𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒚  truly  is  in  the  eye  of  the  beholder  when  it  comes  to  maggie  .  she  finds  beauty  in  everything  .  things  that  are  traditionally  beautiful  ,  exceptional  ,  glorious  all  draw  honor  and  appreciation  from  her  .  but  so  do  things  that  are  awesome  (  in  an  old  sense  of  the  word  ,  inspiring  awe  or  dread  )  ,  diabolical  (  outrageously  wicked,  infernal  ,  devilish  )  ,  and  gruesome  (  causing  one  to  feel  horror,  shudder  )  also  draw  her  focus  . 

she  loves  the  sunset  just  as  much  as  she  loves  thorns  dipped  in  blood  ;  she  appreciates  the  carrion  bird  resting  after  gorging  itself  on  innards  with  wings  spread  to  take  in  the  sun  just  as  much  as  the  brilliant  metallic  sheen  of  the  hummingbird  .  she  adores  fashion  and  makeup  and  music  and  artistry  ,  and  she  adores  the  artistic  prowess  that  goes  into  the  hunt  ,  be  it  in  the  waking  world  or  not  .  the  gentle  hint  of  teeth  from  mother  night's  patient  smile  and  the  obvious  threat  display  of  a  canine  snarl  both  hold  sway  over  her  .  creating  traps  ,  weaving  webs  ,  luring  prey  into  a  false  sense  of  security  is  just  as  beautiful  to  her  as  the  feeling  of  cradling  her  children  against  her  ,  in  aura  and  in  body  ,  as  often  as  they  will  let  her  .

the underearth

maggie loves giving nicknames and pet-names to folks , including inanimate objects . she named her car patroclus . nicknames for pan include panini , panificent , panorama , pandemonium , pantry guardian , peter pan , peter parker , spiderman , etc. her terms for hermes are almost as lengthy , every riff off dad , papa , pops , etc. is on the table . if you have a nickname , nicholasname , or pet-name , she really cares for you .

he  touches  her  and  it  all  stops  . 

her  body  ,  still  shivering  from  the  cold  ,  immediately  melts  into  his  touch  .  she  feels  like  she  can  breathe  again  ,  deep  gasps  that  expand  her  lungs  all  the  way  as  he  thaws  her  back  to  life  .  frozen  hands  reach  for  the  blanket  ,  holding  ,  grounding  ,  rubbing  the  soft  fabric  until  she  can  breathe  again  . 

yellow  eyes  ,  pupils  wide  with  delirium  ,  look  to  his  face  ,  where  she  slowly  calms  .  her  breath  settles  ,  her  body  warming  back  to  normal  as  she's  tucked  in  against  him  . 

she  doesn't  know  what  happened  -  if  something  latched  onto  her  from  the  last  time  she  went  there  ,  to  the  perpetually  flooded  valley  of  his  domain  ,  only  to  strike  now  ,  but  at  least  she  doesn't  feel  like  she's  drowning  on  land  anymore  . 

tears  fall  as  she  theorizes  what  she  had  been  feeling  .  the  last  panicked  memories  of  dreams  ?  the  nightmares  born  from  those  memories  ?  hypnos'  own  helplessness  as  he  felt  his  realm  weaken , himself unmade  ? 

she  doesn't  know  ,  but  she  feels  better  now  .  she  buries  her  face  against  his  neck  ,  feeling  every  bit  an  imposter  queen  . 

she'll  dry  her  tears  in  a  bit  .  for  now  ,  she  only  murmurs  soft  apologies  .  not  for  her  actions  ;  but  for  ,  impossible  as  it  is  ,  not  being  able  to  have  helped  him  through  that  .
