so i did a presentation for a party and here it is...

i wanted people to think it was innocent so…

^ this is when my guy friend A was like: “Oh he’s hot. i’m not crazy right? he’s fucking hot???” and we all started talking about his lips

A Father’s Love

Ben always looked forward to Father’s Day. On Chandrila, it’s a planet-wide holiday celebrating paternal figures, not just sires, but for Ben, he’s worked for weeks on a gift for Han. His Dad is his best friend, his partner in crime, and he wants to make sure he knows.

Concentrating hard with his tongue sticking out the side of his mouth, Ben sits at the kitchen table, ignoring his lunch that the house droid has set out for him in favour of carrying on with Han’s gift. He’s made it all by himself this year, he’s six years old after all! Well, Mother has helped him a little, buying him the paper and pens for him but the rest has all been Ben; the cutting, the glueing, the writing.

“Daddy!” Ben charges out of the kitchen and throws himself into Han’s open arms.

“Missed you, kiddo,” Han smiles. Ben giggles when his father ruffles his messy hair, giving him a big kiss on the cheek. It’s been days since they’ve seen each other, what with Han working, but it’s all worth it for Ben despite how much he misses him, just to be swept up in his father’s arms. “Hey, now. You’ve got paint all over your cheeks, Benjy. What’s been going on?”

“It’s Daddy’s Day!” Ben exclaims, wriggling out of Han’s hold to dart back into the kitchen, grabbing the gift he’s been creating. Glitter flutters across the floor as the excited boy runs back to his curious father, skidding slightly on the wooden floor in his little socks. “Happy Daddy’s Day, Daddy!”

Ben hands over his gift to Han when the latter squats down to his son’s level. It’s a handmade rosette, made from red and blue cut card, decorated with golden glitter and ‘galaxy’s best dad’ written in black marker in its centre. Ben doesn’t see, but Han’s eyes brim with tears.

“Mom must’ve have helped you with that spelling,” Han jokes.

“Mm hmmm,” Ben climbs up onto Han’s knee, grabbing hold of his leather jacket to help him. “Mama helped. But it’s for you, Dad! For the Fawcon!”

“For the Falcon, huh? You think this little ribbon will go nice in the cockpit?”

“Yeah! So everyone can see that my Daddy is the best!”

Han’s free arm cuddles Ben as close to his chest as he can manage. Ben, too, snuggles in to his father, smiling, feeling the happiest he’s ever felt.

“Love you,” Han says. “My little starfighter.”

“I love you too, Daddy.”

“Ren? Ren!”

Kylo blinks hard. Something raw and unsolved sits heavy inside of his chest as he comes back to himself from inside one of his most emotionally charged memories to find that he’s sitting in the empty training facility of the CP troopers with Captain Phasma standing before him.

“Phasma.”

“Sir,” she replies. “Are you…?”

“Fine,” he says bluntly, rubbing his eyes, glad that the tears haven’t fallen. He can still feel Han’s arms around him, and he’s comforted by it. “Just, uh, killing time.”

“Killing time?”

“Father’s Day,” Kylo says, standing up to grab his fallen training staff. Phasma takes the hint and raises hers, ready to duel. “Hux and Aiden kicked me out this morning. He said he had things to do for Father’s Day. Wrapping presents and decorating, he said.”

“Forgive me, sir, but isn’t Aiden a little young to understand?”

Phasma is right; Kylo and Hux’s two year old son won’t fully comprehend the reason for his Dad pushing his Papa out of the door this morning whilst barking orders about Father’s Day preparations but it’s irrelevant.

“And another thing, sir, of you don’t mind me asking.”

“Sure.”

“Aiden was conceived in our labs, he gestated in an artificial womb until he was surgically born. Aren’t you and General Hux his fathers?”

“Technically,” Kylo shrugs. “But Hux gets Mother’s Day to celebrate.”

“Uh. Why?”

“One day for each parent. We flipped a coin. He lost.”

“Ah. I see.”

The pair settle into a rhythm of attacking and blocking but Kylo’s mind remains elusive, half of his consciousness still deep inside of that memory, thinking of Han, wondering if he kept the rosette even after Ben fell. He thinks of Aiden, his beautiful son, and how giving up his life for his wouldn’t need to be given a moment’s consideration. He thinks of the nights that he’s slept in the armchair in Aiden’s nursery just so the boy could sleep peacefully, of the nights that Han would carry a distressed Ben into his own bed and cuddle and talk to him until the nightmares went away.

Suddenly, Kylo understands Han more than he ever has. Sometimes, Kylo thinks, remembering Ben’s time with Han, a hug from a father can take away even the darkest of shadows.
