One of the best tropes that will never get old:

A younger person and a much older person, who have been through a lot together and see each other as family. Older person views the younger one like their own child, but would never push them into that role out of fear of making them uncomfortable.

Cue younger person introducing someone to the older person by referring to them as their parent- INFRONT OF SAID 'PARENT'. And the older ones' eyes go all sparkly at that moment, but they bite their tongue and act like nothing happened.
