"My name, Pan... originally it meant rustic. Did you know that? But over time it has come to mean all.

"The spirit of the wild must pass to all of you now. Remake the wild, a little at a time, each in your own corner of the world. You cannot wait for anyone else, even a god, to do that for you."

~Percy Jackson and the battle of the labyrinth

When i reread pjo in preparation for the chalice (and the movies which i have not watched oop), this scene gave me immense goosebumps... I guess all those years of growth and realisation of how much i care about the environment just made me love this scene so much when i once again discovered it.

I absolutely love the way Rick wove this scene into a YA series which would reach so many young minds. Perhaps the message this little pocket of slow paced plot could be lost amidst all the fast paced battle and stuff (like it did when i first read pjo when i was 13), but i know that there's at least one kid out there who has been impacted by it to make a difference, to remake the wild, a little at a time, in their own corner of the world. And that's just so inspiring for me, an art amateur who seeks to make a difference.

I also screamed at that little detail when Annabeth said "this (Pan's cave) is better than any building", which speaks so much about herself as an architect and how nature can inspire even those who seek to create something man made. And Rachel's presence as a mortal, with her father being a real estate mammoth or smth... All these representations using young kids AAAAAAAAAAAA my heart can't take it-

And so i made the most ambitious ink illustration of my life so far to mark this scene I love so much — almost no references used! (Look I'm still an art baby, this is a massive feat for me heheh)

best brownies in the known universe (at least, according to my grandma)

some year and a half ago when i was getting ready to move out i combed through all the family recipes that lay lost to time and one of the ones that i found was my grandmas brownie recipe. idk where she got it from (nor can i ask cause she has dementia) and its a printed out email she sent to my mom in june 2000. but by george these the best brownies i have ever tasted. would she be pleased that i am sharing this recipe with my vast following? absolutely.

YOU WILL NEED:

5 tablespoons butter (unsalted) 1 ounce unsweetened baking chocolate (or as much as your heart desires) 2/3 cup unsweetened good cocoa powder 1 cup sugar (white) (superfine preferred, normal works fine) 1 cup sifted white flour (can use gluten free) 1/2 teaspoon baking powder as much cinnamon as your heart desires (your heart needs to desire at least some cinnamon. its essential to the recipe) 3 egg whites 1 egg splash of vanilla extract (again, non negotiable step!)

preheat your oven to 325 degrees. grease a square baking pan (9x9 preferably).

in a small saucepan over medium heat melt the butter and baking chocolate. while that is melting, sift together the flour, baking powder and cinnamon into a small bowl. once the butter and chocolate is done melting add the cocoa powder and cook it together for 1 minute. add in the sugar and stir. it will get very thick. this is correct.

set that aside to cool. while thats cooling take a large bowl and put in your egg whites, egg and vanilla. beat it up with preferably a whisk but you can use a fork if youre fresh out of whisks. once the chocolate is cool enough to not scramble your eggs dump it in the eggs and mix it together. add the flour in gradually and keep mixing until its smooth and happy.

spread into your greased baking pan. put it in the oven for EXACLTLY 18 MINUTES. very crucial step. they will come out slightly under done. that is what we want. as they cool they will continue to cook in the pan. we dont want them to get hard and sad. they are not good when they are hard and sad. do not overbake them. you will be sad.

slice them up and as the official last step on the original recipe says: EAT ENJOY AND MAKE MORE! (theyre very good with mint chocolate chip ice cream)

In the same vibe as Percy choking Akhlys, may I suggest :

Nico causing wounds to necrotize. Even from a small scratch on your finger, it spreads so fast your only hope is an amputation asap.

Jason holding the air still in your lungs. You're not dying because you don't have air, but because you can't get it out and are literally choking.

Hazel controlling stones in jewelries. Imagine getting chocked by your necklace, your finger being sectioned by your ring, being handcuffed by your bracelets, your head being crushed between your earrings...

Thalia manipulating the electricity in your body. Causing your nervous system to move in certain ways, or just shutting down your brain activity.

The big 3 are terrifying, and I wish we would've seen them (others than Percy) being more op. Cmon Rick, show us reasons the gods are afraid of them !

btw you will miss this in 5 or 10 years. memory will smooth these circumstances down like a river stone, and you will find yourself longing for a shade of light or a moment of this particular innocence. you don't know about what happens next, and one day that will be the most alluring thing of all. don't leave it all for nostalgia. have a nice night now, whatever night it happens to be.

Ocean beaches

Don’t look for whatever just touched your foot. Don’t dive down to find it. That’s the chance it’s waiting for.

Never turn your back to the tide.

Don’t swim on the new moon. The moon’s light is the only thing keeping you safe.

Ignore the sounds of the birds. They will get louder as you ignore them, but if you go to them, they expect something in return.

Only look down to your feet, and never deeper than you need to. The deep shadows are not yours to worry about.

The ocean listens to you, too. She knows things.

Do not remove shells or rocks you find. They carry souls with them, and they will return to the ocean one way or another.

Leave no trace of yourself at the beach. She covers your footprints for a reason.

Do not leave abandoned sand castles. They were not built by children. The animals passing between worlds will not forgive you for the obstructions in their path.

Never move a rock bigger than your hand. Gently shift, but always place exactly as you found it. The creatures underneath know where they belong, and they can find where you belong, too.

I don’t know who made this artwork, but I feel need to share it since this is an incredibly important and dire situation! Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Nova & Snowguard all speak the truth here! Call for a ceasefire immediately! Free Palestine and end the Israeli apartheid & genocide in Gaza now! Palestinian rights are human rights and collective punishment is a war crime!

I Don’t Know Who Made This Artwork, But I Feel Need To Share It Since This Is An Incredibly Important

Butterflies feeding off the tears of turtles in the Amazon. This is uncommon for the butterflies as minerals such as salt can be scarce in certain regions, so the turtles salty tears give the butterflies the nutrients they need for survival. Photog. Jeff Cremer
