Hospitals and medical centers across the country are asking sewers to make face masks to protect out health workers. You can google “how to sew face masks for hospitals” to find out where fabric masks are being requested.
Stillwater Medical Center is asking sewers to follow the face mask pattern from buttoncounter.com here.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Citing shortages, Deaconess Health System, including Henderson’s Methodist Health, has asked the public to sew face masks for staff fighting coronavirus.
“This does follow CDC protocols that you can find on their website that if all other supplies are not available, that handmade masks that meet certain criteria are acceptable,” Deaconess spokeswoman Becca Scott said.
The release with the video, pattern and instructions was posted to the Deaconess Facebook page Thursday morning and is available at www.deaconess.com/masks. A PDF of the pattern is available here and embedded at the bottom of this article.
Deaconess has “a sample video” about how to make the masks, which Scott said will be sterilized when they come in.
Additional Resources for Open Source or Volunteer COVID-19 Projects:
One of my favorite how-to sites is Instructables. The DIY Cloth Face Mask has almost 100,000 views. It is a step-by-step instruction for those who need it. Kudos to ashevillejm.
In 2006, CDC released a Simple Respiratory Mask design using heavyweight t-shirts in its Emerging Infectious Diseases journal. More of an academic post, but some ideas in it.
A Facebook group was formed last week: Open Source COVID19 Medical Supplies. It is worth a visit — in just a few short days there are 20,000-plus members and volunteers.
If you are looking for some research and street-level testing of various materials for DIY mask-making, this post from Smart Air Filters is exceptional: What Are The Best Materials for Making DIY Masks? It also includes a few great links at the end of it.
Written for @symbruary Day 25: “finding a host”. Hey look I finally wrote about someone other than the Venom symbiote! Ven symby’s still there, but just as a watchful mom.
Welcome to week four of daily symbiote speed writes, the game where the continuity’s made up and canon deaths don’t matter.

Peter shuffled out of his bedroom to make coffee.
He froze, staring at the half dozen symbiotes huddled together on his living room carpet.
The symbiotes stared back. A hulking green-and-black humanoid sitting amongst the smaller sludges said, “Hey.”
“Hey.” Peter turned around, went back into his bedroom, and shut the door.
He opened the door again. They were still there. Nuts. “What.”
“We’re just using your phone,” the green one said.

A friend asked me how I draw feet/shoes so I made this quick thing for them on how I breakdown feet when drawing. Thought it might be useful to someone else.

Color study from a photo
Some notes I put together for my CDA Class. Just stuff that I use. Take with grain of salt.
- All Ghost Rider hosts suffer from intense insomnia. When the Rider is in full control the host is often forced into a relaxed state within the void of their shared mind-space, and when they come to they find they don’t need to sleep much at all. So, they just take cat-naps at random.
Robbie doesn’t suffer from this since his possessing vengeful spirit isn’t a true Rider.
- Hosts of Riders don’t eat much. When you spend a lot of your time as a walking skeleton on fire with no stomach to speak of, food isn’t a big priority.
- Riders are fiercely protective of their host. For some Riders it’s almost an obsession. For the safety and well being of the host echos the well being of the Rider. If the host is in any emotional or physical distress - even if it’s a small insignificant issue - the Rider will be far more prone to act even more aggressively than normal, and will gladly act out that vengeful aggression on the person(s) responsible 100 fold.
- A Riders and Hosts personality tend to merge a small fraction. Johnny and Zarathos both crack their knuckles / wrists. Danny and Noble talk very similarly.
- There are some techniques Riders learn from each other. Zarathos learned how to do the Penance Stare from Noble, and Noble learned how to summon his ride with hellfire from Zarathos.
- The biggest hint that Riders are not truly demonic is the fact that Devil Traps and holy water have no effect on them. Riders can easily pass over a salt line or a devil trap with no problems, and holy water just makes them wet and even more pissy.
- Following the Riders protective nature toward their host; when it comes time to switch back the Rider tries to find the safest place possible for their host to wake up in. Noble always goes to the cemetery of his awakening. Zarathos, however, is a bit half-assed about it mostly because he finds it amusing as hell to screw with Blaze by leaving him in weird places.
- Riders are mainly solitary because of their highly aggressive nature they tend to be very domineering. However, they enjoy being in the company of other Riders rare more so than any other sentient creature.
- When Riders first met each other they immediately know their hosts name, their Riders name, age, where they are from, and how they became a Rider all without speaking a word.
- Ghost Riders are highly in-tune with their senses, but tends to rely on their sense of smell most. They can detect innocent blood being spilled and the scent of a sinners soul long before the Rider is even close to seeing them.
- Riders and their Host posses a kind of ESP that lets them know of supernatural/magical activity before it happens. This also bleeds over to the host and makes the host know of the supernatural or of a persons sins. This ability also lets them know when another Rider has powered up even if they are across the planet. NOTE: The riders must know each other very well for this to happen.
| I noticed for some reason there are no Blackheart x Johnny Blaze (Ghost Rider) fics, so I had no choice but to write one. I don’t know if anyone will read this, but regardless of how many reads it gets, I had to. |
Sample: Blaze hops off the bike walking fearlessly toward Blackheart - his boots squishing in the mud.
“Ok. I’m here. Where’s Roxanne?”
“Where’s the contract?” Blackheart cocks a brow.
Johnny sighs and pulls the rolled up script from the back of his jeans, holding it out for the hellion to see.
“Bring it here.” The demon motions with his hand.
“Show me the girl.” Johnny commands.
“We’re playing by my rules, Johnny. You’ll get the girl, when I get what I want.”
“I don’t trust you.”
“Well, Johnny…you’re gonna have to. How else do you plan on getting her back?”
The Rider grits his teeth. He knows Blackheart’s right. The demon has an army and he’s just one man.
He sighs angrily as he holds it out to the demon.
Blackheart grabs it out of the Rider’s hand and quickly unscrolls it to make sure it’s not a fake. A pleased grin makes its way across his handsome face. “Suck it, dad.” He laughs, rolling it back up.
He snaps his fingers and one of his henchmen appears, grabbing the contract and vanishing into thin air.
“Where’s Roxanne?” Johnny asks, starting to feel annoyed.
“Ah yes. The girl.” Blackheart smiles as he starts to walk circles around the Ghost Rider.
“See.. there’s just one more thing.…”
“Oh no.” Johnny interrupts. “You said if I gave you the contract, you’d let her go. Now where is she.” The Rider bravely walks up to the demon, grabbing him by the collar of his cloak and slamming him into the side of an old church.
Blackheart laughs. If only Johnny knew that he was only enjoying this manhandling.
“Relax, Johnny. You’ll get her back, just as promised. I just want one little favor.”
“What?” Johnny snarls - his grip growing tighter in frustration.
“A kiss.”

I’m sure a ton of people already know how to do this, but I only learned recently, so I wanted to share one of my favorite thumbnailing tricks! Color matching is SUPER helpful to quickly map out potential color schemes :D
[EDIT] this is in Adobe Photoshop, sorry for forgetting to mention that!
