hour drive back to the source of her inner turmoil: Gotham City.
Seeking answers, she was able to break into the Commissioner's office that night to search for any documents on The Hangman's murders. With her backpack full of any hardcopy files she could find, Selina sat down at the computer to start working on getting into the local server. That should have everything on the cases that she'd need. Computer hacking wasn't exactly her forte, but she wasn't entirely helpless. As sharp nailed fingers flew over the keyboard, she suddenly froze when a shadow fell over the screen. The scent of leather hit her before any other clue, causing a small, wry smirk to play at her lips.
Turning in her chair, her eyes fell upon the unmistakeable form of the Batman. She kicked her feet up on the desk, looking entirely at home as she regarded him, listening to his version of a greeting. "I could say the same about you, baby," she practically purred. "Don't worry, I won't be long. Mama's just gotta finish up some work." She returned her attention of the computer, fighting to stifle any erroneous feelings that the sight of him stirred up.

โ you don't seem surprised to see me. โ
๊ช โโบโ Eyebrows shot up at the mention of the new Italian restaurant. It had been all the new rage in Gotham since its opening, pictures of it splashed across the lifestyle pages of the newspapers with Gotham's highest elite in attendance. Selina didn't doubt for a minute that if Zatanna was bringing it up, then she knew a way to get in. After all, the words "justice league" held a lot of weight. It wasn't a world that she was interested in, but being friends with a member had its perks.
"La Salita?" she asked, though it was entirely rhetorical. "Well shit, Zee. You sure know how to show a girl a good time." Getting up from the arm chair, Selina made her way towards the balcony. It was the best exit when she was dressed in her cat suit. "I'll pick you up at eight?" she said as she turned her back to the balcony, shooting her friend a grin. It had been far too long since she'd done anything just for the fun of it. No covert operation or ulterior motive. Just her, her best friend, and some expensive wine.
"Sounds like a plan. It's always a fun time to remind the men of Gotham that we're out of their league."
There was a smile plastered on the magician's face as she was already thinking up what she'd wear tomorrow night. It was warm out right now so there was no need to worry about trying to keep warm. Of course, if they were going to stop at a nice restaurant for dinner, they'd need to make sure they met the dress code for there.
"Wanna hit that new Italian restaurant that opened last month? The one that's at the top that tower and slowly turns so you can see the city from every angle?" Apparently, that restaurant already had a waitlist that was months long. Zatanna knew a few people though. Being a famous magician and an on again, off again member of the Justice League had its perks.
๊ช โโบโ When the brunette turned to reveal her expression to Selina, the latter could see just how distraught she was. There was disappointment in those big brown eyes, but even deeper, Selina could see heartbreak. Whatever happened really got to Zatanna and the Catwoman felt a surge of protectiveness directed against the group of "goody two-shoes".
Yet when the magician described what sort of villain it was that she went up against, Selina's blood ran cold. Violence against women was a sore spot for her and that protective feeling turned into anger. In that moment, she didn't even care what her friend did with her powers. Whatever it was, it had to be justified and the group of self-proclaimed heroes would be blind not to see it.
"Fuck them," Selina said. She lowered her head to level her gaze with Zatanna's, determination and reassurance etched into her features. "Fuck them," she said again, her voice low but steady. Then she offered a soft smile. "I'm proud of you, Zee. In fact, I think this calls for a celebratory shopping spree." Her smile grew into a mischievous smirk.
"Apparently, I overstepped the line as a hero. I made a decision on something with the hopes of keeping people safe. Next thing I know, some of the others are arguing that what I did could be considered on the same level of the actions of a villain."
A soft sight left her lips and she relaxed slightly when Selina squeezed her hands. She was still upset over the whole situation but the comfort was appreciated. The magician turned her head to face the cat burglar, a frown on her face.
"I don't regret my actions. That villain was a different type of evil; the type that every woman fears when walking the streets. It just... It was the first time that I saw my so-called friends scared of my powers."
Zatanna knew that she could just go back to being an average stage magician. She'd adored the job before getting brought onto the Justice League. She'd just wished that she'd left the Justice League on better terms; there was no turning back now.
"Guess that means I can always help you out if you need it," she joked, trying to lighten her own mood.

@safestkittykatintown said: BREAK-IN :ย for one muse to discover the other robbing their place
๊ช โโบโ Blรผdhaven might be Selina's new home, but the cat burglar was far too restless to stay solely within the confines of the city. Visiting other places came with the added benefit of keeping the heat off of her when she was working new scores. She chose her marks carefully, opting for those so wealthy they'd barely miss any items stolen. It was while she was in Virginia, driving between various small towns, that her eyes fell on a particular brunette. What Selina noticed first was the woman's wardrobe. Her stiletto heels would have cost a month's worth of work at the Iceberg Lounge, not to mention the rest of the outfit. She carried herself with the confidence that only rich people did. She would be perfect, Selina thought to herself.
After doing a little reconnaissance to find the brunette's home and establish a pattern for a schedule, Selina chose the night to enact her plan. Getting in was easy. The woman didn't even have a security alarm to disconnect. After doing a sweep of the place to ensure that she was alone, the thief then slinked her way to the bedroom where she searched for the jewelry. She stashed what she could grab in her backpack before her eyes spotted a blue cameo necklace that looked very old. Selina picked it up, letting it dangle in a ray of light from the street lamps outside, her brown eyes studying it with wonder.
Then the light was blocked as though a shadow moved over the window. Selina's attention snapped up to the balcony window where she saw the brunette standing. It was impossible! She had double checked to make sure she was alone in the house and she didn't hear anyone enter. Yet there her mark was, watching as she pawed her way through the jewels. Slowly, Selina straightened, keeping her features under the woolen cowl casual. "Don't worry, sweetheart. I was just leaving."
โบ starter for @frcshkills / sofia
๊ช โโบโ In knowing who her true father was, Selina was well aware of the half brother and half sister she had. They were part of a different world, though, and she never thought twice about reaching out to them. Not until the news report that alerted the world to the downfall of the Falcone family. In her studio apartment in Blรผdhaven, Selina found that she couldn't stop smiling as she absorbed every sordid detail that could be released. If there was one thing she knew about the media, though, it was that one had to read between the lines if they wanted the truth. When Sofia (now known as a Gigante, which is a detail that Selina would never overlook) was arrested... again... she knew that there was more to the story than meets the eye. She still didn't know how to feel about her estranged half sister, especially since the world had dubbed her The Hangman. What monster could kill women like that? Yet Selina had her doubts. Just enough to pique her curiosity and reach out.
It was ten days after she sent the letter to Sofia that she decided to make her return to Gotham. The trip was happening far sooner than the cat burglar liked, but if it meant finding a new ally.... perhaps a new family... she knew she couldn't resist. Her black, patent leather high heel tapped impatiently against the concrete floor as she sat in the metal chair, legs crossed, facing the dirty window that separated her side of the room from the inmates. Selina wore a short, blonde wig, and a coat made of faux tiger fur. She clearly wasn't trying to look discreet.
When the sound of a door opened, brown eyes snapped up to that partition, seeing a guard lead Sofia in. This was it, she thought to herself. The moment of truth. Ignoring her rapidly beating heart, Selina looked the picture of calm as she raised one hand and wiggled her long nailed fingers by way of a greeting.
๊ช โโบโ There was a small sting sent through the bruise as his heavy gloved fingers moved around the discolored skin, but Selina found that she didn't mind. If anything, there a charge that she felt, even through the many layers of fabric as she touched her.
His offer brought a smirk to her features as she held his gaze. "Of course. What was I thinking?" she answered, her voice laced with sarcasm. "After all, I have you on speed dial, right between my pimp and my priest."
Calling Batman. Selina couldn't imagine. They'd only run into each other a handful of times, and every time he seemed more enigmatic than the last. She had no idea what he thought of her, and that, she realized, is the source of her interest.
What was it they say about curiosity and the cat? she thought to herself.
Taking a step back from the vigilante, she was back in business mode. "The good news is, that's one less ruffian you have to worry about on the streets tonight, honey."
