Aphrodite is the ancient Greek goddess associated with love, beauty, pleasure, passion and procreation.

According to Hesiod’s "Theogony", Aphrodite was born from the foam (αφρός) in the waters of Paphos, on the island of Cyprus. She was depicted as a beautiful woman often accompanied by the winged golding Eros (Έρως). Her attributes included a dove, an apple, a scallop shell and mirrors.
