I think it’ll be important to remember that Athena, the god with the best PR, would be/was the goddess of propaganda…

She’s the goddess of “smart war”, and propaganda is definitely part of this. I mean, just look at Arachne: the mortal make a piece of art that deviate from the “authorized” narrative, and bang, changed in a spider so the gods get the last word on what is true.

Likewise, with Medusa (reminder: before Ovid, Medusa was born a monster and wasn’t raped by Poseidon/Neptune), she silence a victim of abuse of power by dehumanizing her and putting her in the category of monsters. And pull the “But she did it to protect Medusa”, because latter she’s the one guiding Perseus to murder Medusa, and mount her head on the aegis. If that was a protector, you wouldn’t need enemies.

Ovid being himself an exile because he made a poem the emperor didn’t like, it wouldn’t be a far stretch that Athena in the Metamorphoses is meant to represent his patrons who abandoned him the instant the emperor got mad. A goddess that is supposedly a protector of the artists, but really just ensure that arts follow the narrative of the gods.

Men are not bad. Even if they're cis, het, white, abled, christian, and whatever other privileged identity that can be applied. Men can be bad, but badness is not a male trait. It is not inherent nor exclusive to men. There are amazing men. There are horrible women. No characteristics are inherent to any gender. It is okay, wonderful even, to be a man. Just like it is with any other gender.

I don’t think a Shakespeare production needs to be innovative to be good.

A lot of the best stage and film adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays are relatively simple and straightforward. They don’t use flashy tricks or strange setting choices. The directors simply let the text shine. You don’t need to put a new spin on Shakespeare to make it good; all you need are good actors who understand the text.

Of course, I have nothing against creative production choices! I love them when they’re done well. But I think we need to bring back our appreciation for well-done, classical stagings, because they’re absolutely delightful.

UPDATES ON THE JOSH FIGHT!

According to Fawcette, the main streamer of the event, the amount of Joshes who turned up is about 75-100 Joshes. Any streams are really laggy, but for those who couldn’t tune in here are some pics:

These were taken from a laggy stream, but as you can see the turnout is massive. The crowd is estimated to be at least 200 people.

The latest winner from the series of Josh fights is “Tiny Josh”, a four year old child who was inducted into the battle. As of right now, the bearer for the title of “The One True Josh” is the original Josh Swain.

Updates will continue if the stream stops lagging.
