i feel as if the atla fandom argues about a lot of meaningless shit but one of the biggest (and MOST inane) points of contention to me is that....katara didn't get a statue in lok. like. i could go on about how katara's presence in lok was way more meaningful than anyone else in the gaang appearing and how she was a steady solid presence for korra who had far more of an impact than just a quick punchy fight scene and was actually compassionate and skilled and her political presence sets SO much of legend of korra's worldbuilding up and how the fandom is really notorious for reducing katara to a poor helpless victim as much as possible because she had a complex and significant and emotional character arc that didn't always have the most "classic" #girlboss plot points but the truth is like. its a statue? its a fucking statue??? a fucking hunk of rock im sorry??? i could not care less about a piece of rock over a character's actual presence?

You people have no media literacy and chose to act like itâs the show creatorâs fault youâre so dumb.
I shouldnât even have to say this, but Aang never used Katara as a fan against his grief. What does the Guru say:
âYou have indeed felt a great loss. But love is a form of energy, and it swirls all around us. The Air Nomads' love for you has not left this world. It is still inside of your heart, and is reborn in the form of new loveâ.
Heâs basically saying even though Aang lost his whole nation, his love for them not only remains but he can also feel love again, for more loved ones, Katara.Â
Katara herself even tells Aang that despite losing almost everyone he knew and loved, her and Sokka care about him and are his loved ones now:Â
âAang! I know you're upset and I know how hard it is to lose the people you love. I went through the same thing when I lost my mom. Monk Gyatso and the other airbenders may be gone, but you still have a family. Sokka and I! We're your family now!â
We got ourselves two beautiful moments where Katara comforts her grieving friend due to suffering a similar loss, assuring him heâs not alone, and said friend realizing that love is infinite and even if you loved ones you care about, love can be found in more loved ones. And these bitter Anti-Aang freaks try to twist this into something âselfishâ, âunhealthyâ and âtoxicâ. Because youâre still coping and seething over Katara not making out with Zuko in the finale like you wanted back in the seventh grade.Â
Atla girlies... the women you are
idk what au this is but i love kyoshi warrior zuko
Here I am, pushing the Jian Li (Akai Kotou! Zuko) = Jinshi (The Apothecary Diaries) agenda.
ah yes i'm still reading nonsense in the atla tags
calling mai a âtoxicâ and âbadâ girlfriend and aang "abusive/misogynist" but gushing over zuko tying katara to a tree and bargaining her dead mothers necklace.
interesting.
Fiction really did peak with Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 3 Episode 5 'The Beach,' Didn't it?
excited!
The wait is finally over
âLOK just reduced Katara to a healerâ is such a tired take because it simply doesnât, the fans do.
Katara is 80+ years old, sheâs not going to be the frontlines of every battle anymore, and the fact she still uses her healing abilities to help those in need is nothing to scoff at because âwell thatâs what girl waterbenders are expected to do!â
Which yes, Master Pakku does make sexist comments about how the âhealing huts are where women belongâ, but that doesnât mean no women is allowed to pursue healing in the name of feminism, itâs about choice. Katara didnât chose to learn healing back then, but chose to in LOK.
And furthermore, I feel like this plays into how people buy too much into âshow donât tellâ where if it happens off scene it âdoesnt countâ which takes away from all her accomplishments that arenât explicitly âi just took down 50 bad guys single-handedlyâ.
Like itâs stated, in the show, that Katara made bloodbending illegal, which at the very least implies some that she held some political power.
I just think itâs silly how people take one episode of Katara, as a teenager whoâs actively fighting a war, saying she doesnât want to be a healer, because of said war, when sheâs being pushed into that role by a man and think it applies to 80 year old Katara whoâs doing that role of her own volition
People really try and say Katara is Izumiâs mom like honey?? That baby looks nothing like Katara??? Someone got Zuko pregnant and I know for a fact it wasnât Katara
They don't necessarily say Katara is the mom, but they try to go "Oh, Maiko broke up in the comics, so Mai can't possibly be the mom" even though Izumi literally has the same face.
It's a blatant attempt at downplaying the fact that Zuko chose Mai over Katara or whoever they ship him with.
And let me be clear, I don't mind people just using the character of Izumi, or at least the name, in fics and making her the child of Zuko with some other woman, I do that too. The problem is the blatant denial of reality.
She's a Maiko baby. Plain and simple.
Reblog if she is completely innocent and itâs probably all Avatar Wanâs fault of something
