Hirohisa Soda Super Sentai Quick History Introduction

Hirohisa Soda Super Sentai Quick History Introduction
Hirohisa Soda Super Sentai Quick History Introduction

When it comes to Power Rangers, obviously we all should know by now on where the series was essentially adapted from all the way from the Land of the Rising Sun by one of the long running Tokusatsu shows, Super Sentai. And clearly Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was the biggest legacy on how it all began in 1993 when Sentai’s sixteenth season came to an end, Kyoryu Sentai Zyuuranger, and that anyone should be familiar with the iconic dinosaur motif suits on where it all began. Heck, even we 90s kids should be able to recognized our childhood ranger colors! Red, Black, Blue, Yellow, Pink, and even green!

But neither Power Rangers nor Zyuuranger are not the main topic here. Because when it comes to Zyuuranger of Super Sentai, its predecessor seasons that weren’t adapted before are the main deal on what has gotten me an idea here to talk about my inspirations and love to Japanese Tokusatsu shows!

Hirohisa Soda Super Sentai Quick History Introduction

And basically, this man here is hugely responsible for my love to the early Sentai seasons: Hirohisa Soda. I’ll enlighten short here about this guy here. He is the man with a huge obsession with science! Leading his obsession to be once a creator of the iconic and popular anime, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, and soon leading him to be one of the minor writers for the early Sentai season until 1982 is where he turned Super Sentai the a whole new direction as the baton was passed down to him as main writer. Science. Conflict. Enjoyment. Colorized ranger suits for each respective team.

Hirohisa Soda Super Sentai Quick History Introduction

I make no attempt to hide the facts that I am a huge fan for the older Sentai seasons; even the Hirohisa Soda ones. I mean sure that the early Sentai seasons; especially in the late Showa Era was a biggest piece of history that was an early sign of impact to the Heisei Era as most notably the 2000s when it comes to much darker and serious driven tones and external arcs to most later seasons, and that things were stepping into a new generation when it comes to the process of evolution to Tokusatsu. Common nowadays. But Hirohisa Soda was fully responsible for being the man helming the Super Sentai room for concepts, identities, shapes, and the seasons themselves in general before leaving the Sentai building after Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman while leaving Chojin Sentai Jetman straighten up Sentai as the main diversion; even ironically enough to pay homage to Soda’s Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. That cannot be debated on what has gotten Super Sentai to be back in the 80s in Japan. You just gotta picture yourself in Japan and exchange one’s memory because he made pure history before many other future seasons exist into success based upon the previous seasons that were successful or not.

So what better way to celebrate the 45th series entry to Super Sentai is to look back at the seasons themselves in a complete retrospective and covering most of seasons that Mr.Soda had written, and to explore with a less long winded entry on what neat concepts and potents that Mr.Soda had driven when he was the main writer back in the Golden Age for Tokusatsu.

Whether it be the Chinese Martial Arts aspect of the predated Dairanger of Maskman. The Greek Myth logo of Changeman before the motif of Dairanger as well. A swell team-based with a fancy content of family matters in Fiveman before GogoV and Magiranger. A wacky concept mixture of automobiles and magic from Turboranger before its infamous parody mainly done with Carranger. Or even a larger theme of advanced science in Bioman before Megaranger.

And I say that these later seasons existed just to be highly successive based on what came before those later seasons such as Dairanger, GogoV, Megaranger, Jetman, and Gekiranger. You see, these previous seasons back then where the ones that the future seasons owe it for the sake of influences, whether that those previous seasons have been well successive or not during their time of Japan broadcasting. All owe it to the man who was the huge innovator behind those seasons during his years his in the Sentai building.

So hopefully, I will break down into each entry one by one by analyzing the shows themselves with a quick history, and what was something on what made it work, or not, during the years in Japanese television history. So buckle up for a neat ride cause we’re about to immerse ourselves with a little abridged of retrospect in the land that was responsible for the coloration ranger team aspect of Super Sentai in Japan before we ever had the adaption of Power Rangers…
