like i get that I built on the edge of the bulb zone but CMON MAN!!!! like they NEVER got this close before the base was built and now the only thing I can hear is their annoying ass buzzing. They're even guarding my moon pool so i cant leave without getting ready to fucking book it and theres no "oh just lure them away and let them kill you" because im in HARDCORE MODE!!

why orange cats are stupid little dipshits

after doing a bit of googling, i cannot find a single actual study that has been done to determine why orange cats are considered stupid, but i have a theory.

its because orange cats are mostly male

now thats not me being "heehoo men stoopie" (very stupid trans man), its like a valid theory. 80% of orange cats are male (quick google search results) because the gene for being orange is linked to the X chromosome, so most gingers are male.

so i propose an experiment.

we take two groups of several common coat colors/patterns of domestic shorthairs (since those are the most common housecat (another quick google search). each of the 2 groups for each coat will have 100 individuals, one group with the average male/female ratio of that coat normally (for gingers that would be 80 males, and 20 females) and the second group would be 50/50 male female.

then, follow the cats from birth to maturity (~2 years old)(google search) and track "mental" milestones. also important that these cats would be raised in a typical "household" setting you found find a normal domestic cat in, and they would be raised alone.

then, after all that info is gathered, compare the relative intelligence of the cats of the average m/f ratio and the 50/50 m/f ratio. theoretically the average m/f ratio of orange cats should be dumber than the 50/50 ratio of oranges

and then, finally, we (and i) will have a true explanation for why (my) orange cat(s) are fucking stupid as all hell

are we just not supposed to question why the aurora had a shit ton of submersibles on it that dont seem to have any kind of other use outside of the water (such as like an actual spaceship) and then conveniently crashed on an entirely ocean planet

Ryley Mf Robinson genuinely makes me ill

Theres like jack shit we know definitively abt him, but the little bits of personality from his equip animations and the logs of the crew from the Aurora are fucking sick as hell

I genuinely can't remember if he's part of the repair crew, or engineering, etc cuz I havent played in a bit, but the fact he fucking zaps himself with the repair tool is insane. Like u don't just do that shit unless u already know how to handle one

Also I think him being an engineer/repair staff matches up with my playstyle of fucking around, finding out, and having to repair my goddamn ship and base every tuesday

The fact that he goes to an alian world and SURVIVES when everyone else had succumbed to the sickness is fucking cool as hell. And that he was only able to by listening to the logs and messages from the people before is also like. GODDAMN that's sad as shit. That the only people who have been in ur situation are fucking DEAD is horrifying

Also I've got a lot of hcs for this guy based on the fact that I think he's an engineer. Idk im thinking that he originally had big dreams in engineering different sick as hell ships, before he was put on as repair staff

ive figured out how to describe my favorite type of character and it is the ones with a personality that can best be described with one of those cat pictures thats just a kitten after drinking milk whos sopping wet and lost in the sauce

just rewatched The Martian (2015) and that shit was as good as I remember it and since I need to tie everything into my hyperfixations I think Mark Watney and Ryley Robinson have the same/similar personality and Ryley definitely thinks "hey its kinda like that movie" at least once

3/23/25 Update: 1 1/2 pages into the book and yeah. Yeah they totally have the same personality. Unintentionally wrote Ryley like Mark Watney in my fic. It's great.
