Insist on believing that good will prevail; that the work will get done; that there will again be love. We have to want to get up in the morning for the good mornings to arrive.

“We’re so often told that art can’t really change anything. But I think it can. It shapes our ethical landscapes; it opens us to the interior lives of others. It is a training ground for possibility. It makes plain inequalities, and it offers other ways of living. Don’t you want it, to be impregnate with all that light? And what will happen if you are?”

– Olivia Laing, Funny Weather: Art in an Emergency

I just learned there's a thing in ecosystem building called a Soft Landing where you plant lots of herbaceous flowers and other non-woody materials beneath a tree so that if a bug falls off a branch while pupating they will be caught and safe :)

‘A little light’, said the Jewish mystics, ‘drives away much darkness.’ And when light is joined to light, mine to yours and yours to others, the dance of flames, each so small, yet together so intricately beautiful, begins to show that hope is not an illusion… All I can say is what I feel: that the people I have met who have lit candles in other people’s lives have given me the strength to carry on.

Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks zt"l, To Heal a Fractured World p. 271
