BIG REPUTATION BIG REPUTATION OOOOOOH YOU AND ME WOULD BE A BIG CONVERSATION
I saw that Met post you posted and I never saw that article of Karlie. So what’s the actual story because Karlie said that they did meet in 2011 and talked about baking at Met Gala but I thought they always went with the story that they met at VSFS. Did they talk at Met but then didn’t hang out again until VSFS?
Previous post + (Link to the article of Karlie mentioning meeting Tay at the Met)
That's what i'm curious about too anon! I'm not entirely sure why they pushed the narrative of officially meeting at the VSFS 2013. Maybe someday we'll know exactly why. Maybe their Met Gala 2011 meeting was not the right time bc one (or both) of them were already in a relationship.. maybe they did stay in contact and was friendly with each other even before VSFS. Iirc, there was a rep secret session thing where taylor talks about how her and "joe" got together? (Not sure if these are the exact screenshots, i just googled it quickly)
"Later on, they met up again but things turned romantic" - hence maybe why they emphasized on VSFS '13? 😊 I feel like Taylor was talking about her actual history with Karlie here. Joe has always been the Karlie stand-in, the fact that Toe's "first meeting" was at the Met??? Mimicking Kaylor's first actual (recorded) meeting at the Met Gala 2011? And then the "next time they met things turned romantic" mimicking Kaylor's "official" meeting at VSFS?? None of it was accidental.🤭
this is just… on another level of invisible strings 🥹
i just can’t get over it
i don't really see how 'dating' matty healy is any better or safer than just coming out with karlie at this point.
Yes!!
Let's face it! There is no "r" sound in the word "call" and yet she sings it like a British person trying to say "carl". It really shouldn't be so ambiguous and yet she MAKES it ambiguous lol
"I know Heaven's a thing, I go there when you touch me, honey." Well, we know what Karlie's fry heaven post was about now 🤭
i know heavens a thing
oh and, from the same set of stories,
staring out the window like i’m not your favorite town
i’m new york city
Something I haven’t seen mentioned yet is the implications of how after Taylor climbs into the lavender haze cloud at the end of the video, the cloud *poofs* and mid disappearance, the video cuts to black.
Others have already pointed out that this Taylor is in the same outfit (lesbian flag knit top) as one of the Taylors in Anti-Hero, and appears to possibly represent the public persona Taylor (a theory that is reinforced by this Taylor performing pda for the cameras and the crowd in party scene of this mv).
After the party scene, when the house is empty, the same Taylor starts deconstructing the space, revealing it to be some kind of set. First she rips open the shades over the window, then she starts pushing the walls down.
As the walls fall, she sits in the center of a lavender cloud, with koi fish swimming through the surrounding cosmos.
Then she pulls the cloud over her head like a down comforter, and the cloud begins to dissipate, quickly, before the video cuts to black and ends.
With the cloud, this version of Taylor disappears as well. Which is already interesting. Then you consider that what she leaves behind is midnight blue sky full of koi fish (which supposedly represent being proudly out in Japan)….
It’s a bold interpretation, but it’s also a bold sequence, a bold video, after two other bold videos, and 20 very bold songs.
I believe pretty strongly that she will stay in the glass closet until she can tell her whole truth, and has a strong chance of making a considerable difference in the industry as a result, so I’m not saying I think this means she’s going to come out tomorrow, but i do think it means something. Maybe it’s just to send a message to those who haven’t gotten it yet? Maybe it means she’ll stay in the glass closet but drop the beard soon? Who knows, I just love how loud it is.
Taylor literally told you everything in the bridge of this song three years ago and y’all just let it slide.
“With every guitar string scar on my hand I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover. My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue. All's well that ends well to end up with you.” - Lover
She starts out
“With every guitar string scar on my hand I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover.”
She’s saying she’s choosing to take this person with every bit of baggage they have because she knows this person has done the same for her.
Then she says one of the best yet simplest word plays:
“My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue. All's well that ends well to end up with you.”
Why is it the best? Because you gift something borrowed and something blue to brides. So her heart is this person. And “yours” is her describing her heart which her person has. She’s literally saying my heart (my person) has been borrowed by someone else and it makes me blue. Said differently they have each others’ heart. So the possession describes the person.
We can also look at Cruel Summer where she again tells you she is the blue where she says “it’s blue this feeling I got”
To flesh it out further think of Paper Rings: “I’m with you even if it makes me blue.” Taylor’s the one who is blue.
She even says it in invisible string “Time, wondrous time gave me the blues and then purple pink skies.”
We can look at hoax drawing the same distinction with the following lyric: “You have beaten my heart. Don't want no other shade of blue but you. No other sadness in the world would do.” She is describing that she’s okay with this blue feeling because she loves this person who’s borrowed unconditionally.
We can even jump to evermore (the song) where she touches on this gray sky imagery that she uses to describe hoax in the Long pond studio sessions. She says “Gray November I've been down since July.” This is literally the follow up to Cruel Summer where as stated above she describes her feeling as blue. But she ends evermore with hope. She is enduring this and holding on to the feeling (the faith) that this won’t last forever.
I just love the Lover bridge.
in a world where women empowerment is the thing. especially post barbie era. it's disappointing to see one of the most powerful women in the world succumb to a man for hype because he was persistent in trying with her. what kind of message is that? younger pop idols like billie eilish and olivia rodrigo are much more open with their possible gayness, without denials or having to hide behind *from a man's perspective*. they still achieve the numbers and sales. then there's taylor, doing another old PR tactic.
maybe it was never about hiding or scared that people won't accept her, but it's more she just can't get enough of the fame. she doesn't want to step down. she doesn't want to live her truth in exchange for not being on top. she isn't choosing her karlie again and again. she's just always gonna be like that huh? so disappointed. 1989 era was supposed to be the women empowerment era!
