Of course, you know that you don’t really have the option of saying no. So you agree, but meekly ask if maybe several months is too long – that maybe one month would be long enough. Your wife just laughs and says that it will be at least two months, and you all can re-evaluate then.

Three hours later you’ve removed everything of yours from your wife’s (now their) bedroom and loaded your car with two suitcases of clothes and several boxes of other things of yours. As you prepare to leave to drive to your best friend’s apartment where you will be staying, you look back and see your wife and your best friend standing in the doorway of the house, his arm around her, and the two of them laughing as they wave goodbye to you. You had asked if you could drop by in a couple of days – kind of like your best friend frequently did when you were living in the house – but your wife had simply said that she’d be in touch and would invite you over for dinner when they were ready. And as you pull out of the driveway, you look back one last time and see the two of them – still in the doorway – passionately kissing.

You’re not sure what it means for them to make it “a little more official”, but you’re pretty sure it will partly mean that your wife will be spending even less time with you and much more time with him.
