The sun’s rays peaked through the curtains, caressing your face lightly. You sat up and yawned, rubbing your eyes. Your eyes glanced over to the clock and saw that it was 7am. The space beside yours felt cold. A sinking feeling could be felt in your heart, realizing that your husband hasn’t come home yet. You remembered his words when you called him 2 days ago. 

“Hey, baby!” His voice was bright and cheerful. Even just hearing his voice filled you with joy, reminded of his radiance. 

“Ei! When are you coming home?” You asked, your voice imbued with a strong sense of hope. “I really miss you.” 

“Aw, don’t worry, I promise I’ll be back this Saturday morning. I can’t wait to be with my loving wife,” You could hear the grin in his voice. “I’ll see you then!” 

“See you, Ei,” You gave him one farewell before hanging up. 

You sighed. You suppose it couldn’t be helped. The job of a hero wasn’t easy, people were constantly in danger and villains were relentless. Not only that, but since he was one of the top heroes, the media is thirsty for more of him. It was hard to blame him, honestly. Of course, sometimes you wish he’d have more time for you. However, you held off on telling him in fear of seeming selfish. 

Looking into a special desk, your eyes spotted your pet rock on it. You had followed an online tutorial to make it look like your dear husband, all because you were bored and lonely. It had red hair like his made of felt as well as sharp teeth. Red rhinestones were used for the eyes, shimmering in the morning light. Your hands gingerly picked it up and placed a soft kiss on it. 

“Good morning, honey,” You cooed, caressing the slightly rough sides of it.

Your footsteps were light as you walked towards the kitchen, yawning into your hand once more. Your senses were still somewhat groggy. 

But then, a few noises came from the kitchen. 

Your eyes widened and you rushed to the room. The sight that you were met with was of your husband surrounded by pots and pans on the ground. He looked up with a sheepish smile. 

“Hey, honey,” He greeted you, rubbing his neck. “I was going to surprise you with breakfast in bed but… Well, the surprise was ruined.” 

A chuckle bubbled from your throat. You smiled back at him. “I’m just happy you’re here, Eijiro,” You told him, kneeling to help him pick up the pots and pans. You placed a kiss on his lips once you two were finished. 

“Aw, but I really wanted to do something special. We haven’t seen each other in so long,” Eijiro wrapped an arm around your waist, lifting you off the ground. He buried his face into your neck, his breath tickling it. 

You wrapped your arms around his neck and hugged him close, closing your eyes and relishing in the moment. His embrace was warm and his presence smelled of teakwood. 

“Alright, why don’t we cook something together? That should be fun,” You suggested to him after a short moment of just enjoying each other’s company. 

The redhead looked up, his eyes lit up. If he had a tail, it’d probably be wagging like crazy. How endearing. 

“That’d be great!” 

He put you down. “So what should we make?” He asked, curiosity sparkling in his crimson eyes. 

“How about pancakes? It’s a special day today now that you’re finally here,” You replied, giggling at how he looked. You looked into the pantry to find the ingredients for it, then realized that that flour was placed on the higher shelf where you couldn’t reach. 

You turned to him and pointed at the item with a sheepish expression on your face. “Uh, could you grab that for me, Ei?” You asked and immediately regretted it because his face morphed into one of cheekiness. 

“Of course, shorty,” He responded, putting a ton of emphasis on the “shorty”. This made your face heat up in embarrassment, glaring at him. He stepped closer and took the box with ease, then placed it on the counter. 

“Anything else, baby?” Oh that little (well, not so little) shit.

“How about you take the measuring cups and spoons?” You answered, taking the rest of the ingredients off of the shelf. Then, you looked into the fridge to grab the milk, eggs, and butter. You placed the items onto the granite countertop along with the rest. 

Eijiro held the measuring tools in his massive hands. He put it down on the counter as well and grabbed a bowl.

You mixed all the ingredients and when the mixture was ready, you kneeled down to get a pan and put it on the stove. You started cooking the pancakes, a sweet scent of vanilla wafted through your nostrils. 

Your redhead husband watched you do all the work and pouted. “Wasn’t I supposed to be the one to make you breakfast?” He whined, wrapping his massive muscular arms around your waist and hugging it. 

You chuckled. “It’s too late for that now. How about you cook some bacon and eggs? I’m sure you’d love extra toppings on your pancakes,” You told him, flipping the pancake. One side was a perfect golden brown. 

His eyes lit up. “Great idea!” He went ahead to grab the eggs and bacon and started cooking alongside you. Sizzling came from his pan as he laid the bacon on it to cook and a savory meaty smell mixed with the sweet vanilla. He glanced at you for a moment. 

“So how’s Rocky?” He asked, a smile gracing his face, probably reminiscing the time you sent him pictures of the pet rock. He thought it was adorable how you managed to make it look like him. 

“Rocky?” You raised your eyebrow, an amused glint in your eye. The first pancake was finished so you put it on a plate. One down, 19 left to go. 

“Yeah, you haven’t given him a name yet so I just called him Rocky,” Eijiro shrugged and replied, flipping the bacon. 

You snickered lightly. “That sounds like a name an 8 year old child would give to their pet rock.” You poured more of the mixture into the pan, creating a second pancake. 

“Well maybe when we get our 8 year old a pet rock, we can see for ourselves,” He rebutted, placing the bacon on the plate that sat on his side of the counter. He replaced it with more pieces of bacon. 

Your eyes widened and your face expression was basically that surprised pikachu meme at that moment. “I- Uh- Is that a promise?” You stammered, then panicked when you realized one side of the pancake was about to burn and flipped it. 

He winked at you from the side. “Of course, we’ve been married for a while. If you wanna get kids, we could give him or her Rocky one day.” He said, placing the finished bacon pieces onto his plate and then starting to cook the eggs. 

You pecked his cheek. “That sounds wonderful.”

Once you two finished cooking, you set the table and he served the plates, carrying all of them with such ease that it was unfair. He placed the plates down onto the table, sitting down beside you with a grin. 

“This looks great! I’m proud of us,” He spoke as he placed even more toppings on his stack of pancakes until it looked like a mountain of breakfast foods. You put your own preferred toppings on your stack and both of you dug into your meals. A symphony of flavors graced your mouth and you gave a blissful sigh, satisfied with the result of your cooking. 

“So, baby,” Eijiro spoke up, making you turn to him in question. 

“Hm?” You hummed, some food still in your mouth. 

“I had this idea that we could do after breakfast,” He swallowed the piece of bacon that he was chewing. “How about we make a pet rock version of you? I hate to leave you alone, so we should give Rocky a lil partner.”

You also swallowed the piece of pancake in your mouth and grinned. “That sounds so cute, Ei. I love that idea. Let’s do it!” You told him. It should be easy to do, at least considerably easier to do than when you created Rocky since you didn’t exactly have a type of hair like his, nor did you have sharp teeth. You still had some materials for it and all you had to do was find another rock in your shared yard. 

He nodded and started scarfing down his breakfast, eager to do this with you. After you two had consumed your meals, you went to the living room. You had the arts and crafts materials and he grabbed a cute rock from outside and washed it. 

“How about I make it since you were the one that made Rocky? Think of it as like painting your portrait,” Your husband offered, taking the materials from your hands. 

“Pft, paint me like one of your rock girls,” You giggled at your own joke. 

He also chuckled at it, finding himself amused by your sense of humor. He put down the materials on the coffee table in front of you and picked up the rock. He started working on making your hair, cutting up smaller strands of yarn to create it. The yarn looked like a mere strand of literal hair in his massive hands. Fortunately, he managed to be careful with it. Honestly, he could easily crush your skull with one hand if he tried to. 

Then, he plugged in the glue gun into the socket nearby and used it to glue in the yarn wig onto the top of the rock’s head, making sure each strand was in the correct position. Once that was finished, he glanced at the rhinestones and seemed to ponder something for a moment. 

“Do you still have any leftover swarovski crystals?” He asked. 

You looked up and tilted your head in question. “Well, yeah but wouldn’t you want to just use the rhinestones here?” You responded. 

He sheepishly smiled, glancing at you. “It’s just that… when I think of your eyes, I feel that they’re sparklier than regular rhinestones. And you told me Swarovski crystals have extra sparkles in them.”

Pink dusted your cheeks and you internally swooned. He’s just too cute. You rushed to go find the crystals and quickly came back, handing it to him. 

“These are perfect!” Eijiro’s eyes lit up when he looked at the crystals. He picked out two of them that matched your eyes and glued it to the rock, positioning it correctly. Then, he gently put down the rock on the coffee table and grabbed the pink felt paper, as well as the scissors. He cut the felt so that it would form tiny lips and glued them to the rock. 

Once he was satisfied with the result, he turned it around so it would face you. “Here,” He said with a grin on his pearly whites. 

You gaped. “Aw, that’s adorable, Ei! I love her!” You squealed, taking it into your hands and gazing upon its sparkling crystals for eyes. 

“You think our future children would like her?” Your husband asked. 

“Absolutely.” You put down the pet rock beside Rocky and wrapped your arms around him in a tight hug. 

“I’m so glad you’re finally here, Ei. I’ve missed hanging out with you like this so much.” 

“And I’m happy to be here with you too, baby.” His smile turned into one of fondness for his dear wife. “I’m so sorry that I’ve been so busy lately. It’s really unmanly to leave my wife alone so often. But I promise that I’ll be taking a vacation soon and we can spend more time together and travel to a nice island.”

You leaned into his warm and firm chest, closing your eyes and breathed in his musk. His presence comforted you, lulling you to sleep. “I’d like that a lot,” You whispered as your consciousness faded to darkness, falling asleep to the sound of his heartbeat.
