Two years ago on the 28th of February two trains collided on the railway that connects Greece’s biggest cities, resulting in the biggest train accident in European history and in the death of 57 college students who were returning home from the carnival holidays.
The accident was a result of “human error” because the current government and many governments before it have failed to fund the railways and make them automated.
To this day, the state refuses to take any meaningful accountability. If anything, they are trying their best to silence anyone who refuses to move on, including the grieving families.
This was not an accident but an act of state negligence. This was a crime. There is blood on the government’s hands.
57 students either burned alive, got blown up, chopped to pieces, or died from the lack of oxygen and inability to escape the ruins. They got delivered to their parents in bags, or not at all. The train is still not automated but that’s not why I’m writing this.
Last week, audio recordings from when the students tried to call 112 were released to the public. Children actively dying, screaming, begging for air. It goes on for minutes. No help came in time.
There was a protest today almost in every big city and island. More than 40 thousand people marched in Athens. Primarily students.
They’re arresting them. They are breaking photographers’ equipment. They are gassing them. They are gassing students who are mourning their friends, their families, their peers.
This is the kind of country we are. it makes me sick.
And you should know about it.
Good for him
