The “Real” Moon Theatre!

Look familiar?

There are many old theatres in the heart of downtown Los Angeles in the historic Theatre District, but this one, the Los Angeles Theatre, stands out as looking very much like Illumination’s Moon Theatre from Sing! (The Hyperion Theater in Disney’s California Adventure looks a lot like Moon Theatre as well but the Los Angeles was the “original” as it was used as a basis for the Hyperion.)

And if the uncanny similarities of the beautiful architecture outside wasn’t enough, just look at the gorgeous French Baroque interior from the lobby out through the auditorium and onto the stage.

And for your reading pleasure, do a search on the history of the Los Angeles Theatre and the history of DTLA theatres in general. (For some reason this post won’t show up when I add hyperlinks to certain articles so I will leave the search up to you.)

These similarities makes sense, since the movie is based in California. (Oh, excuse me, Calatonia.)

California: the inspiration behind the set design

Regarding the set design, director Garth Jennings stated on The Making of Sing (in the “Extras” on the DVD): “We went for a California-style city. I think it’s kind of a mash between San Francisco, Los Angeles, with some Miami colour schemes thrown in there just to sort of keep it delicious. We had those influences and then just infused all that into our set designs.”

Speaking of San Francisco, what does SFJ Bank stand for: ?

And lets not forget where Eddie lives (in an LA-style mansion with a pool, probably in some expensive neighborhood like Bel Air or Brentwood? That’s just my opinion)… also where Nana Noodleman lives (looks like somewhere in the Palisades or Malibu overlooking the Pacific Ocean):

I’m  not saying the Los Angeles Theatre is the inspiration behind Moon Theatre, since this was never quoted or confirmed by the makers of Sing. And it’s true that many historical theatres have exquisite European-style interior. But considering the architecture and the setting, it’s something to think about, isn’t it?

I have got proboscis monkey on the brain these days!!!! So I’m posting this other Sing 2 oc that I made awhile back.

Part 2 of my fic!

Summary:

Odalys has been practicing ballet all week and manages to elicit praise from the demanding Klaus Kickenklober. At the moment that he appears impressed by her skills, however, she gets dragged into her friends’ antics and punishment.

“Empty your pocket,” Klaus commanded. Odalys reached into her right pocket and pulled out Breck’s rubber band ball. Klaus held out his hand, and she gave it to him. His fingers closed around the ball. He glowered at her but said nothing for a few moments, as though awaiting an explanation. 

“Um, that’s not mine,” she began. 

“Nonsense!” he exclaimed.

“The cleaning supplies are in the janitor’s closet,” began Klaus. “You will scrub the shower, clean the toilet, wipe down the sink and mirror, take out the trash, and sweep and mop the floor. And when you are finished, you two,” he pointed to Breck and Mortimer, “will come to my bureau immediately to assist me with office tasks.”

“Yes, Mr. Kickenklober,” they all said. The dance instructor turned and walked briskly in the direction of the small room that served as his office. He unlocked the door, opened it, and entered, closing the door behind him. 

“Office tasks?” Breck asked. 

“Looks like Klaus lost another secretary,” Mortimer remarked.

That dance teacher in Sing 2 befuddles me. He threw Johnny, who has absolutely zero ballet experience, into some decently difficult ballet dance moves with absolutely zero training. Ballet takes years of practice, Johnny had no hope of just jumping into doing that and he's lucky he didn't get seriously hurt.

After weeks of searching in my city I couldn't find the McDonald's Darius figure 💔

But...

"AAAAAAAHHHHH!! 🩷✨ I just bought the 3D file of a Darius figure and already sent it to be printed with a friend. I'm SO excited! 🩷😭✨ I can't believe I'll soon have Darius in my hands, and on top of that I'm going to paint it 🩷✨

My husband has material from his Warhammer figures , so I'm going to steal his paints and ask him for help to make it look amazing. I can't wait to see it finished! 😭✨
