I’ve Seen A Lot Of Posts On My Dash Tonight About Users Who Are Threatening Suicide, With Other Tumblr

I’ve seen a lot of posts on my dash tonight about users who are threatening suicide, with other Tumblr members posting in effort to try to get ahold of them. I think you all should see this:

IF THERE IS EVER A TUMBLR USER WHO HAS POSTED A GOOD-BYE MESSAGE, SUICIDE NOTE, VIDEO, OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS POST.

1. Scroll to the top of your dashboard.

2. See the circular question mark icon at the top? It’s the third one over from your home symbol. Click on that, and a screen similar to the one in the picture will come up.

3. Where you can type in questions, the box with the magnifying glass at the top, type in the word “suicide.”

4. Click on the first link that shows up. It should say, “Pass the URL of the blog on to us.”

5. Type in the user’s URL and tell Tumblr admin that the user is contemplating suicide and has posted a message indicating that they are going through with it or will be attempting. Hit send! Tumblr administration will perform a number of actions to contact the user and take the necessary steps to prevent the suicide.

TUMBLR: THIS COULD SAVE A USER’S LIFE. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE SUICIDE THREATS.

Reblog this to keep other users aware. Suicide isn’t a joke, and neither is someone’s life. If you didn’t know this, someone else may not, either. Pass it on.

I knew we would eventually reach a point where masses of people would misinterpret Arcane, but I never imagined it would be this bad.

Yes, I absolutely agree that season 2 was rushed, especially Act 3, and it is undeniable that the series would have benefited from at least one more episode if not an entire act. However, the current discourse about the show is so superficial that it's impossible to have a conversation about anything deeper but a mere synopsis of the characters and story.

So many of you expected this series to hold your hand and dumb everything down so you can understand it. But when it wasn't the case, you all started rioting and calling the characters vague, the plot bad, and the ships underdeveloped.

The amount of people who value spoken text more than the actions of the characters is worrying. And more worrying than that is the amount of those who interpret the said actions so superficially. I can't believe it needs to be explained that it wasn't Vi's death that led to the "good" timeline, but the lack of hextech. The result would have been the same if either of them had died. It wasn't about Vi, but about the child that died because of dangerous technology and that therefore that technology must not be used. The mischaracterization of Vi in general is insane. Call me biased and unfair, but the moment I hear you don't like her I will assume you didn't understand the show.

Also, the whole discourse around Caitvi scene in episode 8 is giving brainsmooth. No, Vi didn't choose Cait over Jinx, quite the opposite. No, Cait didn't plan all of it to fuck Vi. No, Vi didn't do it because she felt forced or because she is a horny animal who doesn't care about her sister. No, them fucking in a cell is not about the class difference, but about the fact that Vi felt an insane rush of emotions after realizing that Cait would let go of her revenge and help Jinx escape, all for her. Yes, I do agree that it would be nice if we got a longer conversation between Vi and Caitlyn and it would feel great to hear Cait apologize, but I'll always value actions over words. Her talking to Jinx, recognizing that she is just as bad as her, and choosing to trust Vi that her sister can change, thus letting Jinx escape will always mean more than any verbal apology and I'll die on that hill.

Also, it was Jinx's decision to let go and walk away. It was not about Vi trying to get to Vander, but about Jinx being tired of everything. Even if that fight didn't happen, the result would be the same: Jinx would leave because she knows that Vi couldn't do that. She knew that the two of them couldn't have a normal life together and that Vi would never give up on her. Jinx didn't "die" because Vi pushed her or failed her, but because she loved her too much. Whether you believe that she is dead or that she escaped, it's her decision either way.

Again, I agree that too much happened too quickly, but stop confusing your stupidity and inability to read between the lines with the quality of the series.

Arcane is flawed but still brilliant.

Now that season three is over, and both the lottienats and lottielees were fucked, can we all just hold hands? We're all just freaks who like lesbianism with religious symbolism. Super extremely important gay dissertation under the cut.

I think the argument on whether or not Laura Lee or Nat meant more to Lottie is kind of stupid, considering they've both been shown to have a lot of value in her story. Laura Lee was the sort of precursor to the wilderness, she's the one who started all of that in Lottie. Meanwhile, Nat was "always its favorite"; the one who was at the center of the wilderness for Lottie, she was the sort of chosen one. I also think Laura Lee and Nat work as interesting foils in Lottie's overall story. Laura Lee represents complete unwavering belief and faith, while Nat represents doubt and skepticism. Throughout the first two seasons (before the massive nosedive in season three happened) we saw Lottie navigating the thin line between faith and doubt, and Laura Lee and Nat are the physical embodiments of those key elements.

Due to these different roles Laura Lee and Nat played they both offered different but very needed things to Lottie in their respective moments. In season one Laura Lee offered Lottie what she so desperately wanted, belief and validation. Lottie has always felt insecure and unsure about herself, especially in regard to her schizophrenia. Laura Lee, for better or for worse, intensely validated Lottie. So much so she convinced her she was a prophet touched by god. Laura Lee offered her comfort and belief, which is something Lottie had never received from anyone else throughout her life. Jump to season two we can see now that the way the girls have deified Lottie is beginning to weigh heavily on her. She doesn't know what to do with it, she's not even fully sure of herself, and definitely not sure enough to lead an entire group of girls who are desperate for something to believe in. But then there's Nat who disagrees with her and challenges her at every possible moment, she doesn't deify her, she just views her as a teenage girl. Even if it was frustrating, it's what Lottie needed in that moment, a break from being put on a pedestal. Which is why one of the only scenes in season two where we see Lottie just acting like a teenage girl, separate from all of the wilderness politics, is with Nat in the bathtub scene. It's also a contributing factor to why she ultimately crowns Nat as their new queen.

-I realize in season three the girls stopped believing in Lottie and instead begin to dehumanize and demonize her. However, as we see in episode eight, Nat doesn't call her crazy when she wants to stay like everyone else does and instead tries to reason with her and talk to her like what she is, a scared teenage girl.

With all of this in mind, I'm just incredibly mad at how they handled Lottie's character in season three. They did not mention Laura Lee once, and they did not give Lottie's connection with Nat the exploration it deserved. I was very pissed at how they handled her death; it could have been a very interesting final exploration of her relationship to faith and doubt, but instead we got no real insight into her mental state. Lottie deserved some kind of post-death scene, not necessarily a plane scene, but a scene where she confronted the wilderness and what it really meant to her. She could have been met with Laura Lee and Nat who were the physical embodiments of her faith and skepticism, and seemingly two of the most important people to her. Instead, they stripped out all of the nuance from her character and left what's honestly a quite harmful portrayal of schizophrenia. So yeah, with that being said, we should all just kiss and hold hands because this season absolutely massacred Lottie's character.

My Yellowjackets Theory: Melissa is the 8th survivor, which begs the question, how has no one brought her up until now? Misty has famously kept insane tabs on all the survivors post-rescue, so it’s strange to go two seasons without at least her bringing it up. Now, stick with me. When they were rescued, they had to have had a moment where they got together and decided what they would make public and just how much they were gonna hide (a lot of it). In that moment, they had to have realized that it was gonna follow them forever, they would never escape each other or what they did, and they would never have a normal life. The only way to escape it all, is to die.

So Melissa faked her death.

She could’ve known that those crazy ass girls and what they did would never leave her alone and she would never have a normal life, so she faked her death for a chance at a normal life, and that’s why no one has brought her up at all.

Now with this blonde that they’re teasing is following Shauna, the way they mirrored that scene with the kiss, makes me think that Melissa has finally understood that as long is she is actually alive she will never escape the wilderness or the girls, and now she wants to be the last one left.

I physically cannot wait for the next episode LOL

The “Pomegranate Theory” in Yellowjackets

Background

The “Pomegranate Theory” In Yellowjackets

The Pomegranate Theory is a fan theory in Yellowjackets inspired by the Greek myth of Persephone and Hades. The story follows Persephone, the daughter of Demeter (the goddess of agriculture), after she is captured by Hades and taken to the Underworld, where she is held against her will. Demeter is devastated by the loss of her daughter, and in her grief she neglects her duties as the agricultural goddess, causing all of the crops to wither and a massive famine to spread across the earth.

In the Underworld, if one consumes any food, they will be stuck there forever. Persephone, knowing this, initially declines all of Hades’ offers of food and drinks, no matter how desperately he attempts to get her to consume them. Eventually, Zeus demands Hades to return Persephone to her mother, but before Persephone leaves the Underworld, Hades tricks her into eating 6 pomegranate seeds. Since Persephone consumed food in the Underworld, she is bound to Hades forever. A compromise is reached that, since Persephone ate 6 seeds, she will have to spend 6 months out of every year in the Underworld, while the other 6 months can be spent on earth.

During this 6 month period each year in which Persephone returns to the Underworld, the earth once again becomes cold and barren of crops and greenery due to Demeter’s sorrow; and in the 6 months that Persephone lives on earth, the weather becomes warmer and the plants thrive. These changes become the 4 seasons. Spring and Summer occur while Persephone is on earth, and Fall and Winter occur while she is trapped in the Underworld.

Yellowjackets’ Connection to Greek Myth

Yellowjackets has been known to reference Greek imagery, particularly in one of the show’s most prominent scenes. While the group is eating Jackie in Season 2, we get dissociative flashes of a lavish feast that looks like this:

The “Pomegranate Theory” In Yellowjackets

In these shots, the group is dressed in Grecian tunics, gathered around a table, consuming fruit and wine in a frenzied, euphoric manner reminiscent of the Greco-Roman Bacchanalia. These ancient Greco-Roman festivals, held in honor of Dionysus (or Bacchus), were originally exclusive to women and became infamous for their wild revelry, rumored to descend into violence and occult rituals. The parallels between the Bacchanalia and the group’s descent into savage feasting in this scene are clear and deliberate. This connection has led fans to speculate that Yellowjackets may draw from Greek mythology in more ways than just this moment.

Fans have speculated that Yellowjackets may incorporate elements of the Persephone myth, particularly the symbolism of the pomegranate seeds. In Greek mythology, consuming food in the Underworld binds a soul to it, and in the show, many characters experience death visions or dreams where they are offered food. According to this theory, the forest represents the barren earth, the dream space the characters enter when on the brink of death symbolizes the Underworld, and the Wilderness entity coaxes them into consuming food represents Hades. If a character eats in this realm, they risk being bound to this mystical afterlife, leading to their death in the real world.

Let’s explore the show’s examples of this:

Jackie’s Hot Chocolate

The “Pomegranate Theory” In Yellowjackets

The first time we see this realm between life and death is when Jackie is dying from hypothermia. After she falls asleep outside, she awakens in a dreamlike space in which Shauna leads her back into the cabin. Here, Jackie is offered a cup of hot chocolate from Lottie which she eagerly accepts and drinks from. This shot of Jackie holding the mug of hot chocolate is the last time we ever see her alive, as she is found dead outside in the snow the next morning.

According to the Pomegranate Theory, Jackie unwittingly traps herself in the ‘Wilderness death realm’ (the Yellowjackets equivalent of the Underworld) by consuming the hot chocolate. The moment she takes a drink, she dies on earth and binds herself to the Wilderness forever. The Cabin Guy also appears in Jackie’s death dream, which could imply that he previously consumed something while in this realm and is now trapped there forever as a result.

It could be nothing, but I think it is also important to note that Jackie’s death marks the first snowfall of Winter, similar to how Winter only occurs when Persephone is trapped in the Underworld.

Lottie’s Food Court Dream

The “Pomegranate Theory” In Yellowjackets

We see this Wilderness death realm (for lack of a better word, very open to suggestions) again when Lottie collapses outside in the snow during her hunting battle with Nat. As she loses consciousness, she finds herself in a shopping mall, where her teammates are gathered around a table in the food court, happily eating. Lottie is offered a box of noodles and begins to scoop up a bite—only to be stopped at the last moment by Laura Lee.

Laura Lee disrupts the illusion, warning Lottie that if she doesn’t leave this dream space, she will die. She physically pushes Lottie, jolting her back to reality, where she reawakens in the snow, still alive.

Lottie’s survival hinges on the fact that she does not eat in this scene. The fact that Laura Lee is the one to intervene suggests she understands the consequences—implying that consuming food in this space would have sealed Lottie’s fate. Because she resists, Lottie is able to return to the living world rather than becoming trapped in the Wilderness’s eerie death realm.

Mari and Jackie Parallels

The “Pomegranate Theory” In Yellowjackets
The “Pomegranate Theory” In Yellowjackets

In 3x02, when Coach Ben holds Mari hostage in the caves, he gives her a mug of hot chocolate from the emergency food kit he found. Notably, the lines spoken as Mari drinks from the cup are identical to those in Jackie’s death dream. I feel like it is no coincidence that, of all the things Coach could have given Mari in this scene, she is given the same drink that Jackie consumes in her death vision. And, just like Jackie, Mari takes a drink (quite a few drinks actually).

The “Pomegranate Theory” In Yellowjackets

Additionally, it appears that this might actually be the same mug that Jackie drank from. The setting of the underground caves might also serve as a representation of the Underworld from the Greek myth, as these caves exist beneath the surface level. So, if you believe the in the Pomegranate Theory, things unfortunately aren’t looking too good for Mari. Even though Mari’s scene does not take place within a dream sequence like the others, the parallels between this scene and Jackie’s death along with the potential foreshadowing of Mari falling into a pit in the ground not long before this might be hinting at Mari’s eventual demise.

Akilah’s Berries

The “Pomegranate Theory” In Yellowjackets

The most recent example of a character eating food within a near-death dream space is Akilah at the end of 3x03. After presumably inhaling too much carbon monoxide in the caves and passing out, Akilah finds herself in the forest surrounded by berry bushes. She begins to rapidly consume them all before encountering a talking llama that reminds her “everything with teeth bites.”

Akilah’s consumption of the berries while in a dream state, along with the llama’s warning (crazy sentence) might be foreshadowing to Akilah’s death in the future.

You can choose to take this whole theory with a grain of salt, but I personally find it so fascinating and plausible (even if it’s just the show-runners creatively referencing this myth rather than it actually being canon). I feel like this theory will be even more solidified if Mari and Akilah die this season, so time will tell.

In conclusion, if you see one of your favorite characters eating something while in a dream, prepare to mourn.
