i just looked through some of your romeo and juliet posts and i think i agree with literally all of your opinions on it. i know you’re mostly hamlet focused but im curious to know your overall thoughts on the 1996 r+j film adaptation, especially since you mentioned it briefly as a comparison to the bleach blond hamlet movie
i must admit that i saw this movie at the age of 15 in high school english class, so my memory is foggy, but i like it a lot! i know people think it's tacky or whatever, but i think it really captures the vibes and mood of the play—the druglike heat of summer, the glitter, the speed, the chaos, all the big exclamation-point heady feelings that go with first love and erotics and violence. i can’t remember well enough to speak on specific scene choices or characterizations or etc EXCEPT. of course. to say that nobody has ever mercutio’d like harold perrineau mercutio’d and i doubt anyone ever will again

Thomas Lawrence kneels to kiss the newly elected Innocent XIV's ring and the resulting internal monologue is so gay that Tedesco gets a homophobia-induced nosebleed even though he's several rooms over.
