Happy year
It *is* a problem that charismatic species are often focused on for conservation at the expense of less charismatic but important species, but threatened species that are the subject of a lot of public outreach and education are also typically strategically selected.
I suspect that monarch butterflies are an example of this. Milkweed is a highly valuable plant for pollinators and a host plant for like. 400+ insect species. Getting people to plant it to save monarchs is funny because you're essentially finessing people into saving a ton of other insects that they wouldn't ordinarily care about
"we need more weird gays" you can't handle aces & aros. you can't handle queer-platonic relationships. you can't handle it/its users. you can't handle neopronouns and xenogenders. you can't handle polyamory.
I hate the double standard I see people have in fandom sometimes. So we agree that Scott's relationship with Knives is problematic? Cool. Great.
But then I see some of these people turn around and pair the shit out of Kim and Knives despite being problematic in the exact same way.
Y'all, that is still a grown ass adult with a 17 year old.
Hey guys! This is important so please dont scroll past this.
Wafaa's old blog got shadowbanned, and its just yet another example of how far tumblr will go to silence palestinians when theyre already struggling to get by because of illness, starvation and the constant violence. It should alarm you just how frequent this is becoming with palestinian bloggers having to remake 3-4 times when theyre already living through the worst things imaginable.
If you don't know who she is, Wafaa Alnhal is a woman in her 40s who had left for Egypt a little after the occupation attacked for medical treatment. She has since been working hard to spread her campaign and evacuate her family who she had to leave behind in Gaza, despite her own ongoing struggle with her health issues and making rent.
Initially her goal for her gfm had been 35k, but recently she's had to raise it to 50k because her daughter has gotten hepatitis from the polluted water in Gaza. Her family is suffering- all 15 of them including 4 young children and a newborn baby- and they will have to live with the damage for the rest of their lives. It's taking its toll on Wafaa too, who's had to neglect her own health and wellbeing to raise funds for them.
She's made a new blog @wafs-posts and you all should follow her there to get updates from her on the situation directly. You should be listening to her instead of hearing this from me.
Her gfm is currently at 12k/50k
They still have a long way to go, so please dont let tumblrs censorship slow them down
Her campaign has been verified, and there is a raffle being conducted (by @/ibtisams) to raise funds for her campaign so please give it a look, and consider taking part there are some truly beautiful journals to be won.
Please follow the raffles for palestine account and take a look at the other artwork thats up for grabs too!
let us take a moment and grieve for all the lives lost. so many thousand people have been murdered by the zionist entity in the last fifteen months. palestinians in gaza have lost too much, from friends and family to their homes and livelihood.
this ceasefire is not an end to our solidarity with gaza. we will all be here waiting and praying for palestine to be wholly liberated from the occupation and watch her people be happy and free.
in the meantime, please keep donating to palestinian fundraisers. it is essential to support families planning on rebuilding.
alaa is a mother of two young children. her fundraiser has been verified. i request you to help her by sharing and donating to her gofundme.
please donate here
guys i actually beg of you to not let palestine become an unpleasant flashback, a transient tumblr trend, a hasbeen subject that just faded away. as an arabāand specifically iraqiāgirl, i know what it feels like to have family displaced all over the world as a result of western imperialism. i know what it feels like to not be able to step foot into your homeland because itās no longer safe. as an american iraqi, raised in the us and insulated from my roots, it wasnāt until last summer that i was able to visit iraq for the first time, and even then my family was worried for my safetyāin my own blood country. although nothing like what palestinians are experiencing right now, it might be the tiniest semblance of what it feels like to watch your country disintegrate in front of you.
and this is a universal arab experience. i volunteer weekly at a refugee center that serves middle eastern refugees, and every day i see the longing in their eyes when they speak of where they hail from. itās safe to say that we will be getting a wave of palestinian refugees very soon: just another generation of arabs who canāt inhabit their own country.
arab culture is so rich, so profound, so beautiful. i am tired of being told by the worldāthrough literal genocideāthat it doesnāt mean anything. please never let this be forgotten. free palestine. free palestine. free palestine.

In Gaza, we currently do not find the minimum requirements for human life, and we live a disastrous life that is devastating to humanity.š¢
The painful scene before you expresses the extent of hunger we have reached in Gaza.š
My family is part of this difficult scene, and this video is a small part of the suffering we live through daily.
I issue a call for help to every jealous and free person to share this pain with us, convey our suffering, and provide support in whatever way he can.

Palestinian men and boys in Gaza describe the torture, humiliation, and dehumanization that they suffered during their time as captives of the Israeli occupation forces. āThey forced us to make dogsā sounds,ā one man tells the camera. āIf you refused to do so, they would beat you.ā Another tells the reporter, āWhen they saw us falling asleep, they would come with a lighter and burn our backs with it.ā
āEvery hour was like years,ā the same man says. āThe torture was unbelievable.ā Reports have emerged in recent days of mass roundups, torture, and execution of men and boys in Beit Hanoun and other parts of north Gaza. Detainees were identified by loved ones and others in the community who recognized them from the photos the occupation forces have been releasing.
As more footage and testimony are released, the depth of the horrors inflicted upon our people in Gaza are being brought to light. While we may never know the full extent of those horrors, what we already know is enough for any person of conscience to be able to identify as war crimes that are as depraved as they are systematic.
āMy message for the world is to look at those detainees,ā the final detainee tells viewers. āWe are respected people. We are not animals.ā
