Here’s a post that I hope some will find helpful, things I have picked up along the way that I wish I had known from the start!  These are not set in stone, and only just suggestions, I’m no expert okay guys THINGS I WISH I HAD KNOWN ABOUT PHOTOSHOP: 1.  FLOW.  Flow was put in place primarily for the airbrush folks.  Now its relevance has changed slightly.  With textured brushes, try reducing the flow to “expose” texture. 2.  Ctrl+U : HUE/SATURATION/LIGHTNESS.  For people who are indecisive about color, use this to slide around the color quickly instead of repainting or replacing the color. 3.  CLIPPING/ LAYER MASKS.  Seriously, take five minutes to do this.  A good online resource is ctrlpaint.  This will be instrumental in creating hard edges, something beginner digital artists really struggle with.  Also non-destructive, you will save SO much time.  4.  With that said, ctrl+alt+g makes the current layer you are on a clipping mask.  You can layer mask a group.  5.  MULTIPLY and the surrounding layer types in its little section is like a dark glaze.  Good for shadows. 6.  OVERLAY and the surrounding layer types in its little section is like a lightening glaze.  Good for lighting. LIGHTEN and the dudes around him are also good for lighting, esp. screen.  7.  MAKE YOUR GOSH DARN BACKGROUND IN THE INTERFACE LIGHTER.  Your contrast will thank you.  Right click on the background of the interface and choose the one you like the best.  I know dark grey looks sexy, I know.  8.  TRANSFORM TOOLS ARE THE BEST (but paint over them).  If you have a tile, pattern, whatever- Image>transform> choose your weapon.  Have a tiled floor? Don’t you dare paint all those tiles. Scales?  Paint them flat in a square, then use the warp tool to push them around the form.  Then make your painterly adjustments. 9.  PAINTING SHORTCUTS:  Numbers affect the opacity. Shift+ Number affects the flow. Holding down alt gives you the eyedropper. Brackets [] change size of brush, these dudes <> cycle between your brushes. 10.  HISTOGRAM. If you have a fairly even histogram, this means your distribution of lights mids and darks is even.  If it is skewed, and you don’t mean it to be, adjust accordingly.  Just be casual about it and love your art I love you all drawmaevedraw.tumblr.com

I just got a new perfume that smells so good! It’s sweet and mild and it reminds me of marshmallows. I’ve gotten many compliments on it! But my brain won’t let me have anything nice…it basically goes:

Coworker: Wow someone smells really good! Like smores!

My brain: She hates the smell and is just trying to be nice!!

OR

I normally smell REALLY bad and she wants me to wear this more!!

But how do I know which? No more marshmallow perfume or more marshmallow perfume?

And now I have anxiety whenever I put perfume on…knowing fully that I smell like a wonderful cloud of fluffy marshmallows and of course it was just a compliment and nothing shady

10 inspiring and helpful YouTube channels for digital artists

People are asking us how the art we share can be so good.

The answer this time isn’t so simple. An artist has his own way on shaping his style, he takes his time to experiment and so it becomes quite difficult for others to try learning his art style and making it their own. It’s even wrong.

But we can tell you that many artists learn by getting inspired by others’ art. Watching an artist while he paints can be motivating - and of course it can teach you a few technical tricks.

So, here there are ten YouTube channels you should check out.

1. FZD School of design

It’s a school founded by Feng Zhu, amazing concept artist with a lot of experience in video games, films and commercials. His videos are real episodes/lessons and they are very helpful. And, well, they even have a school in Singapore…

2. China digital painting

This channel doesn’t feature tutorials but shares full video processes by Chinese artist. In this period we are seeing many young artists inspired by an art style that’s typically Chinese - it features dramatic lighting and mood. Though such a technique can be found in other artists like Bouguereau and  Rembrandt.

3. Ctrl + Paint

A channel dedicated to the digital painting in Photoshop. Very helpful for those beginners who want to learn how to use this software and how to get better with art in general.

4. Level Up!

One of the most known groups of digital art of Facebook can be found on YouTube as well. The founders are Wojtek Fus and Darek Zabrocki. Each session (episode) features a different digital artist. This is great because you can compare the different painting processes. The main theme of this channel is concept art and fantasy/sci-fi illustrations.

5. JJ canvas

This is the channel of Jorge Jacinto. He uploads speedpaintings, but they are very inspiring if you want to look at how a wonderful surreal landscape can be created in twenty minutes - in time-lapse of course.

6. Webang111

Another channel with time-lapse videos. Very inspiring if you are into colorful and cartoony illustrations.

7. Ross Draws

His art is wonderful and his videos are super funny! Check out his channel if you want to see how a fantasy illustration can be created from a simple idea - I mean, he starts with two rough lines to close the video with a breathtaking illustration. Crazy.

8. The Portrait Art

Okay, we know. This channel is not about digital art. But it’s amazing art anyway and if you are into realistic portraits, you can get inspired by watching these videos.

9. Cubebrush

Another channel with time-lapse videos, but a few are commented. The videos are about 2D and 3D paintings.

10. Noah Bradley

This artist is a master in the concept field and he doesn’t only talk about his digital method but about his career as well, giving lots of hints on how to become a better artist and how to enter in the art industry.
