Yep
My g-g-grandfather’s brother John Slaughter as in Texas John Slaughter. I got roots ‘round these parts. Thanks to another Tumblr-er for the photo.
My niece is fascinated with the Cicada Hawk! She took this second picture of it guarding its as yet unemergent young which are consuming a cicada in and underground chamber under the steps of the back porch.
Thankful for this. I need Jesus.

Fenceline weaning the home herd... about 90 mamas. Calves 7 to 8 months old. Dry and running out of grass.
A scorpion with little ones on its back! South Texas is scorpion paradise! Yard work, Loading square bales ‘hay’, Pulling green corn all could be hazardous! However I prefer 'zapps’ from scorpions over wasps or honey bees as they dont hurt as much. According to my grandfather when dried corn was hand harvested 'pulled’ and tossed into a mule drawn wagon the harvester could expected many scorpion stings on his/her hands. Asking about gloves he replied gloves made it difficult to grip the corn so were not used.
I have a partner today checking the cows! She loves me no matter what.
A grower delivered 40-plus melons to every Church in town! I love small farming towns! My parents got one too! I'm sure whatever grocery chain he was growing for decided they didn't want them. So the grower instead of dumping them to rot parceled them out! God bless him and his back!
One last drink before fertility testing at the vets office! 12 bulls tested 10 passed. The girls were waiting! These guys will lose some weight over the next month or two. You can see we are dry. 3/2020
This is not mine. But I love the saying.
Walked in a place on the ranch I dont often visit at least on foot. Ran into a squadron of javelinas. Luckily this old dog, the one pictured not the one who took the photo, did not chase them BUT 2 of them did escort us away following us for 60 70 yards.
Mostly photos of my life in South Texas. I share what I love. The Outdoors and Ranch Life.
