A full page of Springtrap's "Anatomy" doodles for all you springlock enjoyers out there.
Initially I just wanted to draw a ref for myself, so I traced Springtrap's outline off of my laptop screen (twice) and drew over them. This was mostly done to 'get a feel' for the character since I wanted to get better at drawing them. Then I went ham adding details inspired by lore, springlock videos, and fan theories, along with some of my own ideas. I looked up multiple references for the endoskeleton too. Nakey Springtrap is funny.
Eventually I want to draw each layer properly in better detail, with in-depth descriptions, and do a better job of making sense of the springlock mechanism. Consider this a rough draft.
I went through and tidied up each and every letter and did my best to recreate the background from the preview. Also I inverted the colors and went with a blueprint style to mask the creepiness of the original, which can be seen below. vvv
Life wizards can and will stray from their path.
Theurgists listen to the Song of Creation, what was once sung to creat the Spiral and still resonates today, echoing off of each life wizard vector who continues this growth. The full feeling in their chest, fluttering hands and heartbeat as they genuinely wish for something to florish.
The Song is a cry in the darkness, and they are the ones who listen, who understand. Living is difficult, unfair. It is chance and then it is a competition, species fighting like weeds trying to strangle a garden. But the weeds wish to live too. It is all they have.
The Song is a quiet melody, repeating in their minds when they begin to learn the intricacies of life magic. It is in off-key humming as they tidy up their dorm room. It is in awful singing along on long trips. It is in shower concerts, in the absentminded finger on the dusty piano. The Song is baby's laughter and a cat's purr and the shaky vows of love.
It grows, as all things do. It manifests in life wizards and they can only grin and dance to a predestined beat, full of nice feelings. Sunshine warming their body. The soft petals of fragility. The peace of knowing they can only do their best, and accepting it.
There is a resentment that can fester, however. In hidden things, the parasites hijacking the bugs, the disease and rot where nothing new can blossom. It is when they tire of singing along. It is when they snap at fellow life wizards for whistling and humming seemingly random tunes. It is the knowledge that their every action is guided by a Song sung at the beginning of the Spiral, and the assumption that nothing can be done because of that.
They want to do more. There is no lost cause. There is no excuse in this prewritten lullaby, and they will not surrender into acceptance when injustices happen every day, and no music can rectify them.
So they stop listening.
They are silent, now. They cannot effect the Spiral in any way that creates sound, now. In their rejection their claps are nothing. Their footsteps do not effect forest or classroom floors. Snaps, the creaking of joints, sighs, involuntary groans of pain.
When a life wizard rejects this song, they too are rejected in turn.
They have ideas now, goals. They save people written off as dead, they can save so many. They live with a weight taken off of their mind, no longer under any will but their own. Violin and guitar and piano strings do not guide them like a puppet. Their heart is no longer a drumbeat. Their every move is no longer just a note on a page, on straight, ridged lines.
It is almost soothing, to be encased in silence. Like the shade of a tree after being pulled outside to enjoy a spring day. Like an oasis in the desert. Like a rock to rest upon as the river runs lazily around you, no longer forced to sink or swim.
Their silence can be their end, no matter how free their will is.
They cannot cry for help. No one will hear their cries of pain, their frantic breaths, the grotesque song of their body breaking. This is simply a rest between notes, a small exhale of silence while other instruments continue on in the orchestra.
Another will take their place soon enough, one more ready to listen well to the Song of Creation.
Been thinking about how if I was the traveler I'd be calling Xiao's name literally all of the time. It'd be like that spongebob episode where spongeboy gets the conch for mermaid man and barnacle boy
being good friends with evelyn and george but barely knowing alex is so funny. like bro i didnt call for you put your grandparents on the phone i have a recipe to swap with granny and a news broadcast to complain about with peepaw

uh hi can you give some shading tips? pls?
Sure! :DD
I think the easier way to give some tips is by showing my own process.
(I won't explain here the basics of shading, but if you want I linked a tutorial down at the end of this.)
First off, the program I use is Krita (but any program is ok 👍✨) And here's the brushes I use:
I'd say use at least two brushes. A soft one and a harder one.
To show you I'll use this doodle I did of Murder!Sans (by @/ask-dusttale)
First, flat colors.
Then start shading on a new layer and put it in Multiply mode, then change the opacity at your liking. Don't use black for the shadows! Use a dark color. I usually use a purple or a brown.
Now with the same color, go on a new layer (Multiply mode), and add extra shadows where light has trouble reaching. This gives more depth to the drawing. (To make this process easier I use the Select Opaque option, by right clicking on the Base Shading layer, down in the menu, and then paint on the new layer)
Now fill the canvas with the light's color (or do like me and duplicate the Flat Colors layer, and recolor it if you want the light to be only on the subject). I'm using yellow since it makes a nice contrast with the purple. Put it in Pin Light mode and change the opacity at your liking.
Aaaand
You could say finished! We could stop here, but if you want some extras, go under the cut:
-EXTRA-
Now I- I can't explain what "Bouncing Lights" and "Sub-Surface Scattering" are, so... go see on internet :''D Basically slap some red and blue over the shadows layer in Overlay mode and voilà
It'd be more noticeable with less light but trust me, it's good
Now let's talk about ambience. We can create many different scenes just by playing with the light and shadow layers! Change their colors, change the blending mode, play with 'em and see what you get:
Also I suggest studying how color schemes work (I'll link you a video down below). I uhh actually kinda suck at color schemes XD but having at least a basic understanding of them it's useful.
And, here's some tutorials that personally helped me a lot:

I like writing for anything I'm currently into and I reblog anything I like to support artists because I can't draw 🫡 (22, she/her but I'm cool with anything)
