NEW AU TIIIME ~

I think the theories of Jax are an interesting idea for an au... so here's my take! And @cherriisodapop 's cuz she is really helping me along with this

Some info ive scrambled up about him below cut !!

○ Jax is an NPC from a discontinued map dubbed "Chaos Land". He grew up there with his mom and dad, whom of which are a rubber bunny and plushy badger.

○ He's known he was an NPC since a young age. While exploring he found himself glitched beneath the map, finding the models of everyone he knows. Being a child however, he dismisses it, and grows up assuming it's normal. He hardly thought back on it anyway, much too busy with life above.

○ On an adventure where Kaufmo runs into Jax and they're glitched below the map, Kaufmo makes a comment about Jax's general disinterest in the models. Jax explains they don't matter, to which Kaufmo ends up explaining they do. This causes Jax to spiral, because now he knows the truth of the matter. He is not human, but Kaufmo and the others who came on the adventure are.

○ as an almost parallel of Pomni and Gummigoo's scene, Kaufmo suggests he come along to the circus with him. They make a plan to fake Jax's arrival as a human so Caine isn't aware that he is an NPC.

○ Kaufmo and Jax work together to fuck with coding and create a room for Jax at the very end of the hallway of dorms. It captures a very small segment of his home realm. Anyone human who nears it gets this overwhelming feeling of wrongness. He never lets anyone in.

○ he has some features left over from his home, one of which being the ability to pull small things out of thin air. Out of fear of suspicion, he pretends to pull these small objects from his overalls pocket. Another being how he does things in a very,, "wrong" way. Example being in the drawing how he's eating the banana (shame on him for that btw).... kaufmo teaches him ways to be more human, but old habits die hard.

○ he thrives on causing chaos in the circus, pranking and bullying others to get their reactions. He's curious, wanting to know how humans react to things that he finds funny or normal. Human nature and their reactions to just about anything intrigue his curiosity, though he's skilled at hiding this through snide comments and teasing.

○ after Kaufmo's abstraction, he finds himself frustrated. He believes he cannot truely experience what it is to mourn his only friend in the circus, and so he's more prone to unstable moods and outburts.

○ events are very much canon-compliant for both pilot and episode two! after that is still a WIP!

Jax held back laughter as he watched Pomni throw on her oversized hoodie, the sleeves too big for her arms and the ends flopping over her wrists. He never understood why she couldn’t wait until a smaller size came in, but then again he wouldn’t be able to see how cute she looked while wearing it. 

She paused after zipping up her hoodie, raising a brow at him, “What is it?”

“Oh, nothing…shortstack,” he gave her a shit eating grin. 

“I will kick your shins!” she pouted, stomping her foot.

His laughter echoed throughout the hotel room, ruffling her hair, “I’m teasing you songbird, you look cute.”

Her cheeks flushed, “You better. Now, how about our date?”

Jax’s eyes softened, taking her hand in his, “Sounds perfect.”

.

They had stopped by a diner in the mall, Pomni’s disguise giving her that freedom to feel like herself while being with the man she loved. She loved her fans and her career as an idol, but she would be lying if she said she didn’t want to feel normal without the pressing eyes of her audience and paparazzi. 

It’s why she cherished these moments with Jax, he always made her feel like a normal girl living a typical life with her goofy boyfriend. 

After finishing their meal, they continued their trek through the mall until coming across a window of a shop - pausing when they saw what was inside. 

Pomni paled.

Jax wheezed.

It was her new figurine, doing her signature stage pose with a peace sign and a heel lift.  

“Oh my god!” Jax snickered. “You look so cute!”

“Will you keep your voice down?!” she hissed.

“Sorry, sorry,” he wiped away a tear of mirth. “It’s just-it’s an even smaller version of you!”

“Ugh, you’re the worst,” she crossed her arms, shaking her head at him.

“Oh I’m the worst, huh?” he smirked. “Wanna see me be even worse?”

Pomni furrowed her brows in confusion, until her eyes widened in mortification, “Don’t you dare!”

She tried to grab his arm, but Jax was quick enough to dodge her and run into the shop. Pomni was about to run after him, but she knew she’d be risking exposing her identity when seen next to the figurine. So she had no choice but to give Jax a death glare through the window as he purchased the figurine. 

Pomni growled as he walked back out, “Are you pleased with yourself?”

“Very much,” Jax snickered. “Come on, I think this stuff is really impressive. I’m so proud of how far you’ve come in your career. Seeing this stuff just reminds me how incredible you are, songbird.”

She was still pouting, but couldn’t help but blush at his words, “You mean it?”

“Always,” he reached his arm out and pulled her close, kissing her forehead. Pomni relaxed into his hold, letting herself smile. “Although, out of curiosity. How much do you make off this stuff?”

Pomni pulled her head away to glare at him again, “Seriously.”

“I’m genuinely curious!” He said in defense.

Pomni grumbled, “...two billion…monthly.”

“HOLY SHIT!” Jax exclaimed.

“Shut up! Shut up!” Pomni rushed, covering his mouth with her hand.

“DUDE HOW ARE YOU CALM ABOUT THIS?!” He grinned when he grabbed her hands, cackling as she tried to grab at him.

“You’re the worst,” she cried, flopping her face into his chest.”

“I know,” he wrapped his arms around her, resting his chin on her head. “But you love me anyway, right?”

“...yes.”

“Heh, thought so.”

Gangle wandered into Jax’s room, some of her laundry had accidentally been mixed up with his so she wanted to quickly grab it while he was out. She searched through the messy pile on his bed until finally grabbing her red, fluffy cloak. She was about to turn and head out when she gasped at what she saw on his bedside stand.

It was a Pomni figurine! It was a rare item that had been sold out years ago and hadn’t been on the market since! How did Jax get a hold of one?!

Gangle picked it up carefully, running her hand over the plastic hair. She was so caught up in her excitement that she didn’t notice the tall figure entering the room behind her.

“What are you doing in my room?”

Gangle jumped, whipping round when she saw Jax - his eyes darkening. “Oh, Jax!” She squeaked. 

His fists clenched when he saw what she was holding, “Put that down.”

“W-what?” Gangle looked down at the figurine. “Oh, I’m sorry. I just got excited, I never knew you were a fan of Pomni-”

“DON’T SAY HER NAME! LET GO!” He screamed, snatching the figurine out of her hands as Gangle yelped. “DON’T TOUCH MY FUCKING STUFF!”

The ribboned woman sniffed, “I-I’m sorry. I just thought-”

“JUST GET OUT! GET OUT!” He pushed her out of the room, slamming the door behind him.

Gangle whimpered, running down the hall.

In his room, Jax held onto the figurine tight. He couldn’t stop the tears streaming down his face when looking at her familiar face. There was a hole that she had left behind that he couldn’t fill.  He wanted her back. He wanted her back so bad.

He sank to the floor, pressing his forehead against the doll’s. He wanted his songbird back.

Pomni genuinely couldn’t understand Jax, it had been that way ever since they first met. First Jax wanted to fight her for the chaos emeralds and destroy the world, then he wanted to help her in order to restore it as a promise he made to a friend from long ago. It was then she saw a more softer and vulnerable side to Jax, seeing humanity in his eyes for the first time. Then they were back to fighting again, with Jax glaring daggers at her as though she scorned his life.

The same could be said for Jax when thinking about Pomni. She could be facing the end of the world, and yet she still smiles? Without a hint of fear. Not only that, she would hold wisdom and give advice that not even geniuses throughout the year could come up with - then she would say a ridiculous quip with a stupid smirk as though she was unaware of the insight she gave. He just didn’t get her.   

Right now everyone was taking shelter at Queenie’s home - Pomni’s adoptive mother - resting until Caine inevitably attacked them again. He was on the balcony, looking out at the stars. Nothing but comfortable silence.

“Sup Jax!”

Never mind.

He huffed through his nose, turning to see the speedster come up behind him, holding two mugs, “Mom made some hot chocolate, want some?”

“Sure,” he spoke, turning away again.

Pomni walked over to him, handing him the mug, “Nice night huh?”

“I’m aware of the state of the night, thank you Pomni,” Jax deadpanned.

Pomni pursed her lips,” O-kay then. How about I join you then?”

He didn’t get to protest when she rested her back against the balcony, right next to him. Great, just what he needed. 

“Caine put up one hell of a fight today, didn’t he?” Pomni nudged him.

Jax rolled his eyes, “Are you only going to state the obvious Pomni?”

“Jeez, sorry,” Pomni held her hands up in defense. “Just wanted to make small talk.”

“I prefer silence,” Jax stared out at the stars again, taking a sip of his hot chocolate.

“Okay, cool. Silence! I can do silence, I’m like the best at silencing!” Pomni grinned. “Like you need me to be silent? Then I’m your girl. Like seriously, I am the silence master!-”

“ Pomni ,” Jax growled, not in the mood for games.

“Right right! Being quiet! Starting now,” Pomni stood still, staring out into the night sky with Jax.

Jax was hoping the quiet would make things easier, but even her presence somehow made the hairs on his neck stand. Like she was a magnet constantly drawing him in, “I don’t understand you.”

“So much for being quiet,” Pomni murmured cheekily into her mug.

Jax glared at her, ignoring the comment, “I’ve seen people doubt you and call you a freak, have the world beat down on you again and again yet you always have faith to hold onto and spread to others. Then the next moment, you’re doing something dumb like see how fast you can run while doing a handstand?!?!”

Pomni snickered, “Hey I forgot about that, thanks for reminding me.”

“I just…” Jax pinched his nose, breathing slowly. “How are you so happy?”

“Heh, you really think it’s that easy for me,” Pomni gripped her mug. “You’re right, the world’s been cruel to me. Yet the weight of it is still on my shoulders. But I know that there are still people out there that believe in a better future. I bury down the bad stuff and help them, to let them know there’s a better tomorrow. If I don’t, then who will? And the stupid stuff I do? Well, everybody needs to distract themselves from fear somehow.”

Jax paused, staring at her, “You’re scared.”

Pomni huffed a laugh, it was dry and humourless, “All the time. Then again, you confuse me too. One minute you’re alright working with me. The next you’re chasing me downtown over a bad pun.”

Jax hummed, not noticing he was inching closer to her, “I could find it easier to be more pleasant to you if I understood you a bit more.”

“Well now you do, and now…” Pomni drew the word out a bit.

“I believe…you’re like me,” Jax told her. “You have a lot of pain built up and it’s a mess. So you deal with it the best you can. The bad memories keep trying to press up in front, so you have to be stronger than that. Even when it hurts. And you hate being alone, but you don’t want to infect anyone else with the pain you feel.”

“Yeah,” Pomni nodded. “I’m grateful for my friends, but I feel guilty for wanting to push them away sometimes. Cause I know they help me a lot. Eventually I find it in myself to keep myself open to them, it helps me feel lighter and be able to breathe again.”

“I don’t think I’m ready for that big of a step,” Jax admitted, the familiar vulnerability showing up again.

Pomni only hoped it wouldn’t vanish again so soon, “Well…how about just starting with me for now? I want to know more about the Jax that I haven’t seen much of.”

Jax turned to her, the same sincerity in her eyes again. The sincerity she gave to others when they needed help, despite the storm of a painful past behind her own smile. “Only if you promise to do the same for me…and less puns.”

“Oof, I’ll try,” Pomni giggled. “But now you know where it comes from.”

“Hmp, whatever,” Jax huffed. “Deal?”

Pomnis smiles slowly, for once she believed there was progress between the two of them, “Deal.”
