My favorite genre of scene with the Straw hats is when they're all frightened they're going to get killed by a big big scary monster and Luffy looks at the creature like he's gonna befriend a tiny cute beetle
Very shmall
In the same vibe as Percy choking Akhlys, may I suggest :
Nico causing wounds to necrotize. Even from a small scratch on your finger, it spreads so fast your only hope is an amputation asap.
Jason holding the air still in your lungs. You're not dying because you don't have air, but because you can't get it out and are literally choking.
Hazel controlling stones in jewelries. Imagine getting chocked by your necklace, your finger being sectioned by your ring, being handcuffed by your bracelets, your head being crushed between your earrings...
Thalia manipulating the electricity in your body. Causing your nervous system to move in certain ways, or just shutting down your brain activity.
The big 3 are terrifying, and I wish we would've seen them (others than Percy) being more op. Cmon Rick, show us reasons the gods are afraid of them !
I carry a container full of stars in my pocket.
I hand them out to cashiers as the card processes. Like a little crow handing out shinies. Never know who needs a star to make their day.
Once while in the mall, I passed a perfume counter with a girl with sad eyes. I paused. No transaction. No reason to stop to interact, but those dark sad eyes.
I walk back and hold out the container, tiny knickknacks tinkling in the motion.
“Hello, would you like a star?”. It’s awkward. But very little grace is needed to offer something pretty and shiny.
“Why?” Her response is unexpected. Intense. Shocked. Staring with import at the container.
“Just a cute thing I do. Never know who needs a star.”
I feel sheepish. Usually it’s a quick interaction, a star offered as a receipt is passed. Too quick to process the idiosyncrasy of the moment. Too sudden to not be excited for a cheap little star made out of stone.
“My best friend just died.”
Her face is lowered, sad eyes looking at the stars in the myriad of hues.
“She had an entire sleeve of stars. Tattooed all up her arm…”. She traced an invisible path on her skin with delicate fingers.
She looked at those stars and the strange giver with significance. She chose her star of onyx and asked for a hug, happily given.
Coincidence. Miracle. Serendipity. Mundane magic. Whatever it was.
You never know who needs a star.
some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.
it’s sad there is not more “Good Uncle Zeus,” fanfictions out there.
Like, Zeus just being tired and growing more gray hairs by the minute because his nephew refuses to accept god-hood and just makes more of a mess by angering gods and becoming way to powerful.
He’s just so tired, “Poseidon, brother, I do not beg, nor do I lower myself like this, but this is a one time exception that you shall never speak of again.” He would start, “if you do not get that child of yours and give him immortality, I am going to go INSANE.”
He would take a deep breath and give Poseidon the nastiest look, one that you would give your sibling who annoys you to no end, “I’m so close to plucking that spawn up and throwing him to Hades.”
He would have literal gray hairs, as if Percy had just aged him by existing. Percy (if he knew) would find the whole thing hilarious and refuse immortality just to piss Zeus off.
He would give Poseidon a fake smile and disappear moments later, leaving Poseidon reeling from the interaction, wondering if that had just happened or if he was going insane.
