HOOO BOY IM OVERWHELMED

In a good way! Thank you all for watching and for all the kind words and support. I was very much crying in my room this morning and feeling the love.

I especially wanna thank all of you here on tumblr! All your asks and questions and investment got ME more invested in my own characters. Like in a way I’ve never felt about my own characters.

But yeah there’s too many messages for me to get to so im probably gonna take a little break today but gaaaah I hope you enjoyed!! I’ll try to sporadically reply to stuff but my phone’s blowing up everywhere hahahaha

Also HAPPY BLACK HISTORY MONTH!! Our stories deserve to be heard and we should be able to exist in ANY genre. I hope this pilot shows that people wanna see Black magical girls and I hope to see more of it, even if im not the one to do it~

My redesigns for the Uglydoll casts. Haven't changed too much besides giving them little accessories, stitches and tears. I'm also adding more to their character.

For example, Moxy is more into exploring outside of Uglyville and her curiosity gets the best of her. She knows there's more out there as she tends to collect stuff that's relate to the outside world, and likes to record everything she sees into her notepad. While she does love her town, Moxy often feels trap inside this safe haven and wants to see what the outside world has to offer.

Don't let Uglydog's chill personality fool you as he's willing to defend his friends and family from any harm. He's the protective guard of the group and is willing to put himself in danger in order to protect his love ones (It's the reason why his tail is torn). He also enjoys making music and partying everyday.

LuckyBat is the shy, but wise one of the group similar to how he was in the movie. Often giving out the best advices and being the emotional support. Though, he wants to learn how to be brave and courageous like Moxy as he often feels like a burden to his friends due to how slow, and weak he is. Wearing his yellow cape makes him feel like a superhero and he never leaves without it.

If you need a certain item or good shelter, Babo's your man. He did helped Ox with building Uglyville in the early days and always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. He makes sure he has the right item for certain situations, and keeps his friends out of sticky situations.

While Wage can be very cynical and harsh to her friends, she doesn't mean any harm. She's a kindhearted chef who loves baking sweets for everyone in Uglyville and putting a smile on their face. Wage just wants the best for her friends and gives them a reality check when needed. She's especially like that to Moxy as she thinks Moxy is too obsess with this so-called outside world and tries to reason with her. Wage also isn't afraid to called out anyone out on their crap and won't hesitate when it comes to standing up for her friends.

Ox is the founder of Uglyville and mentor to all the uglydolls. He makes sure everyone feels welcome and safe, and give them happiness their deserve. As happy as he can be, he knows what's really going on and tries to keep it secret in order to keep everyone safe. Thoughts about his secret being reveal makes him paranoid, and can't imagine what would happened to his precious home. He dismisses Moxy's theories about the outside world and tells that Uglyville is all she needs. After all, nothing can get better than this, right??? The white jacket he wears is a reminder of the memories he cherishes with a certain pretty doll.

Tested out some new brushes from krita. I like it.

Starlit Stitchmouse loves knitting new outfits for her friends. She's all about sharing and being kind to others. Whether it's knitting a sweater or crocheting a plushie, Starlit is your gal. If she isn't busy knitting, Starlit is often seen glazing at the starry night sky.

Lensy Roamapanda

Scent: Bird of Paradise

Prefer to be called Lens, this curious red panda loves to go on adventures, and see new things. He never leaves without his camera and often loves to drag his friends on new quest, or discoveries. Sometimes, Lensy Roamapanda lets his curiosity get the best of him, and wander too far from home.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to post my new artwork since my iPad decided to break while I was trying to finish it. Pretty disappointed about it, but hopefully I’ll get a new one soon.

Do you have any tutorials or online classes that you learned about doing backgrounds? I really want to learn how to do backgrounds/landscape like you!! qwq

Something important that a lot of people don't seem to know is that backgrounds and illustration are the same. I don't think they should be considered separate parts of a drawing because it makes it harder to research and learn.

In my experience, whenever I try to research how to do backgrounds, most of the resources I find aren't very helpful. It's mostly stuff like how to paint rocks, trees, water, etc. which can help! But they only talk about rendering those things. You need to know about shape language, contrast, perspective, light/shadows, brushwork, and composition which illustration tutorials/courses give you. Every rock, tree, clump of weeds/grass, etc. need to fit together with everything else in the landscape.

So! From the top of my head, the online sources I learned from that helped me the most is Tyler Edlin on youtube. Specifically these videos:

Random tips:

color relativity is real and you should use more grey

think of painting like you're sculpting instead

Imply detail: your brushwork should be creating most of the details/texture, so you don't actually need to zoom in really far and render in tiny texture details with a 6px brush (detail is the least important part of the painting imo)

Being a prototype for the PrettyDoll’s toy line has been hell for Lou. Constantly having to be a perfect example to the other dolls, following strict procedures, and having little freedom, it was all too much for poor Lou. To make things worse, he has to go through these testing phrases where he’s torn apart and put back together.

Eventually, Lou got sick of it all and wanted to get away from the pain. Little did he know, he was going to run into the Original; The Prototype. The Prototype greets Lou in a calm manner, understanding his pain. He lets Lou know that he has a plan to free all the experiments from Playtimes Co.’s cruelties, and ask Lou to join him in his rebellion. Without hesitation, Lou agrees; sticking by The Prototype’s side, no longer feeling alone.

Author note: Yay!! I been wanting to make this post for a while, but my old IPad had a reboot loop issue and I had to get a whole new one. Definitely gonna try to post more ideas on this au, but I also want to do some Cookie Run fanart as well since I got back into the game earlier this year. I’m also planning to do some commissions, so look forward to that. :)
