¿Armando o Michel?

¿Con quién se debería haber quedado Betty?

Este segundo texto improvisado estará dedicado a responder a esta pregunta según mi parecer. El planteo surge a partir de la opinión bastante popular de que Beatriz Pinzón Solano debería haberse quedado con notre ami francés en vez de Armani Mendoza.

He visto que simplifican los personajes de ambos - sobre todo el de Armando, abstrayendo sus características a lo más básico y superficial que simplemente tiene como resultado una conclusión errónea a mi ver. Esto es, concluir que Michel era el indicado para Betty cuando realmente no conocemos mucho de su persona, solamente porque Armando tiene ciertas características que en la mentalidad de hoy en día molestan. Por ejemplo, que se muestre celoso en varias ocasiones. Hoy en día, los celos, especialmente en el hombre (porque en la mujer se hacen más "comunes"), son condenados bajo la definición de tóxico y listo, es un tipo que no quieres tener cerca por eso. Armando actualmente es el típico tóxico, no hay aparentemente nada que discutirle a eso. Pero, ejem, sí que lo hay.

Empecemos por dejar claro que antes de que la protagonista apareciera en la vida del presidente de Ecomoda, él estaba bastante descarrilado. Se había comprometido con Marcela, una mujer por quien sentía cariño pero realmente no la amaba por lo que le era inmensamente infiel. Había presumido de unas metas que no analizó bien antes, su orgullo y vanidad eran demasiado importantes para él y esta combinación resultó en errores, uno tras otro. Vivía en un ambiente de ostentación, riqueza, belleza y superficialidad. Rodeado de modelos altamente cotizadas, con la tentación constantemente en su cara pero sin poder sentir nada profundo con nadie. Cuando Betty aparece en su empresa, él la recibe y de a poco va cayendo en todo el talento que ella tiene y cuánto valor conlleva contar con una persona como ella al lado. No obstante, el contraste entre ella y las demás mujeres del ámbito en el que él se movía era por demás complicado de desarmar, ¿cómo le quitas a alguien una mentalidad que se ha forjado por tanto tiempo? Finalmente lo logra, aunque evidentemente le lleva su tiempo. Quizás Michel no tenía todo esto contexto sobre él, no lo sabemos porque no se ahonda mucho en su historia, sólo podemos decir que es francés y que hace un par de años que vive en Colombia, enamorado de Cartagena. Pero eso es todo. Sin embargo, eso es lo que más tiene importancia en el personaje de Armando. Que sufre un cambio estructural, que va desenredando muchos de sus nudos de a poco y esto es desencadenado en parte por la misma Betty.

Es muy fácil decir que se debería haber quedado con Michel cuando te lo muestran un par de capítulos, no lo conoces mucho y todo lo que se revela de él es superficial e idealizado. Nunca lo vemos cometer un error al francés, siempre actúa perfectamente pero su participación es escasa. Incluso, le presenta una oferta invaluable sólo para que la historia nos demuestre que Michel podría haberle ofrecido el paraíso a ella pero esto jamás se hubiera comparado a todo lo que Armando significaba para la protagonista. Porque a pesar de lo bello que la habrían pasado en Cartagena, de fiesta y cerca del mar, todo lo que quieras, Armando como tal había llegado más allá de todo eso. Esto porque el hijo de los Mendoza no había sido el único en cambiar, sino que Betty también lo había hecho y en parte había sido gracias a él.

Armando es quien ayuda a Beatriz a tener un cambio estructural también, a cambiar su actitud ante la vida, a redescubrir su sexualidad, a tener más fuerzas que antes... Michel por otro lado, es quien observa un poco de todo ese proceso, es el espectador pero de una parte, ni siquiera de su totalidad. Una desventaja con la que corre Michel Doinel es que Betty no llega a tener mucho contacto con él más que un abrazo y gratificantes momentos. En cambio, Armando implica todo lo demás.

¿Qué mejor que estar acompañada de alguien que te ha ayudado a crecer y que tú también lo hayas hecho con él? Me parece que el final para ambos es el más adecuado. Armando empieza siendo el más "defectuoso" de los dos y eso se nota. De todas formas, nunca es un despiadado sin remordimientos como su mejor amigo. Es débil de carácter, lo que lo lleva a cometer graves errores pero su trato no es comparable a lo que hacen otros personajes constantemente con Betty, quienes ni siquiera se dan cuenta de lo que están haciendo mal.

Aparte, tengamos en cuenta que una de las cosas que más le dolió al moscorrofio es que Armando haya sentido asco por ella en la intimidad y que solamente lo hubiera hecho para salvar su empresa. Sabemos que Armando no la veía bonita ni alguien a quien deseara besar precisamente pero también sabemos que de a poco sus prejuicios se van soltando hasta buscar sus besos activamente incluso y que, cuando hacen el amor, nunca habla de esto como algo que le diera asco ni nada por el estilo, sino más bien con ternura y culpa. Quien dice esto es Mario Calderón, un caso completamente aparte. Con respecto a que su motivación haya sido la de salvar al empresa es verdad, así comienza pero poco después se desvirtúa todo y ya ni siquiera le importa esto.

Por otro lado, la personalidad de Armando no vuelve a ser la misma de antes, excepto en lo que gritarle a los empleados respecta. Pero no repite el trato que le tenía a Marcela y a las demás mujeres con Betty o Alejandra Zing. Cambia su forma de abordar a la mujer, va formando un nuevo respeto que antes no tenía (por ejemplo, no habla del cuerpo de Betty como sí lo hacía de todas las mujeres con las que se acostaba antes, hace respetar a Alejandra Zing frente a la forma lasciva que tiene su amigo de hablar de ella). Nunca le es infiel a Betty, ni la maltrata (eso se puede ver en la secuela llamada Ecomoda) y su vida se endereza casi que por completo.

¿Es Armando tóxico? Habría que definir bien qué es ser tóxico, porque cada uno entiende cosas distintas. Pero podemos empezar por cosas que universalmente están mal, por ejemplo espiar a Betty (que lo hace un par de veces y que también lo hace Marcela, de hecho Beatriz también escucha conversaciones privadas y descubre la carta abriendo un paquete que no era para ella - es decir el espionaje es una herramienta de la novela para que los personajes se enteren de cosas así que es algo que en sí mismo haría tóxicos a todos los que forman parte de ésta), perseguirla (que si mal no recuerdo lo hace cuando ella vuelve de Cartagena y es porque quiere contarle su verdad y que ella realmente lo escuche, cosa que nunca logra porque no le cree, recién cuando Marcela habla con ella es que entiende esto, pero vamos, que no es un perseguirla por ser acosador no más, sino porque siente que le debe una explicación sincera y que ella no quiere recibir), leer su diario íntimo (obviamente está mal aunque al momento de leerlo no lo hace con picardía o desconsideración, de hecho todo lo contrario, cada página le duele y le sirve para dimensionar el daño que le causó a su Betty), pelear con Nicolás Mora porque para él se estaba aprovechando de ella - lo cual implicaba que su empresa también estaba en peligro puesto que pensaba que quería convencer a Beatriz de robársela y que solo "la estaba enamorando" por eso, no recuerdo más cosas pero si hay más las agregaré. Cuestión que si tenemos todo esto en cuenta en un análisis rápido podríamos decir sí, che, Armando es un culiado re tóxico pero si realmente lo sopesamos, cada cosa tiene un motivo y la maldad no es su motor para hacer las cosas. Ni siquiera la posesión de Betty lo es, o eso creo yo cuando veo la forma en que realiza estas acciones cuestionables.

De todas formas, todas estas cualidades negativas de Armando sirven a la trama y es necesario que sea alguien defectuoso para que la historia tenga eso que la haga interesante. Al mismo tiempo que es necesario que evolucione para que nosotros podamos decir que merece a la protagonista. Si Armando se hubiera construido como un Michel más, vaya bodrio. Aparte de que no podría existir alguien perfecto como el francés, en algún momento tendríamos que haberlo visto ese lado sucio a él y en ese caso, este análisis hubiera tenido más valor y hubiera sido más difícil de escribir.

First off their interactions are funny (and if a ship can’t be funny I generally don’t care about it) but they’re not without the possibility for serious depth between them, like when they talked about Saitama’s loneliness and goals for the future

Also I find their history of Saitama saving King before either of them were pro heroes to be romantic..little did they know…….. 

I feel like King’s the character that understands Saitama best out of everyone (and obviously Sai is the same about King with knowing his secret) like he respects and admires Sai’s strength without putting him on a pedestal, and he recognizes Sai’s faults without losing respect for him. King knows where they both are in the world and what Saitama can do but they’re still able to be friends and have fun together

when I saw it I thought “what since when is he enthusiastic” and maybe it’s just an off translation but also.. maybe.. he’s enthusiastic when he’s around king so king’s impression of him is an upbeat guy.. cause   hes happy around king))

and while I know totally well none of this is like “so they MUST be dating” this is all stuff I really like in ships! I like characters who enjoy each others company and make each other better people by being together.. sai’s getting out of his comfort zone with king and king is becoming braver with sai’s support.. I love it

their canon relationship makes a really good setup for a slow burn thing yknow.. it’s not like it’ll happen but if it DID it could feel really natural. and for impatient people like me there’s always sudden friends w benefits developments for fic stuff.

Speaking of fic, I also just really like writing for king, and I’m a fandom bicycle type of person so saitama has to be there, so I naturally really like writing kingtama even if I wasn’t as into the ship as I am. lol
