i don't like the growing opinion that people are being 'too hard' on deku for his failing to save shigaraki.

i've seen quite a few people complaining that a lot of the bnha-critical crowd are being too mean to deku for getting tomura killed, arguing that it isn't really his fault, and that hes a 16 year old child soldier who's been failed by almost every adult in his life, why should we be putting all of this on his shoulders? hes just a kid after all?

and the truth is, they're right. deku IS a 16 year old boy whos had the fate of the world thrust on his shoulders. but the story itself just plainly refuses to acknowledge this.

the narrative doesn't acknowledge how fucked up having a school that trains literal children how to be combo cop-celebrities is. it only tentatively acknowledges the fact that a universe having combo cop-celebrities is fucked up, and even then the only people who ever point this out are antagonists, who are portrayed and treated in-universe as untrustworthy. the narrative doesn't care how fucked up dekus circumstances are. the narrative treats deku like hes a fucking messiah here to touch the hearts of the evil depressed villains with his magical empathetic heart of gold before they get blown up or just sent to fucking superhell for daring to challenge the status quote.

deku isn't a person. he's barely even a fucking character at this point. he's a plot device, and a mouth piece for the objectively shitty themes bnha is trying to spout. the themes that tell you that if you're mistreated by society and want to do something about it, you're a villain. that disrupting the status quote and refusing to repent to some random teenage boy spouting empty platitudes at you means you deserve to get sent to fucking superhell. the themes that portray people fighting for civil change as mass murdering supervillains. the themes that look the audience dead in the eye and can call deku the greatest hero to ever live.

deku, who barely spared a second thought to lady nagant telling him the truth about the hero commission. who spouts meaningless platitudes about heroism and morality at nagant, and aoyama, and toga and shigaraki, when even the thought that he should question the world around him comes up. who's constantly talked about as this truly kind, empathetic person, but hasn't spared an empathetic thought to literally anyone who is classified as a villain. who listened to every authority figure around him except the ones who asked him to question his worldview. who saw la bravas tears, shigarakis various breakdowns, himikos plead for understanding, chisakis catatonic state, lady nagants truth, and barley batted a fucking eye. deku, who killed tomura shigaraki.

people don't criticize deku for failing shigaraki because they just hate deku. people criticize deku because of what he represents. because hes a mouthpiece for the atrocious morals and themes of this ideologically rotten manga. because any character he had was chopped up to bits in favor of the incomplete husk we have now. people criticize deku because hes the main character of my hero academia. theres nothing more damning then that.

And this one is about Dabi, bc I think he was done dirty so much (just like Izu) and I have to say....I don't like how dabi is closer to Natsu, a 8 years old, over Yumi.

I get the reason and have seen many discussion about Dabi and Natsu, trust me. But Yumi was there....she is their sister but is she like the maid or smth? I'm serious bc when Rei was gone I know the chores fall to Yumi who is the only girl in the house (mind you, Endy is rich enough to have more helpers "maybe he did and we don't know" ok fair, but the emotional labour fall to Yumi)

And yes Dabi was just parroting his father's sexism (when dabi wake up from the coma he wanted to apologize to his mom and sister, so is not as if he hated them. I do agree it's and should be nuanced ...) but we aren't allowed to see Toya and Yumi bonding? Did Toya ignored his sister and went straight to vent to a 8 years old boy?

Feels odd (not odd, in the sense "I don't believe it" but in the sense "it's forced, Toya had someone closer in age to talk") bc why not talk to his sister? Was she pro endy even back then? But Toya wanted his attention so his sister being pro endy wouldn't be an issue unless she told him to try be smth else.

Just saying it's ...strange how Yumi is ignored when she is closer of age to Toya. Dabi and Natsu have a bonding but not Yumi...bc she is a girl.

Did Dabi unlearn his sexism way? Look, as much "sexist dabi" are funny jokes...I never saw him, the adult dabi, as sexist. Endy? Yes. Dabi, the crazy villain not (not saying Dabi is feminist king or any shit, but like he never gave me the vibe of being "woman make me a sandwich!")

I think it makes sense why Touya was closer to Natsou than to fuyumi. Now, when I say that, I mean that Touya simply talked to and opened up more to Natsou, not that he and fuyumi didn't have a relationship at all. The Canon material shows that they had a sibling relationship but they weren't particularly as close compared to touya and Natsou and I do think this stems from Touya's own mysgonistic beliefs that were instilled into him by Enji's behaviour. I do want to clarify that Touya's mysgonistic beliefs aren't presented as a LOUD BARRIER to his relationship with fuyumi and his mother, but they are still quite a present and persistent barrier that needs to be acknowledged. Yes, Touya cares for his mother and sister, and he did feel guilty after waking up from his coma, but that doesn't negate the fact that he has some concerning beliefs that taint his own perception of the women in the todoroki household.

That's to say I believe that Touya did use to open up to fuyumi but as time went on he slowly distanced himself away and began relaying on Natsou a lot more due to him viewing him and Natsou to be more similar again a mysognistic belief that is highlighted in these 2 pages.

Touya still seems to have a relationship with his sister before his death. However, I would argue that it's a lot more distant now than, especially with their differing beliefs on the matters of the household. Fuyumi craves a normal life and a normal happy family, which causes her to pretend everything is fine and try and do damage control on what she could while Touya knew fully what was going on with the family and abs hated all of it causing him to actively go against his parents wishes and rebel.

They still seem to be close as Touya does accept her invitation to play with her and Natsou. However, I would argue that Fuyumi now has a closer relationship to Natsou than to Touya, and the same is applicable to Touya.

Again, I do wish we got more flashbacks and differing perspectives from the todoroki family, especially from Fuyumi's perspective.

Before the incident, it is stated in chapter 302 that Enji did hire help but it was only to look after Shoto which does mean that the responsibility of the 3 children did fall mainly to Rei and I do believe that a gold chunk of the manual and emotional labour fell onto Fuyumi as well after her mother was hospitalised. I do think it is a possibility that Enji did hire someone to look after them however, I find it unlikely that the person stayed long at all or that they done much in general and I think from what we see it is heavily implied that after their mother's hospitalisation Fuyumi is the one to handle the labour requited to be fulfilled.

I don't think that the reason Touya was distant with fuyumi was that she was pro enji but more due to their differing views about what they want and how they individually process the situation they are in mixed in with Touya's mysgoiny. However, I do believe that Touya unlearns this after he becomes Dabi yet it is a shame that Horikoshi never showed us when and how (probably because it would paint enji in a bad light and it would need to be told from Dabi's perspective)

how come there's no yandere Marinette fics???? like there's a lot of yandere Adrien fics but not yandere Marinette even though she is in cannon a stalker and near to be a yandere??

Kokushibo with someone(any gender is fine!) that isn't... totally socially adjusted and a tad oblivious(putting that mildly)? they don't pick up on a lot of social cues and tend to fumble their words a lot and speak fast sometimes. Can't even make eye contact without getting nervous. Rather quiet and would more so like quality time than just simply speaking. (like, both could read books together or play games that were around in the taisho era)

Did I say they fully understand each other’s language because they both speak raptor? More like, mostly. Takes some work but will get easier eventually.

(I figured actual-words dialogue would be unnecessary here, so have squiggles representing raptor noises. Downside of squiggles is, though, it’s hard to recognize when the same ones are purposefully reused, so I hope giving the reused ones colours works to help get across that Blue does still get to say all the same things in the last two panels as she said in the second one. Just slower, so Indo and his nonexistent experience at conversation can keep up.)

bnha/mha, my criticisms.

the order in which i put them does not imply I think some of these issues are worse or not as bad as others, it's just the order I think of them in.

1- bakugou katsuki. a bully who doesn't change, but gets worse. from suicide baiting, to attempted murder, and is consistently forgiven and encouraged by every character in the entire story and the fandom.

2- the sexism in the story and fandom. (I went on a whole rant about this but I don't want to write too much about it because it enrages me)

3- fanservice. and the fact that when a male character is used for fanservice it empowers them (male characters uniforms being broken, exposing muscular chests, while female character's exposure does not flaunt their strength, just beauty and sex appeal, even teenagers.)

4- THE FACT THAT THE ONLY TRANS CHARACTERS ARE EITHER A VILLAIN WHO DIED OR A SIDE CHARACTER.

5- character annihilation for the sake of the plot. fuck the plot. characters matter more.

6- eraserhead's shitty teaching and how the fandom sees him as a good teacher or even a father figure.

7- quirkless discrimination and how unadressed it was and how izuku just got over it after a bit in high school even with his lifelong abuser there.

8- 1-A abandonning izuku and before that forcing him to come with them to UA, endangering those sheltering there.

9- Eri being rescued from those who used her only to be used in a different way but it's fine because using a child for her quirk is moral if the heroes do it. 10- bad representation of teenagers and children.

11- HORRIBLE representation of people of colour. mirko is an angry and violent character who is blunt in her words. Rock Lock is also an angry character, and any very reasonable suggestions and remarks he has are ignored. it is a very common trope to have black characters always be angry, and while yes they can be, it speaks a lot about the writer that your only black characters fit the stereotype.
