Genuine question, but how do you deal with knowing it’s impossible to create anything truly original? I’m a huge sci fi and horror fan, I love fucked up concepts and situations, but whenever I think I’ve come across a new concept, I eventually find something that touches upon the same or similar idea, and I lose all motivation to write. Like your story the fluid. I found it poignant and funny, but I just found ‘half a life’ by kid bulychev, and it sounds quite similar
Well I've listened to enough punk bands to know that almost everything has been done before but if you have enough fun with it it doesn't matter. I'm certainly not trying to be truly original, just to do what I like in a way that's fun for me. Sometimes I try to challenge myself to include a different kind of perspective, or an emotion I don't usually try to evoke, or to include an observation or a feeling, or to make something funny out of something that's not, but I'm not trying to think a thought that no one's ever had before. Maybe if I'm lucky it'll happen. Sometimes a wrinkle in your brain will yield something you didn't see coming. But I don't think you can try for it.
Brad Dourif as Seymour Bourne | Rage of Angels: The Story Continues (1986)
Still wringing every drop of creative energy from this Dourif fixation 💞
Tried my hand at rotoscoping this mesmerizing Miami Vice gif (from this set by @exdeputysonso):
The scornful, slouchy staredown here really gets me thinking some special thoughts. And he's doing the thing where he gets all up in someone's face, eyes drilling into theirs from inches away — which by all reports is very truly menacing, but even so...
Then there's that beautifully sleazy little outfit with the shirt and chains... I'm so weak for a well-formed neck and décolletage. (The clothes they put him in really are second to none, including ridiculous loungewear and an iconic courtroom ensemble; see this other gifset for more)
There's an added air of threat from the tiny pupils, which really brings out the cold blue in his eyes, amped up by the matching shirt.
Dropping a few individual frames below the cut...
(He looks a bit cross-eyed because he's focusing on the guy's face like 6 inches away)
legend. role model. majesty.
nyota uhura you will always be famous to me
dizzy...
This was gonna be a multi-movie montage but I started putting it together and he and the camera are just constantly spinning around in Spontaneous Combustion
I could have put in more flame clips for DRAMA, since that's the actual theme of the movie, but lbr it's just an excuse to cut together all my fave clips of BD being pretty 💕
...I put the protagonist guy in and it's so much better.
Ouf, I had to actually draw someone I'm not attracted to... is this what they meant about suffering for one's art 😔

Brad Dourif movie bingo! For your thirstwatch Halloween marathon.
Don't remember whether I came up with "Dourisms" or saw it somewhere else, but there are SO MANY and so few squares on a bingo board! Reducing them to tiny phrases is another challenge; I might do some follow-up posts with gifs illustrating each column. (Surely not an excuse to dig through the media pile again...)
What are your favorite little Brad flourishes?
