Prompt 22: Thin Ice Characters: Che'nya, Riddle, Trey -------------------------------------------- "Are you sure the ice is thick enough Che'nya?" Riddle was rather timid. While the thought of walking across the lake sounded...kind of? nice, he had no basis as to how thick the ice should be if it was going to sustain their weight. Che'nya's head bobbed over his shoulder, grinning. "Course it is! Wouldn't want nya fallin' in meow would we? 'Sides, I was just out here the other day. Everything's fiiiiine." Trey just shook his head a bit and sighed, a cocky smile on his face as he pushed up his glasses. "If you're so confident Che'nya, you should let us see the rest of you so you can walk out onto the ice."
Che'nya's face dropped just for a moment, but Riddle missed it as he was busy trying to get a website pulled up to check if this lake was recommended for skating- or how to test if a body of water was thick enough to walk across. "Don'tchya trust me Trey? After all this time we've known each other?" Che'nya attempted to pull the biggest begging eyes he could muster, only to squawk indignantly when Trey gently shoved his face away. "For most things, yes. But as of right now? Absolutely not." Riddle wordlessly started searching for something along the edge of the lake, leaving the two older boys to bicker. "BETREYAL! JAIL, JAIL FOR A THOUSAND YEARS FOR YOUUUUU" Che'nya yowled as Trey waited for Riddle's back to be turned to give Che'nya a light shove onto the ice. It forced Che'nya to come into full visibility, gangly limbs struggling to find balance before succeeding, standing frozen in place on the shallowest bit of the lake trying to process the fact he had not fallen. "Oh you're fine, see? The ice is holding your weight just fine." Trey gave him a shit eating smile that Che'nya took as a challenge. The cat placed his hands behind his head and shrugged nonchalantly as he started to walk around a bit on the ice. His ear flicked a bit, trying to hide the fact he could very clearly hear the ice crackling underneath him, but it was too quiet for Trey and Riddle. "See? It's all good. Nyathing to worry about! Trey, why don'tchya come on out here? If it can hold me it can hold you!" Trey shook his head. "First of all, I'm heavier than you, secondly, I think Riddle is conducting his own test to make sure the ice can hold all three of us, right?" Trey turned to Riddle, giving him a bit of a knowing smile as the redhead hefted a decently sized rock. "Yes, I am." Che'nya's eyes widened a bit at Riddle's shit eating grin as he hurled the rock at the ice he was standing on. Che'nya reacted in time to float, but his tail was not spared the exposure to the ice cold water flicking up and barely getting him wet. He yowled as if his entire body had just slipped into the water beneath him though, quickly returning to shore where his friends were laughing at him. He flicked his tail indignantly, but didn't get any water on Trey or Riddle. "You guys!!! What if I had fallen in??? You're so mean!" Che'nya whined, puffing out his tail and holding it to him a little bit. "What, did you not trust your cat-like reflexes?" "You were the one who said there was nothing to worry about." The boys spoke nearly at the same time, making Che'nya make a fake offended sound as the other two chuckled again. "Next time I'm shoving Trey onto the ice." "I'd like to see you try."
