Good news, fellow artists! Nightshade has finally been released by the UChicago team! If you aren't aware of what Nightshade is, it's a tool that helps poison AI datasets so that the model "sees" something different from what an image actually depicts. It's the same team that released Glaze, which helps protect art against style mimicry (aka those finetuned models that try to rip off a specific artist). As they show in their paper, even a hundred poisoned concepts make a huge difference.

(Reminder that glazing your art is more important than nighshading it, as they mention in their tweets above, so when you're uploading your art, try to glaze it at the very least.)

I've been thinking about this for a hot minute. I first used Duolingo for learning Spanish, and recently I started learning japanese

Now one thing I've been told many times by others learning the language is that the grammar was horrible, and as soon as I got to a point where it tried to teach grammar... Absolutly it does kinda suck (the apps grammar, not the languages grammar). I will say I loved learning kana on it because it taught kana in a way that made it super easy for me to memorize. But that's literally all you can use it for

Which brings me to my main point; why would you make an app literally useless. Like, kana is important to learn, but that's just the alphabet, so why is the main focus of the app - language learning - unusable?

On top of this, I read a Reddit post made by someone who used the app for Japanese, and they admitted that the forums were actually a significant part of being able to use the app, because others using the forums would correct mistakes made by the app. Why would you take away a part of the app that is literally helping people learn the language. Which is. The entire point of the app. What.

It isn't about actually helping people anymore and I hate it

If anyone was wondering, Duolingo just got even worse.

Did I daydream this, or was there a website for writers with like. A ridiculous quantity of descriptive aid. Like I remember clicking on " inside a cinema " or something like that. Then, BAM. im starting to think the idea of the "person who thinks they're better than you because they listen to obscure music which they talk about with elitist glee on how you Wouldn't Get It" is a fake kind of person that hasnt existed for a decade. everyone i know that listens to genuinely weird and unknown music is so excited to share it with others if actual interest is shown. all the concept has served to do is make people who haven't gone deep into obscure music write off anything they're not familiar with due to fear of "pretentiousness"
