Many animated shows lately have been canceled prematurely due to corporate interference, budget cuts, or higher up dealings. Which at least for me, has left me feeling frustrated and discouraged when it comes to consuming entertainment. And at first, hearing that The Bad Batch was already in its final season after just two seasons, immediately reignited a lot of those feelings.
But I want to remind everyone that it is not being canceled. Its ending, but it's by the choice of the creative team. I feel like too often shows will either fall into two categories. Either they are canceled way too soon, or they are kept alive well after their expiration date. And both scenarios are not ideal.
While its fun to have your favorite show go on indefinitely, it will one way or another get to a point where it feels directionless, unmotivated, or stale. Typically writing goes down the toilet, actors leave, and characters aren't interesting anymore. (*ahem* The Mandalorian)
If the creators of this show feel like they can tell the rest of the Batch’s story in one season, then I trust them. I want a good ending for these characters, I want one that is not rushed or slapped together. Its okay for things to end. I just want it to be given the time and effort they deserve.
And lets be real, this is Star Wars we are talking about. Characters (especially beloved characters) are hardly ever gone permanently. Pretty much every “main” character has come back in another show. So even with the end of this series on the horizon, I highly doubt it will be the end of these characters. So keep that in mind if you find yourself spiraling.
Side Note:
I think most of us have seen the leaked teaser, but remember! Star Wars is pretty crafty with their trailers. For season 2 the majority of the trailer was made up from the first 6ish episodes! I’m predicting they save Cross and Omega within the first couple episodes, Tech will probably come back either early - mid season and then who knows what we will be getting at the very end. I remember hearing, I think Dee Bradly Cooper say that the show is about The Batch at its core. And given we didn't really get to see everyone in action together during season 2. I'm assuming we are building up to have ALL SIX of them together fighting a big ol battle at the end of the show. Whatever I'm sure they do, it will be great!
I had a dream last night that Tech was alive, but captured by the enemy and brainwashed into thinking he was a woman called Annilise
Noy Leyb plants a fake paper into a school book for a propaganda video. The paper has 8 folds, while the one before and after does not have any. It is written in English, and the spoken language of the people there is Arabic.
I like the bit where the first two pages (clearly fresh out of the photocopier) have a shade of white lighter than the slightly off-white colouring of the rest of the pages.
C+ for effort.
A+ for stupidity.
F for overall performance.
Next time you see a video of a child dying remember this, the war could have be stopped but US vetoed this.

I hc that Sang-woo is afraid of heights. He looked soooo shaken up before tug of war and you can see the same fear in his face during the tile game.
SCREAMING???? /VPOS
ANON, I LOVE THIS HC SO MUCH!!!! i went back to rewatch clips and wow it really does add something more!!!!
first, some screenshots from tug-of-war
persistent looking up, i'm not good at reading facial expressions but to me that reads as distressed. especially with the mouth hung slightly open.
i also noticed he's very trembly/jumpy any time there's a sudden movement (especially in the elevator) which is fair but it seems to be slightly elevated? or maybe i'm overthinking?
looking down. this time he seems genuinely shaken up.
SOMETHING THAT CROSSED MY MIND WITH THIS HEADCANON TOO. SANG-WOO'S FACIAL EXPRESSION CAN BE READ AS MORE HERE. THIS ADDS ANOTHER LAYER OF COMPLEXITY AND EMOTIONALNESS TO THIS PARTICULAR SCENE.
to me, adding this headcanon into things, internally he's screaming "hyung. im scared. im putting my life into your hands right now and im trusting you and i'm praying you won't make me regret it." sang-woo is trusting that gi-hun will be the strong leader (as il-nam said, "if the leader shows signs of weakness, then the game is already over") and putting his life into gi-hun's hands.
the fact that he's, once again, not leading, shows that he's putting so much trust into gi-hun's hands despite being absolutely terrified, trusting that he's the proper leader who will aid him to not get killed in what he could consider the worst way possible- falling to his death.
i think this is one of three details that show sang-woo does not consider himself better than gi-hun, nor anybody else in this place. he's not some pompous, shit he hates himself, we've seen this multiple times throughout the show. he respects gi-hun, he trusts gi-hun here, and if you add in the hc that he's afraid of heights and literally terrified, it makes things even stronger. to me, at least.
anyways. mini-ramble over
sang-woo's movements definitely get more erratic. you can see him visibly panicking more and more, his feet are sliding much more than the others, he just looks generally distressed.

now for the glass bridge!!
expression is hard to read but he definitely doesn't look mentally good here. he's either confused or internally thinking "shit." or both.
this might just be overanalysis but sang-woo being extremely pessimistic about the glass bridge in general reads off to me as possible cognitive distortions. wow! anxiety!

THANK YOU FOR THIS WONDERFUL ASK ANON. YOU HAVE OPENED MY EYES GREATLY.
