The only way I will accept Spiderman coming into Venom 2

Babysitter Peter Parker gets asked to babysit for Eddie and is handed black goo slime child, Sleeper. (Venom can already tell something is different about Peter, so they decide Peter is Good Choice.)

Baby Sleeper climbs on ceiling? No problem for Peter, sticky feet, Parker!

Baby trying to slip out window? Not so fast with web slinging teen boy!!

Baby won’t stop crying?? GREAT, neither will Peter!!

Contest to see if Sleeper or Peter’s webs can stretch further.

Eddie comes home to find Peter on the ceiling with Sleeper, does not react. Peter freaks out and tries to explain that he’s actually not weird or crazy and Eddie, completely blank faced, just goes, “Kid, I have an alien living inside my body 24/7. You being a superhero or supervillain is only like the sixth most shocking thing to ever happen to me.” And he gives Peter a 100 dollar tip and wishes him a good night.

More symbabies please? I love your ficlets!

The gravel beside the hedge crunches and two worn trainers shuffle into view. Sleeper tenses, trying to scoot back further under the hedge.

The shoes shift, one threadbare knee comes into view, and then a large dark eye.

Sleeper whimpers softly to himself, tensing to run-

The eye blinks, then drops down a bit further- the dirty face of a young boy. He makes soft little squeak-kissing noises, rubs his fingers together.

It’s not- threatening. Not yet, anyway. Sleeper shivers, it’s still raining outside. He doesn’t want to run.

“Here bunny.” The boy reaches very slowly under the hedge, still rubbing his fingers together. “It’s okay.”

Sleeper’s nose twitches, it don’t mean anything to him- but the host wants to come closer- the little fingers suggest the boy has food, and the rabbit is hungry.

He hesitates, but when the boy’s hands stretch in almost far enough to touch his fur, he scuttles back into the roots of the bush.

“Okay.” The hand pulls away. “Just stay here.”

He stands up, and the tatter trainers crunch away. Sleeper huffs in relief, suddenly aware of how fast his little rabbit’s heart is beating. The host stirs fretfully in the back of their mind. It’s hungry, it’s never gone so long without hay.

There’s a little wispy grass under the bush. Sleeper gives it a tentative nibble, it’s tasteless and stringy, and the rabbit looks longingly at the thick lawn just beyond the hedge.

There’s a clatter of pebbles, and the trainers are back. Sleeper shoots back into the roots, huddling down in the shadows.

“I’m here.” The boy sounds out of breath. “Just thought- you might be hungry? And rabbits like vegetables?”

He kneels down again, and reaches his hand out- not as far in as before, but Sleeper’s nose twitches at the strange, faintly alien smell.

But not alien to the host’s mind.

Food.

The boy opens his hand, revealing a few slightly crushed lettuce leaves. “We didn’t have any carrots.” Apologetic.

The host desperately wants to lean in and nibble. Sleeper hovers; is this safe? People wouldn’t be giving food to animals they wanted to kill, right? But what about- poison?

He really wants his parents here.

“It’s okay.” The boy whispers, “You can eat, it’s safe.”

He remembers Eddie gently moving him out of the way of a cluster of bottles- ‘ah-ah, that’s poisonous. Not safe, not for kiddies.’

Poison isn’t for children to use, so the lettuce is probably safe. Sleeper shuffles forwards, far enough to lean in and snatch a mouthful.

It’s wet and floppy, slippery between his teeth. Sleeper grimaces, but the rabbit is delighted, munching and munching, and when the boy’s hand moves away, just a little, they shift forwards to keep eating.

Back and back and suddenly Sleeper stops. They’re out in the open, on the gravel. The boy is squatted beside them, adding little strips of lettuce to the pile in his hand.

“It’s okay.” And his voice is soft, gentle. He’s not his parents, but- it’s soothing all the same, and Sleeper really, really wants to believe everything is okay right now.

The boy’s free hand lowers, and touches them on the shoulders. Both Sleeper and the rabbit freeze, but the boy doesn’t grab them, doesn’t hurt. His hand is gentle, running through their fur in gentle strokes.

“‘m not gonna hurt you.” The boy continues, stroking them over and over, pausing the scratch behind their ears. It feels so good, almost like being held by Venom and Eddie, Sleeper slumps down, rolls on his side and closes his eyes. The panic is fading, and under it, he’s exhausted.

They hear the coming rain before they feel it, a low rhythmic beat on the roofs and tree leaves. The heavy drops splash on their ears, on the soft coat of underfur at their belly. Sleeper starts up, trying to fluff up his rapidly soaking fur.

The boy pulls up his coat to shield them. “Hey,” he whispers. “Want to come in with me? It’s dry in there, and I can get you more food.”

Sleeper looks up and down the street. A car passes in a haze of rain, slashing up a wave of gutterwater. No Venom, no Eddie. They can’t stay here all night.

He hops closer to the boy, and when he reaches down, doesn’t try to run. The boy picks them up gently, one arm under their bottom, bracing all four paws on his chest. It’s- not great, but okay, and the boy is warm and dry.

“Well done.” The boy whispers, and hurries into the house.

They clatter in through the front door, and Sleeper catches a glimpse of a dark room, a chair and the shimmering screen of a TV- then they’re going up the stairs at top speed. The boy ducks through a door, and quickly closes it behind them.

“Okay.” He whispers, and switches on the light. Sleeper blinks as the sudden blaze of light hurts their eyes.

It’s a small bedroom, a bed half hidden under old clothes, more clothes strewn over the floor. A little desk is huddled by the window, buried in books. The boy shoves the clothes off his bed, and makes a little nest in the blankets. “Here, it’s warm, I’ll just go and-”

“BOY!” A roar from downstairs.

The boy tenses, “Just- stay here, okay? I’ll- sort something out-”

“GET DOWN HERE!”

The boy puts them in the nest, strokes them again quickly. “I’ll be right back. I’ll get you more lettuce, okay?”

“DO YOU WANT ME TO FETCH YOU?”

“NO, DAD!” The boy yells back. “Just- don’t move, please. If he sees you-” he winces. “I won’t be long-”

“GET THE FUCK DOWN HERE DYLAN.”

Keep Dylan Brock away from Miles

I don’t hate Dylan Brock. I think the idea of a kid who hates Spider-Man but loves Venom to be fun. I like how he is and honestly, I have nothing against him except how he was born but again, that is not on his character.

Just keep him away from Miles.

Now the Spidey-Office(which Venom is apart of. don’t get it twisted) has been pushing legacies of everything Spider-Man. Of course there is Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen. Those are the obvious ones. Then you have Starling.

Keep Dylan Brock Away From Miles

Tiana Toomes. Granddaughter of Adrian Toomes and arch enemy of Tombstone. She has been sort of Miles’ Black Cat except she is just a more ruthless anti-hero than she is just bad.

Spider-Zero who is essentially Madame Web.

Keep Dylan Brock Away From Miles

Her job is to watch over the Web of Life. She goes as far to say that after the first one was destroyed, the new one needs to be taken care of by the new Spider-people i.e. not Peter Parker Spider-people.

Kraven’s son or clone of Kraven.

Keep Dylan Brock Away From Miles

Who looks exactly like Kraven but without the suicidal tendencies. Kraven killed himself again after yet another Hunt, but this time he had the decency to pass on his legacy to his son.

Keep Dylan Brock Away From Miles

Ana Kravinoff, Kraven’s Inhuman and self-renounced daughter.

Keep Dylan Brock Away From Miles

Billy Connors or Billy Connors’ clone since the Lizard ate his son and had to clone him because Slott said whoops.

Keep Dylan Brock Away From Miles

And Normie Osborn who was already taken over by the Carnage Symbiote. And he is the grandson of Norman Osborn, son of Harry and Liz Allen. He is the heir to Alchemax. And he is essentially Norman Osborn Jr.

And mark my words. There probably will be some girl or boy or someone coming out of that Black Cat book who Felicia is going to mentor or some shit. Superior Spider-Man appears to be ending soon and that conclusion seems to be that classic Otto is back.

Now you may think I am tripping but this has been accross 4 different books in under a year. And within that year, Dylan was created. And then all of the sudden Sleeper shows up. And both Dylan and Miles get roped in Absolute Carnage together. In fact, Miles was literally only solo other character outside of Eddie’s Venom that has been involved with Absolute Carnage for three issues. Everyone else has given the issue only 1 even fucking Amazing Spider-Man.

Keep Dylan Brock Away From Miles

And I will be real with Venom fans. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that, in a period where there is no way Anne and Eddie could have had sex, Dylan was conceived through dubious means such as giving birth via Symbiote bonding. Cates created Dylan for a reason. Cates was the only writer who featured Miles Morales after Bendis left Marvel and his last issue with the character ended until Miles own book came about. That Dylan is around the age of Miles just like Normie just like Billie and just like Tiana. Mayday or Annie May ain’t even the twinkle in Peter’s eye yet in Marvel 616 yet. Miles getting transported to 616 in a rather crude way. And suddenly the majority of Spider-Man’s rogues start having kids around his age and shit or their kids have powers or are in positions to have powers?

Billy has been in Spider-Man for as long as his father and now he gets his father’s Lizard powers? Normie was created over 30 years ago and now he suddenly starts being crucial to the storyline? Kraven has always been...fruitful but now he suddenly has two heirs to his name that would look at Miles and say it’s destiny or some shit. Dylan’s hamfisted origin turns to a writer just quickly and hastily trying to create an foil to Miles with a ‘here, Eddie for no logical reason has a kid too.’ Then you suddenly bring in the other symbiote child of Venom and Eddie that isn’t evil? Vulture now has a granddaughter and as soon as the Web of Life is destroyed, there is a new one with a new watcher? Naw. Spidey-office, this is not a coincidence. It is purposeful.

...So Cates, I have questions?

I am waiting until the event is finished to do a super post on Donny Cates Absolute Garbage. Until then, Cates continues to show that he cannot form sequence of events and just throws scenes in for no reason.

...So Cates, I Have Questions?

In AC #2 and MM: AC #1, we were left with Miles becoming a symbiote host. Cates doesn’t use his pieces well because for one Eddie and Mac were safely away from the Carnage horde at the end of both issues. As soon as this issue picks up, Miles transformation is complete and he is suddenly attacking Eddie and the Carnage Cult is surrounding both again.

This sounds like a nitpick but as I pointed out in that there is a right way to chart action scenes in comics and I refuse to lay the blame at Stegman because he is simply providing the art to Cates’ script. Also it continues to be a problem in the book and it involves a major scene.

...So Cates, I Have Questions?

Why couldn’t Venom just do this earlier? Why bother with the several page melodrama of Eddie angering over letting Miles down when it was his fault that he got captured in the first place since you want to demand Scorpion to man up for no reason? Why is the Symbiote getting bold and basically putting himself in danger to just kill Osborn or is it Cletus...who the fuck knows anymore.

So Venom takes Carnage back to the warehouse and to safety to find this.

...So Cates, I Have Questions?

Now Spider-Man explains to Eddie that the Avengers know that he is helping which is okay. But I have questions because it obvious why a certain character is there. If Ben Grimm is there, why not bring in Reed Richards instead of Bruce Banner? Yes, Banner is a genius too but Mr. Fantastic has familiarity with symbiotes and alien biology. Banner’s field has to do with Nuclear Physics, Physics, and energy transference. This is just the writer assuming all geniuses are the same in order to display a pivotal scene that is complete macho bait.

Oh hey, remember when I mentioned Cates lack of sequence of events?

...So Cates, I Have Questions?
...So Cates, I Have Questions?
...So Cates, I Have Questions?
...So Cates, I Have Questions?
...So Cates, I Have Questions?

...How did Carnage find their hideout? How did Carnage sneak into the hideout and become a copy of Eddie and how did no one think to realize why there are two Eddies in the same building?

That is the sequence of events, fam. There are no missing pages. Carnage just finds Eddie and Peter(Eddie casually dropping Peter’s name and alias to a serial killer god wannabe) and there is no explanation at all as to how 2 geniuses and Eddie got caught so fucking off guard by something so simple to realize. It makes people look stupid.

And the edgy ass dialogue? “I am sex and violence?” Cringe as fuck(I am aware he is quoting a book but whatever).

I am not a Venom fan. I was roped in this shit show because it involved Miles and Andi. So dealing with Cates, who is being hailed for his ‘writing’, is like one massive disappointment after another.

The issue is that he is desperately trying to exonerate Eddie while making the Symbiote look evil. The Symbiote is bringing the worst of Eddie and it’s never Eddie’s fault ever. Like you see the scene where the Symbiote is trying to relieve Peter of the responsibility of bringing Symbiotes on Earth(a retcon that Cates made btw) only for Eddie to make the same mistake and manipulate Peter’s guilt for his sake. But does the writing ever call Eddie out? No.

The Symbiote is the wild one for wanting to kill Carnage while Eddie wants to protect his own kin as if those two ideas are at odds. All of the sudden, Eddie values human life because he has a kid now? And it’s not even human. Null/Carnage is literally killing swathes of people and taking over people’s bodies while infecting them with a codex. At this point, Null is a parasitic disease.

But Eddie doesn’t trust the Symbiote and feels like it’s trying to control him and manipulate his life so he just does stupid things due to this creator forced drama. And it is creator forced because it was Cates that made the relationship between the two abusive when there was no such tension earlier. You erased the one sole motivator of Eddie, his sister, and claimed that she never existed. You made it seem like it was the Symbiote that was giving Eddie cancer intentionally so Eddie would always need it. You made the Symbiote use Eddie’s DNA and rape and force impregnate his ex-wife because women in this series are only good when they are sex slaves to an alien cult, raped to have children of dubious consent, and just a lie of a manipulation. Honestly, Cates’ Venom run should be held in the same regard as One More Day and I say this as an avid Spider-Man fan.
