I stand with trans people, especially trans women <3

Not just because I'm trans myself but because I believe everyone deserves respect, dignity and their rights.

We are strong and we will overcome any challenge you or anyone else throws at us. We have proved our strength and courage time and again. This will be no different.

You gonna do anything or make any statement about the rampant transmisogyny on this hellsite, especially in cases like predstrogen recently? Or yall gonna stay silent and keep letting/making us get pushed off of it.

I have a number of asks about this, so this is to address all of them, I won't do each individually.

We generally do not comment on individual cases, but because there seems to be mass misinformation around this, I will make an exception and comment on predstrogen.

First, Tumblr has a number of LGBT+ including trans people on staff, and they see things from the inside fully, and they're not protesting this case.

Why do we wrongly have a transphobe reputation? We did have an external contract moderator last year that was making transphobic moderation (and also selling moderation, criminally). As soon as we were aware that person was fired, and we later terminated the entire relationship with that contracting firm and have brought almost everything in-house (at great cost). I have previously commented on this publicly, several times.

I am not aware of any Automattician (people who work at Automattic and Tumblr) who has made any transphobic moderation actions. If it's reported it is investigated immediately, if anything were found that person would be terminated for cause immediately.

In predstrogen's case in addition to some mistagged sexually explicit posts, which on its own wouldn't be that bad, we have documented cases of harassment. Most importantly, and why they are banned from Tumblr for life, is they made threats of violence against Tumblr staff.

That is never okay. Threats of violence is not protected speech. We will work with police and FBI where appropriate. I just got a death threat yesterday from someone mad about predstrogen, and that account was immediately terminated.

So regardless of whether you still think Tumblr staff is somehow a bunch of transphobes, know that threats of violence or death are still not acceptable and will result in immediate and serious action. Know that when you rile people up, they can do dumb things with possibly permanent consequences.

To have her transition timeline online in a spot she felt she could be seen and connect to people. Utter rancid dogshit of a human being. Petty. Pathetic. Spineless. All this when there has been fire under his ass for this behavior before. Erasing years of pictures and art and a whole person from her online life is sickening.

"I think we all have to remember that we share this world with one another. The world doesn't belong to anyone of us, individual or organisation. We are merely living here and we should treat the world and every creature that lives in it with respect."

I think this reigns true, especially now with all of the cruelty in the world. People always think about power and how they can influence as many people as possible to do their bidding. I think this is the wrong way to think. No one, not even the most powerful people, own the world and I don't think anyone should. The world has always been ours to share and care for.

Let's keep it that way and continue to respect one another and the world we live in.

Use the OTW contact form and the AO3 feedback form to voice your displeasure. Additionally, inform them exactly how you will be withdrawing support until this issue is resolved.

Stop donating to AO3. This is an obvious one, but important. If you have previously donated, but will no longer be doing so, be sure to say it in your feedback form submission!

Switch fanfiction sites. Both for reading, AND for uploading. Alternatives include WattPad, Fanfiction.net, tumblr itself, or even hosting your fanfiction on a site of your own, via Neocities. Don’t want to stop using AO3’s tagging system? Check out SquidgeWorld, which uses AO3’s open-source code. It even has a rule against CSEM! While AO3 doesn’t get money from ad revenue, seeing the number of visitors drop will certainly get the message across.

Encourage others to do the same, and spread the word!
