When I started this tumblr I made the private decision to only post about my fics and nothing else. I said it would be the one space where I’d be “selfish,” the one place where it’ll be about the joy of my hobby and nothing else.
But over the past few days, I’ve watched trans creators who thought they were safe in this fandom come to the stark and heartbreaking realization that they’re not. And that’s emblematic of so many marginalized groups realizing that the thin veneer of safety that they thought they had in the world is being ripped apart at a terrifying pace.
Fanfic, at its best, is an anticapitalist, anti conformist, transformative, radically accepting, and imaginative art form, but that’s only true if the people within it are equally committed to that ethos and each other.
In other words, practice what you preach and don’t be an asshole.
These Jezebel commenters are right and they should say it
I guess the real glorious evolution was the homoerotic yearning we made along the way
Hi ito, was rereading some of your fics today and got so much nostalgia from when I first read them, which reminded me of how lovely and amazing your fics are and just wanted to let you know that they've genuinely shaped and impacted the way I am (to a very extensive degree may I add). Which led me to wonder: Do you have any of those? Like, do you have any fics that have rewired your brain or changed your life in any way? It would be very interesting yo know!
Anyways, again I love love your fics, they'll forever hold a space in my heart, hope you have a good day :)!
I'm sick today and was dying in bed when I read this, but it kind of felt like being revived in a video game. I'm now dressed, fed, and on my laptop. The miracles of people being incredibly nice to me.
Honstly though this is such a lovely thing for you to say. I can only hope that the thing I've chosen to do for a lifetime (making art in many forms) actually impacts people :D
I do in fact, have many of those! Some of them are bookmarked on my page and some aren't but here's a few that come to mind:
first love/ late spring by citiboys: obviously. i have gushed about this fic so many times, I've grown trite and predictable. It was like unpaid therapy. It has influenced all of my jjk works and the very way I think about relationships in real life.
Choke by valleykey: truly rewrired the way I think about the art of fics. the medium in general you know? It's truly limitless, the way traditional publishing won't ever be, and that's so wonderful. I'm lucky enough that Key is my friend now, and I get to gush to xex about xir work.
On the process of being unmade by kinematics: funnily enough, key recommended me one of their works first,, but it's this one that blew my fucking brains off. The amount of class consciousness and politics and understanding of trauma this person manages to inject their stuff with is unreal.
11:53 by bokeae: I must have talked about this before. Like, there's no way. This fic shot 16year-old-me in the head. It's so fucked and so spectacular and I can't believe it's only 20k words but manages to take me on a journey that literally rips the fabric of space and time. Largely the inspiration behind "F#A# Infinity."
most of user Gravitational's works: they have truly mastered purple prose. I've studied their style so many times. I've read and re-read all of their jjk works. I cannot comprehend the artistry with which they weave emotions into words. I aspire to write like them one day.
and last but definetely not least: I Was Screaming Your Name Through The Radio, by ElectricSplatters: call me basic, I call me a fan of the classics, okay? Compared to the rest of this list, this fic is the most played-safe in terms of style but my godddddd does this person know what good miscommunication means. It's in the way they make me understand why the characters can't say these things to each other, even though they feel it to a catastrophic extent. It's in how their dynamic visibly matures on page, as they grow older. I don't think I'd be off if I said this fic is what shapped most people's understanding of skk outside of canon.
i tried to include a variety of stuff in terms of fandoms and ships in case anyone wants to take a dive but these are like...A key to the fucked up basement that is my head. Sun leaks through the broken windows every once in a while.
have an amazing day and thank you for making mine :D
