‼️Flash warning
Reblog to show your blog is a safe space, or don't, no bad vibes your way if you don't wanna reblog <3
You don’t have to be black, it just means you support us, you stand by us and your for us.
I didn’t have a place for some of my presents because my rooms kinda small and weirdly shaped so I moved my dresser and used a chair my mom didn’t want to make a small mental health corner! It’s not quite done yet, I’m gonna add one of those wall bookshelves to the wall behind the chair, hang the pin board under the painting, and get little hooks and invisible string to hang the little ducks from the ceiling, but I think it looks nice so far!
The crochet was done by my friend and I love all of the little plushies that I’ve gotten from them. I personally like sitting in small/enclosed spaces but my rooms doesn’t have any, so this little nook thing is nice. I made sure that it wasn’t too enclosed because I have some friends who have claustrophobia but it’s still enclosed enough to be comfy. I also have a little heater that’s just big enough to close off the space used to get in and out. I’m really excited about this, and it has some plugs so I can charge my phone or computer while using the space!
I made cinnamon muffins! Also it’s like 2:00 am and I just finished.
This post is specifically to inform people about the new bill Trump is trying to pass. Reminder to all people to stay safe and strong during this time. Don’t be afraid to message me on here if you need someone to talk to.
Last night he announced that he was going to pass a bill banning anyone under the age of 19 from receiving gender affirming care. Unfortunately this bill will likely pass because a lot of people, even if they support the LGBTQ+ community, believe that people shouldn’t be getting gender affirming care until at least 18. Eventually this bill could be used to try and get rid of gender affirming care all together. Please stay safe, especially if you’re part of a minority and/or a minor.
I got more pins!
The thin pink and gold one says “you are beautiful” and the gold star says “doing my best” but it’s a bit difficult to see.
Alright so we just finished our drama performance and I am both exhausted and very awake so, before I pass out, I want to talk about the live action Snow White. I don’t love that Disney is making all of the live action remakes but I don’t really care about changing the race. I think diversity is very important and the fact that Disney is actually trying is nice. The one thing I will say is that I think they did the wrong thing for inclusivity in Snow White. I think what they should have done was make Snow White a person with albinism, which would still bring awareness to a population that doesn’t have a lot of awareness online. It would logically make sense because the whole “skin as white as snow” obviously but also she would probably wear a wig because, considering the time Snow White is set in, she would probably struggle with extreme discrimination and public pressure (especially since she is royalty). Also wigs in this time were considered a status symbol, which also works with the whole princess thing. Another thing is that rouge was a common way to get red lips in 16th century Germany, which is the time and place Snow White is set in. I know I’m definitely not the first person to think of this idea but honestly it makes a lot of sense. I just kinda needed to talk about this somewhere and I want to know people’s thoughts one this.
So I am bored and midterms are happening right now for me so I have decided to distract myself by sharing some random Greek Mythology facts. These might have some NSFW facts so I’m putting the facts under the cut
Fact #1: the word that is translated as virgin (ex: the virgin goddess like Athena, Artemis, and Hestia) is actually more like the word maiden. Basically the “virgin” goddesses aren’t forced to be virgins, they just can’t/don’t want to marry. The best example I can think of to demonstrate this is the muses, since they have several children (like Orpheus) but they are considered “virgin” goddesses.
Fact 2: the underworld in Greek Mythology is also known as Hades, like the god that rules it. Hades is also not the god of death, that would be Thanatos, Hades is the god of the dead meaning he decides what happens to them after they die.
Fact 3: despite the fact that incest and rape was common among the gods it was actually majorly frowned upon in Ancient Greece. Mortals were held to different standards than the gods and there are several myths that show how the Ancient Greeks found incest/rape between mortals taboo and wrong.
Fact 4: the depiction of gods/goddesses would vary depending on the city-state that was depicting them. One of the best examples is Athena, in ancient Athens they typically focused more on her relation to wisdom and crafts but Sparta focused more on her role in battle strategy and warfare.
Fact 5: Hestia was actually very important to the Ancient Greeks but she is not very well known because she’s only in maybe three myths. She was believed to stay in Olympus so she was never really shown during myths which makes it difficult to find information on her.
Fact 6: the actual way that Cerberus is spelled is Kerberos but Kerberos is also a computer system so Cerberus became the more common way to say the name so that people wouldn’t get confused.
Fact 7: the most common myth about Medusa (the one where she was assaulted by Poseidon and was turned into a Gorgon by Athena) is actually a Roman myth, not a Greek Myth.
Fact 8: the Phoenix did exist in Greek Mythology but instead of being red and orange like fire it was believed to be purple, because it was associated with Phoenicia which was famous for a purple dye that was produced from conch shells.
