The English band Faustus created this beautiful song based around the legend of the Gurt Dog of Somerset. It was featured on their October 2016 album Death and Other Animals. The song highlights the protective nature of the Gurt Dog and tells a tale of a child that wandered at night only to be ushered home by a large, gentle canine friend.
Soundly dream, Sweetly dream, Close your ears and pray. Gurt Dog howls, On the prowl, For children who’ve run away.
A muzzle pushed into my palm, Velvet it was and warm. The hills were kind, the moor was small, I’d soon be safely home.
He galloped me up to my door, I stretched to kiss his nose. Then climbed back into my fleece-lined bed, Dry down to my clothes.
I went to a book fair today and bought a bundle of book plates depicting marsupials and relatives. I will be scanning these and posting them.
This grainy image has very little information surrounding it. All that is said about it is that it was taken in 1923 in Cobalt, Ontario, and is supposedly of Old Yellow Top - a Bigfoot-like creature that is said to roam Ontario. Old Yellow Top is said to be called such because, unlike other Bigfoot sightings, this one always has blond colored hair on its head. It is thought to be the oldest known photograph of a Bigfoot-like creature.
The more modern interest in the legendary Loch Ness Monster was ignited after several sightings that took place in 1933. One of the sightings was recorded in the Inverness Courier in May. The witnesses of the May encounter reported “an enormous animal rolling and plunging” on the surface of the water. In June of the same year, George Spicer and his wife claimed to have seen an unknown creature cross the road on which they were traveling until it reached the waters of the loch and vanished. Spicer said that the creature was about 4 feet tall and 25 feet long with a strangely long neck that was a little thicker than an elephant’s trunk. The creature had no visible legs.
