The Empire are Space Nazis.
Louder for the people in the back: THE EMPIRE ARE SPACE NAZIS.
Whatever else they are, whatever representations of more modern evils they might be used as, The Empire was created to be Space Nazis.

Current favorite ship dynamic: THEY’RE IN LOVE! …they’re stupid… but THEY’RE IN LOVE!
“the tradition and honour of house targaryen dies…with them”
Daemon / Caraxes and Rhaenys / Meleys are, to me at least, the last of the great Targaryen Dragon Riders. Aegon doesn’t have the same bond with Vhagar, Rhaenyra is queen first and dragon rider second, Aegon doesn’t speak Valyrian, and all the other kids die too young to really grow into their heritage. Even Danaerys is never really able to bring that tradition and honour back, as she has to try to figure the dragons out on her own. With Rhaenys dead, Daemon is the last true dragon rider.
RIP to the Queen Who Never Was, unequivocally my favorite HOTD character.
episode 4 of house of the dragon… oh I’m in TEARS
meleys was a dragon with some of the most loyal riders out there. alyssa brought viserys and daemon on her back as newborns. rhaenys refused to leave dangerous spaces without her. and when rhaenys told meleys to attack, meleys complies knowing full well it was a death sentence because she loves and trusts rhaenys that much.
and here’s the thing: you see aegon and sunfyre have somewhat of a sweet moment before battle. there’s a relationship there that honestly could have been nearly as loyal as that of meleys and rhaenys. but aegon is so hypersensitive and relentless that after this he will go on to push sunfyre into things before either of them have healed and things which defy the very magic dragons were born from (kinslaying). that paired with aegon’s lack of high valyrian fluency makes for a complete lack of understanding of why targaryens have dragons and of the bonds which have made their house so worthy for so many years. it just spits in the face of their house, as does the moment immediatelt after where aemond nearly commits his second act of kinslaying in less than a couple months. again, it’s a complete carnal sin and fails to present a united front which feels disgraceful to the targaryen name.
and so part of why it’s so heartbreaking to watch meleys and rhaenys die is because those two just get it and losing them feels like the tradition and honour of house targaryen dies a little bit with them in that moment.
I hope eve best knows we love her to bits and she just delivered such a powerful, magical, and dignified performance 🥹✊🏻
"There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Remember this.
Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause.
Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. And then remember this: the Imperial need for control is desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that.
And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire's authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege.
Remember this. Try."
Not to get all philosophical or anything, but that’s like a really good metaphor.
People who start out with everything and lose half are upset, but people who start out with nothing and gain half are excited.
So maybe you were asking the right question, because whether someone’s an optimist or a pessimist can have a lot to do with how the liquid got there in the first place.
when i was a kid i used to respond to the "glass half full/half empty" question by asking how the liquid in the glass got there in the first place. nobody ever gave me a chance to explain my reasoning so i'm doing it now
if you have a glass and it has some liquid in it, up to the halfway line, whether it is empty or full depends on what happened before the question was asked. if you started with a full glass and poured half out until only half remained, the glass is half empty, because if you continued pouring it would be fully empty. however, if you started with an empty glass and poured liquid from another container into the glass up to the halfway line, the glass is half full because if you continued pouring it would be all the way full. logical, no?
i was 13 years old when somebody finally told me it was supposed to be some kind of optimism/pessimism thing. i always thought it was a riddle that nobody let me solve
