Israeli forces drove bulldozers through Sheikh Shaban cemetery in the al-Saha neighborhood in eastern Gaza. Graves were destroyed, and already-buried bodies were exhumed, crushed and mutilated.

Al Jazeera journalist Ismail al-Ghoul reported that, “Parts of the dead bodies, including those of children, are clearly visible around the area.”

Prior to the war, Palestinian families lived in Sheikh Shaban cemetery because of the lack of available housing in the Gaza
Strip. Gaza is among the smallest and most densely populated cities in the world.

There has been little space, or time, for families to have funerals - or even grieve - during Israel’s bombardment. Some
hospitals have been forced to bury people before their relatives could identify them because there’s not enough space in the morgues to keep them.

Scared parents scrawl children’s names on their arms and legs in the hopes they will at least be identified after they die.

In addition to relentless bombing, Israel has blocked food, water, fuel and electricity in the Gaza Strip. As of publishing, over 20,000 people have been killed. 70% of them are women and children.

AbdulRahman AlZaghal, a 17-year-old Palestinian boy, is the youngest in the exchange hostage deal.

AbdulRahman was arrested by Israeli forces in August 2023, after being shot 30 times in the head and pelvis. He was in a coma for a week and underwent several surgeries to repair his skull and spine.
